Annabelle Shoemaker was out picking berries at her home in Ireland when she is accidentally transported to New York City. Forced to make her own way in the world without the help of her family, she sets out in the family trade of shoemaking. The only problem is, she doesn't know how and isn't particularly good at it. With the help of her friend Emily, the daughter of an immigrant shoemaker, the two find out together that there is magic both in friendship and in doing the things you love. Join Anabelle on her journey of discovery in finding out how her leprechaun magic works.

About the author

Ben Wolfe is an American writer of Slovenian-Polish descent. He is one of six children, has one daughter, and divorced in 2012. Ben attended a federal service academy and served as an engineering cadet during the first Persian Gulf War. He studied creative writing under the American novelist, John Dufresne and obtained an MBA in Global Management in 2003. Ben has traveled extensively and has been to twenty-five countries on four continents, and traveled through thirty-five states in the US.

Ben is an avid reader and a prolific writer but also considers himself an activist and advocate for child refugees of war. Ben Wolfe is a pen name. He has written as a photojournalist in Chicago for Streetwise Chicago magazine and prefers to use his real name when writing as a journalist and uses Ben Wolfe when writing fiction. He also does screenwriting under the name Anton Skolezar.

Cute fairy tale about a girl who makes shoes. The message is an intro in woman's emancipation. Girls are not here only to make pies. They can work like boys and earn money. The end comes little quick. I would like to know how she spent her gold.

A sweet book about a girl who makes shoes. The story is interesting and the girl is lovely. There is humor, serious moments and lots of food for thought. I recommend it to kids of all ages!

This is a cute story with fun illustrations that children of all ages will love. It's a take on a few of the fables of old but updated a bit. I think the tale will be a cherished addition to a child's library. Children will love the illustrations that add so much to an already clever story.

A cute fairy tale about one amazing girl in one amazing world! Very creative, full of imagination and lots of great illustrations! Annabelle is one fearless, independent little girl with talents and will do prove herself. The writing is perfect for kids and it is in a way inspirational.

🥾Reading this book was like being a pair of shoes that nobody wants to buy until one girl does her best to make this pair of shoes adorable and competitive to be bought.

🥾The Plot:  Amazing fable about Leprechaun girl Annabelle, who decides to prove that you can do brilliantly what you love, despite the fact you are born for another purpose and destined for another job. Living in Ireland in a family of Shoemakers little Annabelle accidentally gets trapped into a man’s suitcase and finds herself in New York, where she is about to prove that baking delicious pies isn’t for her, she is fated to become great in something else.

🥾The Writing Style: I read other books by this writer in the fantasy genre. Without any hesitation, I can say that this writer is incredibly talented as he managed to create an adorable fairytale that grabbed my son’s attention from the first pages. Quick-paced, easy and enjoyable writing style with lots of humorous, motivational, educational and wise moments.

🥾The Characters: The characters aren’t numerous. All of them are perfectly described for kids. The captivating plot is brilliantly accompanied by marvelous illustrations by George Jung.

👦🏽P.S. I was reading it with my 5 y.o. son and he enjoyed reading it. He was curiously peering at a pair of shoes that were not good, asking me whether it is possible to wear shoes of different sizes. I just rephrased his words at the beginning of the review. He said something like: ‘If I were such a pair of shoes, I should be taken to a cobbler to be improved”.
