I teach at the police academy and have done training scenarios with SWAT. The cord that binds us is the pursuit of justice and protecting the innocent. Being an advocate for others came as a result of one incident that rocked my world. As a teen, I drove to Hollywood long before sunrise. After becoming hopelessly lost, I parked near a driveway in a gated community to read a map. Arriving home later that night, I spotted that driveway on the news. It was Sharon Tate’s home. I’d been there just before the bodies were discovered.
Today, writing thrillers gives us all a safe way to unravel why some are violent, to honor the brave, and to wonder what you or I would do in the shoes of a hero.

“Kill Notice” is a thrilling novel by Marta Sprout. This is the story of Kate Bowers, a determined Washington DC homicide detective who finds herself the target of a madman and possible up-and-coming serial killer.
Kate, a former Army special operations soldier turned homicide detective, is a determined, self-reliant woman who demands your respect from the very first chapter. She finds herself as the person of interest to a crazed killer, a killer who chooses to alert her to his next murder by taping a single button to her front door. Armed with that single clue, Detective Bowers is unable to stop him before he kills.
Once his victim is found, Detective Bowers and her team must analyze every detail to figure out who is committing these heinous murders. The madman terrorizes Kate every chance he gets in the process. Knowing this case is growing more dangerous by the minute, Kate enlists the help of her former lover, FBI agent Riggs. Together they begin to look at their fellow officers, agents, and forensic specialists with suspicion. The killer is too neat, too knowledgeable. He has to have a police background.
Being a homicide detective is a tough enough business without having to watch your back and wonder whether or not you can trust your fellow officers. Add to this already stressful situation, the fact that she is the sole relative of her very ill uncle, in love with an FBI agent even though she’s not quite ready to commit, and the only voice of reason to her flighty friend Berti, and you have a woman with every reason to give up. I found her strength and drive admirable and it is an intriguing journey following her as she works to solve the case.
Ah, so many murder mysteries, so little time. Yes this genre is rather large, but I found this book to be interesting and refreshing. It held my attention throughout and was easy to read and understand. I loved the characters. I had several favorites. Bobby, the young drug dealer who is on the street to provide for his grandmother younger brother, the mysterious man in black, who is everywhere, but seemingly unable to be caught. Berti, the friend who is a good-hearted person with the dangerous habit of falling in love with the wrong men.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I loved it. A really good story and great characters. I didn't want to put it down. Bowers is a detective with the metro PD in Washington DC. There is what appears to be a serial killer on the loose. Whenever he gets ready to kill again, he leaves a button somewhere that Bowers will find it. One time he left it on her apartment door, he seems to know a lot about her. The killer is smart and careful, he also knows the workings of the police department. He could be a former cop or forensics specialist. Special Agent Riggs is a close friend of Bower's so the FBI gets involved. There are no suspects until close to the end of the story. As a reader of mysteries, you can get a gut feeling of who it is about halfway through. The end is a roller coaster ride. It is a wonderful book. I look forward to reading more of the series.

Quite good. Good story. Good characters. Reminded me a lot of Tom Clancy where law enforcement (local and federal) are the good guys. Her protagonist has a military background and, like Clancy, was a good guy (girl? woman?).
You sort of knew who the antagonist was from a ways off (80+% of the way through the book) but that was still satisfying. The guy from Major Crimes was a "red herring" and sort of fell out of the plot after serving his purpose.
The end of the book was tied up nicely with Jayzee, Bobby, and his family. Even Pappa G came out of it a bit changed. I like happy endings.
If only Kate could've had a happier ending. However, this will lead into the sequel.

Amazing thriller! I loved the twist and turns that kept me guessing as to who the killer would turn out to be. I didn't want to stop reading to go do other things but I found myself going right back to continue this suspenseful ride. I was rooting for so many characters and hoped they would not be harmed. I am excited that there is more story to tell for Bowers and Riggs. I would definitely recommend this book and I would just say to get ready for the ride!

Liked the book, didnt find it slow, but has few issues ; hopefully second book irons out the issues.
1. Why couldnt they show bobby, the photos of their officers or show him the videos of funeral etc to identify the killer, it would have been easy.
2. I know killer has good height, but trying to describe every other male in the story as good height individual felt lazy. Like the waiter is good height, so and so officer is good height. We have enough red herrings as it is.

Loved this I wasn't expecting to. This book got bumped up the pile due to its large, awkard shape, and I wanted it off my shelf 🤣. However, the writing style was great, the book was fasted pace and right up my street! So much so, I brought Marta's second book 📖

Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read! The characters rang true and the tension was gripping.
