Reign & Ruin #1

Lawless Kingdom

Rate this book
When something is forbidden, it becomes maddeningly tempting.

Judas Barron, for example. Wicked blue blood and heir to a severely twisted cutthroat society.
Everyone knew who he was and what crew he ran with—a clandestine group of filthy rich kids surrounded by ominous secrets. Secrets that were rumored to be dark, dirty, and stained with blood.

It was never my intention to get tangled up with them, but Judas and I had a secret too, one he was determined to make sure I took with me to my grave, which meant keeping me by his side.

Now forced to be part of a savage coterie, I start to see his world through a new pair of eyes. It isn’t long before temptation becomes something dangerous and wild, breeding the sickest kind of infatuation.

And those secrets Judas keeps?
They’re about to tear my life apart.

Sociopathic Mafia progeny!

I really enjoyed the story despite the fact that it is a bit difficult to believe. These eighteen year olds are from he most prominent and connected families and these just happen to be Mafia families so the kids have been brought up in the life and have never been sheltered from the business that they will eventually inherit.

Suffice it to say, they act in their own lives much like their parents act in their business lives. They are used to torture, murder and are desensitized to it all. They also know how to get rid of bodies and get their way in just about any situation. The de facto leader is Judas Barron and Judas has decided he wants Rhiannon Clermont.

Rhiannon goes to public school unlike her best friend Audrey, her boyfriend Dax and the rich kids that attend Pesadilla Prep. However suddenly right before her senior year begins, her parents surprise her by telling her she was accepted at Pesadilla Prep.

The story is good, and very much like it sounds. As crazy as it seems, it is a mafia based romance played out in a high school setting. Judas wants Rhiannon but also hates her for some reason that is unknown to the reader. Rhiannon is fighting Judas despite being wildly attracted to him even though she was about to break up with Dax before he ghosted her. Though Judas is much to overbearing and controlling for any woman not to fight him.

There are also a bunch of secrets within Rhiannon’s family. She doesn’t look like her parents at all. She has olive skin and dark hair and they are very white. Also they are keeping secrets about why they were pushing Dax on her and why they hate Judas. I’m excited to see what happens in the next book.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

FULL RTC IN THE MORNING

This author has become a fast one click author for me, she's known for her unexpected twists and turns but also those brutal cliffy's we seem to get thrown over time and time again, this book was no different. It wasn't as dark as I'm used to by her but you can feel it escuating in the background building up chapter by chapter.

Always giving me unique reads each and every time.

I dislike teenage high school drama. I mildly tolerate mafia books. This book is a combination of both so you can best believe I hated it.

The story is about a girl that had sex with a stranger, now that stranger is almost obsessive in his pursuit of her, he doesn't listen to no, he really doesn't listen to NO when the she tries to stop his antics, when he does what ever it is he wants to do , the author shows us that she likes it because she gets wet. It doesn't matter if she spurts like a fountain when they are playing their kinky games, I expect him to obey and listen to her wants instead of doing what ever he wants.

So this guy is always in her life, he kidnaps her boyfriend and tortures him. The book ends with her helping to kill her boyfriend after Jude, her stalker, tells her that her boyfriend is some sort of trafficker and that her parents are in on it. She leaves the basement as they kill her boyfriend. Afterwards they have sex.

Now bear with me here, Jude has stalked her and has been rude to the point of being misogynistic and yet she believes what he says especially after finding out that he had kidnapped ,tortured and killed her boyfriend, she still there comfortably waiting. I don't care what kind of magic dick he has but this heroine was just plain stupid.

"Even toxic things can be beautiful."

Darn!!! I wasn't expecting for this book to end in a sort of cliffy!!!
Darn!!! And now, I'm burning inside to find out how this story will end up after all...
This was a dark fucked up story!!! Nothing unusual for Natalie Bennett i will add!!!
It started a little bit crazy with that prologue and then it proceed like a normal bully romance story, until ... it wasn't!!! Nothing romanting in here!!! None!!!
This story was intense, dark, wild, immoral.... It was fucking with your head and morality, but still... It was so intoxicating!!! I need more... and soon!!!!

"Everything happens for a reason, right? Even things that fuck with your head and your heart."

Well, Rhiannon is a normal girl with normal activities... Or isn't she???
Her first time proved us that she had a very dark side...
And then the royalty of the town has setting his eyes upon her and her world is starting to change...

,i>"Judas hadn't come into my life to save me. He was the catalyst that would destroy me."

Judas Barron is not your normal guy....
He is a little bit too much of everything... He is very intense and possessive of Rhiannon and he is determined that even though he supposed to hate her, that she is going to be his and only his...
The truth is that Judas and his friends are very shady human beings and they are having too many dark secrets...

"Rhiannon Clermont was a goddamn siren. Too damn beautiful for my world of depravity and sin. Yet, at the same time, so fucking right for it.
All I wanted to do was consume her entirely, drag her into it and make sure she'd never find a way out."

So what is happening in this town and with these three royal families???
What secrets are hiding Judas and his friends???
How Rhiannon is fitting into his world???
And what are the secrets that are surrounding her own existence???
She and Judas are really in love with each other or they are just toxic as hell???
So what the hell is happening in here????

"We're not enemies and we're not friends. We're something that holds more meaning and can't be labeled."
"That doesn't make sense. What does that even mean?"
"It's not supposed to make sense. It's meant to be twisted, dirty, and chaotic. Like us."

As you can understand i have a shitload of questions in here and i can not wait to receive the answers...
Judas was a crazy, manipulative and not so right on his head man, but still he was a very appealing, even though complicated character....
But for once again, as in almost every other book that i have read by Natalie Bennett, i really don't know if the heroine should stay with him at the end...
The romance, if i can call it that way, is a little bit twisted...
Ughhhh!!! Of course, Rhiannon was a fantastic heroine and i loved that she was trying to fight off Judas, even though at the end, she was under his fucked up spell...
I only have an advice for her!!! Run, girl!!! Run far away from all these fucked up persons!!!! Bahaha...

"So, what? You're my hero now? My gallant white knight?"
"No. A hero is altruistic. They don't expect things in return."
"And you do?"
"Yeah... You. Every fucking part of you."
I'd being sarcastic. I had a feeling he wasn't.

*********************************************

"If only she knew there was nothing wrong with being a little monstrous. Every single one of us had a darkness within ourselves. Most feared it, some fought it with light, others ignored it, and people like me? We fucking thrived off it."

I loveee Natalie Bennett!!!
Now before I say more i remember reading this in a anthology savages.. with bunch of other dark romance authors. Now Natalie put this book on it's own and it's own series... it's still a high school "bully" romance.. with few changes.. the ending is changed.. and I'll be honest.. I liked the other ending better.. this one.. makes it seem like. More betrayal shall happen between the two.. :( that's why my rating went down.. from a 4 star.

Now i didnt find this one really a bully romance it was still dark as fuck.. like these high schoolers tortured 2 or few ppls.. like what!!
And Rhia and Jude... lord the chemistry is hawt the banter and sass between them.. plus they knew eachother 2 years ago when she kinda helped him kill someone and lost her vcard to him.
Now her and her Aubrey are in the sights of this crew.. and i love the crew still.. I'm just worried about what shall happen now.

Angst, slight ow/om drama, drama, no cheating, secondary chara, sexy times, was a virgin lost it to him 2 years ago no virgins now and he dated idk if he did

It wasn't pretty. It wasn't sweet. Nevertheless, it grew into something bigger than either of us expected. He could've had anyone. I could've been free. The moment he chose me, we became an endless, infinite us.

Oh, the sweet torture with this one! The story seemed like a slow burn, but he also claimed her so fast and definitively. I loved the bully in him, and I fell in love with that dark side of hers. I have a feeling she has yet to sursprise us. And I have a feeling it'll blow our minds.
Can't wait. This one was such a treat!

Lawless Kingdom was great. I loved the connection between Judas and Rhiannon! Their chemistry and banter were fire! I think the author did an amazing job leaving breadcrumbs throughout the story but I did find some parts to be disjointed. Secrets and revelations were randomly dropped and some weren't even fleshed out. This story was great don't get me wrong but it could have been amazing if it was longer and included more details. 4 stars! ~Ratula

What's there not to like when it comes to Natalie Bennett?! When I need something dark and edgy and hot at the same time I know I'm at the right place.
This...this short story, most likely some kind of the extended prologue, I would say, is the perfect introduction to what's waiting for us. And I'm sure whatever comes out of her head is a masterpiece I will devour. Don't hesitate to read this story!

This was just too awful for words. By 60%, there were literally no interactions between the MCs beyond Judas showing up everywhere Rhiannon was reminding her how hard he could make her cum and smirking arrogantly. These characters had zero personality and zero chemistry, and the whole story was just pointless and unoriginal.

Raise your hand if you’re familiar with this plot - ultra rich fuckboy whose family runs the town hooks up with average-in-every-way girl and becomes OTT obsessed with her for no reason. His best friend starts pursuing her best friend at the same time. H is completely perfect - honor student, gorgeous, filthy rich, sex god, only has eyes for the h even though he could have anyone, other students stare and whisper seeing them together because he never settles down. 🖐 Sound familiar? That’s because you’ve read it a million times before in one of the other 99% of YA books that are out there. WHERE IS THE SUBSTANCE?? Where is the depth and creativity? I get that YA is, well, YA… but am I the only one who still appreciates and enjoys well-done YA books? Clearly, considering authors are still able to write this garbage and enough people find it satisfying. I can see now that a well-written YA with compelling characters is basically the unicorn of romance novel world.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the cringeworthy scenes and dialogue.

“I planted my round ass on the toilet, well and prepared to go until someone else came in. They took the stall next to mine and released a soft sigh. Silence descended upon the bathroom and just as I began to wonder if we were each waiting on the other to go first, there was a zip, followed by a small tearing sound. A crinkle, the gentle ping of the sanitary bin. Each an arduously long interval apart. Why the hell were they moving so slow? My bladder was about to explode. I only needed to pee, but sometimes gas came out and I refused to have an audience for that. ‘Stop trying to be cute. Slap that pad on and get out!’ There was a snort and then loud laughter. ‘Riri?’ I tried to withhold my own laugh and lost the battle, relieving myself in the process.”

I think the author is the one who needs to stop trying to be cute. Because this scene is not it.

Excuse me while I go try to replace the brain cells that I’ve lost.

description

This was an introduction to Ms. Bennett's new series. Being as such we are left with a bunch of unanswered questions and the promise that things are about to get a whole lot more "Bennettish." If you are not familiar with this author's work that means nothing, but to those who are not, who know exactly what that means and I cannot wait.

Meet the kids of Pesadilla Prep who are unlike any kids you likely went to school with. The Knights, Rooks and Barron's run things and make the rules. Their punishment for not abiding by said rules can get a little bloody. Judas is the affluent, stone-cold, leader of this group and has his sights set on Rhiannon Clermont.

Rhiannon hadn't been part of this click or even the school until her senior year. For reasons unknown she finds herself in a place she doesn't belong, with people, she doesn't really care for and on a path that is murky at best. She is a strong character and doesn't take crap from anyone. She has lived her life in blissful ignorance and things are about to crumble.

There is still mystery surrounding her past and where she finds herself. There is this intense attraction between her and Judas. She likes to push him away and he likes to yank her back in. Where they go from here is anyone's guess. There are also other characters that will likely come out and play as the series continues. This was a dark and erotic story and not for high schoolers, but it was actually a bit mild compared to the things that this author creates. I am interested as to where they are going and what is to become of little nuggets of information left along the way. I am thoroughly intrigued by this new world and I feel like I am prepared for where this is going.

Not romance

Not sure why I bothered to finish this. It was so not romance. Not even a good storyline. None of the characters make sense, the premise is she sleeps with a guy she doesn't know with him covered in blood. Helps him bury a body at 16 and goes on her merry way? It ends on a cliffhanger,
won't bother reading the next book.

Why did I read this when the second book isn’t out 😆 why do I never check before I start a book.
I am obsessed.
What a twisted brilliant book. From the first page of the prologue I was like what am I reading. I had no clue. This book had been on my kindle a little while now and I’ve always seen great reviews of Natalie Bennett books so I thought I would start with this one.

This is one hell of a read. Rhiannon and Judas 😩😩 Judas he is everything literally everything.!! If you haven’t read it yet go check it out. You won't regret it.

It is kind of a high school bully romance. Judas and rhiannon meet under very strange circumstances. Okay that's putting it lightly. It's bloody and twist. 3 years later, Rhiannon ends up at a party looking for her boyfriend when she sees Judas at the party. There's a pull between them. She doesn't understand why.
This book is full of secrets and lies. You find nothing out lol. It's great, it's pissed me off but it's fine I cant wait till the next book.

I have to mention how hot this book is. Judas is everything. It's not even being sexual it's the way he talks, it the way he says things and how he comes across. He writtenten so well.

This is really a book on a Lawless kingdom.

One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Natalie Bennett books. I was first introduced to Lawless in the anthology it was originally featured in. I fell in love with Natalie Bennett’s writing and her mind and instantly sought her out looking for more to this book. I was sad to find there wasn’t any more to Lawless but found an amazing author I’ve become obsessed with. I owe it all to Lawless! Now it’s been redone and becoming its own series and I can’t even contain my excitement or put into words how it makes me feel! I will ALWAYS have a special attachment to this book, and to see it go on is EVERYTHING. Rhia and Judas are my kind of toxic 😈🔥 I don’t know what it is about toxic relationships but man, give me Calista and Romero or Rhia and Judas and I would never need another book relationship again! They’re intense and BOTH spitfires in their own right. It’s always amazing when the man is a possessive asshole but there’s nothing better than a crazy or a bad ass female who’s riding opposite him 🔥 Rhia is feisty and confident and even though Judas may be controlling as shit, she still gives him the fire 🔥 I can’t wait to see what’s in store with her family and the secrets they hold, I’m going to be on pins and needles for book 2!

“meant to be twisted, dirty, and chaotic. Like us.”
Loved this first book in this new series by Natalie Bennett.
Rhiannon believes she is living as a normal 18 year old until she is thrust into Judas Barrons world.
“We were a sick, savage youth. The offspring of modernized and clandestine ‘crime’ families.”
So many secrets surrounding her family and his intentions with her.
Is she a mere chess piece in this dark and dangerous life?

Alphaholes, feisty heroine and great side characters all add to this dark and twisty story that is filled with secrets.
“Even toxic things can be beautiful.”

Can’t wait for the next.

Gah I so want more. Every time I read one of this authors stories I’m greedy and want more. I just can’t help it. This author has a way with words that hooks me from start to finish. Lawless Kingdom is book one in the Reign & Ruin series. We get introduced to Rhiannon and Judas. Although they are at high school it’s not a story for everyone. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more of this series.

4/5 Loved It

Fell in love with Judas and Rhiannon. He is brutal, never touch what is his and not use to being told no. Rhiannon has no problem telling him no and can hold her own with him and others. Had so much with them and their fun banter.

Dark, gritty and this is just a teaser of what is to come

I'm not even writing a review. I got to about page 87 and that was with skimming. I was so bored. Which is crazy because the prologue was them having hot sex. After that moment..... just nothing. I didn't even to get to any more sex parts. I might try again later and see if they ever have sex again but for now it's a pass.

Why am I still giving it 2 stars?? Because I've had a lot of 1 stars where I've literally wanted to murder the book itself for being so bad. This one didn't make me commit homicide so it's def higher than a 1.

I had received an ARC in exchange for a review for Lawless Kingdom 👑 by Natalie Bennett.

Cruel. Brutal. Vicious. Lawless. Merciless.

This book definitely lives up to those above, when I received this arc I didn’t know what to expect. I did know that it was going to be a bully romance with the new girl in town.

Natalie put her own twist to the whole bully romance, she sprinkled her typical darkness into this book and created some pretty epic characters. Especially the Bully and his Victim.

I loved the twists and turns and the way this book was developing. Their was murder, lies and deceit and secrets being exposed.

Things are not always what they seem, the hero has had his sights set on her for a while now. It was never Rhiannon intention to get tangled with Judas but due to a secret they both shared, a secret that is rumoured to be dark, dirty and stained in blood.
He is set on ruining and breaking her but being the one that puts her back together again in his own way of course.

Not only do they share that secret but Judas has other secrets that could tear Rhiannon’s life apart. When these secrets start to unravel, Rhiannon begins to question her life.

This was definitely a book that had dark themes but I wouldn’t really say it’s Dark. It’s steamy and filled with hotness that you want to get your hands on. Although I can sense the darkness is brewing and will be an dark explosion in the next instalment.

You will be intrigued with the storyline and even the secondary characters that are involved. I look forward to more from this author in this world.

Overall, I liked this book! Do I feel like things were rushed and the cliffhanger a little underwhelming? yes.

Will I continue to read? Absolutely haha

Judas is your typically bad ass high school popular/ feared heir. I like that he is extremely mature for his age and also is Italian mafia I think.. hoping book 2 dives deeper into this.

Rhiannon started off strong but her character gave in too quickly for me, especially seeing as this was supposed to be bully romance / enemies to lovers buttttt there isn’t much of that. You can assume a lot about who she is or what she is so I’m definitely interested to see how she develops throughout the series.

Dark prequel for a new twisted series MF

I love the start of this. We have been warned it will get much darker. I, for one, can hardly wait. Totally ready for it. Bring all the darkness. Just bring it...and I will love it. That's my happy place. Seriously bring it all. I have no triggers and Natalie Bennett has a knack for writing stories that are irresistible to me.

Great start for what seems to be a very exciting new series. Love the characters and now I have so many questions!

Mind = BLOWN!

Lawless Kingdom stole my soul from the first freaking page! I was seriously iffy about this book. Just because I didn't think I'd truly like it. I mean I've followed Natalie Bennett for a while and wanted to read her stuff forever, but I never got around to it. Let me tell you something.. that was a HUGE mistake! This book was absolutely phenomenal! Totally different what what I normally read. It so dark and twisted and just AHHHH! I'm a horror movie freak so I should've known I'd be into this sorta book. Bennett has opened up a whole new world to me and I'm so excited to really dive in! The story is perfect! It no joke pulls you in and has you like "wtf" and "omg" so many times! The characters are the best! Every single character fits perfectly into this delicious story. This book was short and could easily be read in one sitting because it's so short, but you'll read it in one sitting because it's that good! Don't be like me and wait to read this book.. read it now and thank me later! 5/5 stars!!

My first Natalie Bennett book and I'm hooked. The blurb gave me a taste of something dark and dangerous and I'm happy I had the chance to read this story because it was a real treat.

I love gritty romance and add in the mafia aspect and I was glued to the pages. Judas and Rhiannon both have a dark side. She may seem the typical high school girl but she's far from it. I loved the mystery surrounding her family. And Judas has a lot of secrets and his broody and intense personality are scary sometimes. He seems to hate Rhiannon for some reason but at the same time, he is utterly possessive of her. She's a fierce girl and fights him every chance she has but, in the end, she can't deny the attraction between them. Their relationship is borderline twisted.

The whole story is cloaked in mystery, with twists at every corner, and there's still much more to unravel. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the 1st on a new series and what a fantastic introduction this is! Judas is extremely possessive with Rhiannon but appears to hate her as well. No spoilers: this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is dark, intense, raw, gritty, twisted and with secrets, which all lead to an all-consuming and riveting page turner. I cannot wait to read #2 in this fascinating series. Be aware that there may be triggers for some readers!

Red went searching for the big bad wolf and soon she found him covered in blood.
A lump of twisted meat and broken bones at his feet.
Now would be the time to make your retreat.
Or will you stay and help him bury the pry?
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
Not red and her blood red hood!
The wolf with the moon in his eyes,
does he also have a mouth full of lies?
