Praise for Bryan Cassiday's Thriller Bolt

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A private eye is hired to find a member of a Mexican Cartel. The guy was supposed to launder some money in Vegas, and give it to a a bag man, but loses it all gambling. The Cartel wants that money back. There's a plot to overthrow the President of the United States, a soap opera over at Cartel headquarters, and a whole lot of spy-jinks besides.

Somewhat confusing, but readable.

I won a copy of “ Murder LLC” by Bryan Cassiday from Goodreads to read and review.
“Murder LCC” is a murder mystery that is as thin as a tortilla before it is filled. When the filling is added, it is comprised of familiar ideas, character-types and themes. The author, Bryan Cassiday is obviously very familiar with such TV shows as “Better Call Saul”, “ Breaking Bad” and “The Sopranos”., because there is a lot that reminds the reader of where he has seen it before.
Do you doubt my opinion? The megalomaniacal head of the drug cartel ( Breaking Bad) known herein as Don Gaetano is pictured as lounging around the pool at his palatial hacienda , dressed in in guyabera shirt and white linen slacks, ogling the bikini- clad teen babes who are sunning their nubile selves. ( See “ Better Call Saul.) “ His trusted advisor, Arturo Casa , has a son named -wait for it- Michael Corleone. The sixteen year old, a stone- killer recently returned from bombing a Catholic Church full of the townspeople of a rival carte and cutting off the head of one burning corpse to prove the job was done , is a worry . His father , Arturo, fears his beloved son might suffer from PTSD, and Michael Corleone Casa might need a therapist. Now there is an original meme( remember good old Tony Soprano?) . Another chapter features a poker game with Brody and his pals tight out of the “ Odd Couple”. This is completely out of context to the rest of the novel.
The plot summary in brief , which is not easy because the book is 125 chapters long, and full of characters ,is just to keep the bodies falling and the gore flowing. These are the plot memes : One: Damien, a low level cartel killer ,is sent to Vegas to launder $400k . He proceeds to lose the cash gambling. So Don Gaetano sends killers looking for him. Also looking for him is Brody, a Hollywood private eye who is hired by Damien’s sister, without telling Brody of the cartel connection.
Brody has his own problems, 1. He is an epileptic. This is one of the few original plot themes in the book. 2. He is also the son of a serial killer. 3. His girlfriend was murdered with a crossbow shot to the neck in front of him.
Second plot theme, is that the Deep State, along with the drug cartel is funding a plot to get rid of the US President who wants to close the border, restrict immigration and slam the lid on drug smuggling. That to be accomplished through the use of the 25th. Amendment regarding Presidential incapacity. The CIA and the FBI might be involved. What tv show is this from? Right out of the daily newsfeeds on Twitter.
Vegas is the location for most of the action for the novel. Wherever Brody goes, bodies fall . No one in the casinos seems to notice. The police are nowhere. For example, Brody is having a hamburger when an FBI man sits down at his table and begins to ask questions. But not for long as he is shot in the head. Another: A cartel hit man shoots a bum on the street without anyone ever noticing in a city filled with cameras and tourists. Another: Damien knifes his cartel contact/ killer , leaving the body behind In Mme. Tussaud’s wax museum and no one sees anything. In a city with surveillance cameras everywhere and security guards watching everyone, how likely is that?
Nevermind, action scenes are in every other of the 125 chapters. If you love violence, over the top violence, this book its for you. The Don casually, paternally , and with a cold smile orders his pre-teen assassins-in-training to bisect victims with a chain saw or turn them into human torches with a homemade flame thrower. The killing is bloodily abhorrent, but becomes boring ,even silly. The author keeps up the pace without ever bothering about characterization ( why bother when they are only going to disappear in a bloody mist). Is all ends in a massive shoot- out in Big Bear with bodies everywhere and the world saved for democracy.
By the end of the book , I wondered is the author’s intention was to write a parody on senseless violence. Probably some cable TV network will feature it. After all it has everything, sex, killings, a plot to overthrow the government, showgirls and a hero with a disability. How can it lose?
Recommendation: find something else to read. Anything.

I rarely give a book less than 5 stars. Unfortunately, I had to do that with this book. This is about the protagonist of the book chasing down a member of a drug cartel in Vegas. There are some humorous spots in the book and it is not totally unreadable, but I read and review LOTS of books and this one just wasn't anything special.

I am sure someone will love this book but, I feel like the writing could have been much more detailed and thought out. This story has the potential to be an amazing book; just not quite "there".

Thank you to author Bryan Cassiday for this FREE Kindle copy of Murder LLC. And thanks to Goodreads for hosting the opportunity.

Well done. Good story and characters. The story moves along at a nice clip. Humor is sprinkled in in good quantity. Tough to find decent neighbors these days. Editing is nearly complete in this riveting thriller due out in May 2020. A good read.

Not my cuppa tea

I won this on Goodreads. Plenty of murders. I felt this book could have been a great political thriller on the "Deep State. " or a great drug cartel "who done it." Mixing the two plot lines just didn't do it for me.

It is about of a LA PI tracking a missing person in Vegas. This leads to international intrigue and the President of the US is in danger.

It was a so-so read that I felt lacking something. It had the potential to me more engaging than what was given.

Picked this up for a beach read. Definitely think reading the first book first would have been useful but I was still caught up in the action of Brody's case.

Serious?

I am assuming that most of this book was written tongue-in-cheek. Way too much stuff going on to be a serious thriller. It was kind of a hoot.
