The title is misleading as it's weekend getaways all over the world. I'd look this over as primarily a travel book and secondarily as a book for weekend getaway ideas.
MY GRADE: B to B plus.

“The book you hold in your hands is entirely dedicated to the beauty and possibilities of the perfect weekend – 1,000 of them to be exact.”
What is your perfect weekend? Where do you get ideas on where to travel?
1000 Perfect Weekends is giving me lots of new ideas of places to travel. It’s a beautiful, large book (smallish coffee table book) that is a perfect conversation piece when you have people over. Stunning pictures show great vacation spots around the world. If you don’t have the means to travel worldwide, you can dream of it by exploring this book. You can also find locations closer to home by exploring the helpful and detailed index. The chapters are broken out into various interesting places to explore from beach escapes to camping spots, from family friendly vacations to food & wine, from historical explorations to wildlife adventures. Each chapter highlights interesting vacation ideas and includes the nearest airport hub to each location. It also includes a top ten lists for interesting items like beaches, golf courses, most-stop antiquing spots, music towns, television locations, food markets, places for romance, etc.
This is a very fun book to read, peruse, and just to flip through and talk about. It also gave me some life goals with a list of the top ten bookstores in the world. Number one is Shakespeare and Company in Paris, France. I also loved the top ten national parks. I have only been to one, the Grand Canyon, but I would love to see the rest around the world including the Krka National Park in Croatia. I have heard my friend Barb talk about the beauty of Croatia for years and its very well represented in this book.
I also had to see how Wisconsin was represented. Wisconsin has five locations in this book from the Great Wolf Lodge at the Dells to the Lumberjack World Championships. I was kind of confused that Racine was picked as one of the top beaches. Living on Lake Michigan in beautiful Kewaunee right by beautiful Door County, I felt left out. I always think of Racine as an industrial city I drive through, but now maybe I need to check out their beach . . . my birth state of Michigan had six locations including the beautiful Tahquamenon Falls, Isle Royale, and Sleeping Bear Dunes. I approve.
We are finally going on our delayed 2020 vacation to Washington DC next summer. Looking at the top ten Battlefields, number two is Yorktown in Virginia. We thought about this and extended our trip to stop by to visit. I’ve never been there before, and the kids are excited.
I have been enjoying this book for myself, but with Christmas just around the corner, this would make a great gift for anyone who likes to travel or likes to dream about traveling.
Overall, 1000 Perfect Weekends is a perfect book to explore great destinations around the world from the comfort of your own home.

The good thing about National Geographic's 1000 Perfect Weekends- Great Getaways Around the Globe is that you don't have to be a world traveler to enjoy this gem of a book.
It would take 19 years of weekends to visit every place highlighted in the book, an eye-opening fun fact. The book has nineteen chapters, dividing up the weekends for people who enjoy different types of mini-vacations.
There are the old standards- Beach Escapes, Mountain Retreats and National Parks among them- as well as unique ideas, like Small-Town Charmers, Enabled Adventures, and Pet-Friendly Vacations for those who like to include Fido in the family fun.
Each chapter has a Top Ten List, and there are many surprises there. Who would expect to find a beach in Oregon (Cannon Beach) as one of only two United States beaches on the list? The United States is well represented in Top Ten Golf Courses, but would anyone have thought to find that a course in Idaho (Coeur D'Alene Resort) would be there?
Some other interesting Top Ten Lists are the Best Flea Markets and Must-Stop Antiquing Spots for the shoppers, and Movie Locations and TV Locations for screen fans. (You can visit The Shining Hotel.) History buffs will enjoy the Battlefields, Religious Pilgrimages, and Historical Monuments Lists. It's fun to review the lists and say, "What about this?". (I did think there were a few too many New York City spots on the lists; they must have a good marketing department.)
You could make an itinerary that consists solely of UNESCO sites, like Valparaiso in Chile, Chan Chan in Peru, the Tomb of Kings in Cyprus, and Banff National Park in Canada. And who knew that Norway has an abundance of world-class chefs, or that there is a huge ex-pat enclave of US World War II veterans in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico?
It's enjoyable to peruse the book and find all the places you have been, or make a list of where you want to go when travel picks up again. I did get a thrill seeing my hometown area of the Finger Lakes region in New York State get an entire full-page write-up, as well as the Sarasota, Florida area where I spend a lot of time.
You will find hours of enjoyment in 1000 Perfect Weekends, looking at the beautiful photos and reading all about the amazing places on this planet. It would also make a wonderful holiday gift for the travelers (armchair travelers included) on your list. Just remember to order early this year.
Thanks to TLC Tours for putting me on this tour.

1,000 Perfect Weekends: Great Getaways Around the Globe is another addition in the National Geographic Society books to inspire and educate. This globetrotting book has something for anyone, no matter your sense of adventure.
This is certainly a book filled with ideas. My family and I love to take road trips, and we’re always looking for places to visit. Luckily, the United States has an almost unlimited number of varied places for all tastes and seasons. Finding those places, however, can certainly be a challenge.
1,000 Perfect Weekends: Great Getaways Around the Globe is certainly choke full of ideas. While many of the places featured are out of reach (distance + budget), many others are well within it. This is a beautiful, expansive book, as well as an excellent conversation piece.
Divided into sections, such as beaches, mountains, nature parks, road trips, cities, historical, camping, food and wine, pet-friendly, and more certainly shows of a lot thought was put into building it. However, even though the synopsis states all 50 US states are represented, I couldn’t find Delaware.
Looking through this book is a lot of fun, marking spot where we’ve already been, want to go, and wish to go. Each chapter has a “top ten” list (movie locations, battlefields, historical), some are obvious, however some are surprising. To my dismay I realized that I was in zero of the top 10 bookstores (pg. 351) mentioned.
I really enjoyed looking through this book, and getting ideas for future trips. While I know I’m not going to all of them (there’s no way in hell my wife will stay in the hotel where The Shining was filmed), the ideas are certainly flowing.

National Geographic’s 1000 Perfect Weekends
Pub Date: October 19, 2021
1000 Perfect Weekends is meant for short trips but really this isn’t just inspiring for weekends, but longer trips benefit as well! I’d definitely use this to check out some must-sees on my trips. The photography captures perfectly what a mini vacation would entail. They even include Assateague Island – this is where I was proposed to! It has a list of unique bookstores in different countries. It was so much fun perusing through and finding all the places I’ve been & want to go. It highlights the best quick vacations across the globe covering more than 40 countries with 1000 weekend escapes. The book is divided by theme and interest including country weekends, city escapes, nature parks, mountains retreats, small town charmers, pet-friendly vacations & the list goes on.
This is a fantastic gift for those who always have the travel bug & really perfect for your coffee table. Personally I love coffee table books with tons of beautiful photos especially of places around our globe.

1000 Perfect Weekends will inspire you to travel to over 1,000 dreamy locations.
The book is conveniently organized by type of getaway: beach escapes, national parks, road trips and many more. My favorite section of the book was the section called Historical Explorations. They included varied locations like Boston, London, and Cambodia. I was glad to see Tucson’s Desert Days was also listed as an option. I love that there are places both near and far to explore in this book!
This book is comprehensive at 700 pages and weighs in at almost 4 pounds. It is more in the style of a coffee table book; you won’t be slipping this baby in your backpack to take on a hike. It is meant to help you plan, dream, and savor the many beautiful locations around the world before setting off to explore.
Thank you to the publisher for a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own.

enjoyed the assortment of topics the photos and articles are filed under such as Small-Town charmers, Historical Explorations, Family-Friendly, even Pet-Friendly, Wildlife Adventures.
Lots of ideas for mini vacations when we get the opportunity to travel again (COVID lockdowns at this time are preventing that).

Wrongly assumed this would be a clickbait in print form. Lots of exciting and interesting ideas, broken down by helpful categories- traveling with pets, LGBTQ+ friendly destinations, consideration of physical limitations, etc. Full color images inspire and plant seeds, and can’t help but love a book that highlights Vermont at least 5 times throughout. Would recommend

There is a chapter for everyone in this travel guide. Incredibly impressed by their thoroughness. There's even a chapter for "Enabled Adventures" which in all the many many travel books I have read I have never seen someone highlight that. There are several repeats but that just shows you could build a longer holiday around those places. Great work Nat Geo!
