If you want to discover the captivating history of the Cultural Revolution, then keep reading...Free History BONUS Inside! The Cultural Revolution, known in full as the “Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution,” was launched by Mao Zedong, the chairman of the Communist Party of China, as a means of quashing capitalism in China. He wanted to ensure that the desire for a communist government would remain strong in the country long after his death. Like other previous leaders who attempted to continue to rule after their death, his attempt did not work out quite the way he had planned. Over the course of a decade, from the summer of 1966 to 1976, Mao Zedong implemented a number of changes that have led him to be known as one of the most brutal tyrants of the modern age. It is estimated that between 500,000 to two million Chinese people, although numbers can go as high as twenty million, died as a direct result of Zedong’s Cultural Revolution. It also resulted in millions of people being imprisoned, displaced, and tortured in an attempt to cement Mao Zedong’s reputation as the leader of the communist world. In The Cultural A Captivating Guide to a Decade-Long Upheaval in China Unleashed by Mao Zedong to Preserve Chinese Communism, you will discover topics such asMao Zedong’s Early Life, Rise to Power, and the Government Upheaval That Changed China during the First Half of the 20th CenturyThe Suspicion Behind the United FaceThe Five-Year Plan, the Great Leap Forward, and the Events Leading to the Cultural Revolutionfighting the Capitalism of the WestThe Introduction of RevolutionThe Red GuardsJuly 20th IncidentBorder Clashes with the Communist SovietsLin Biao – The Successor and OpponentHealth Issues and Slipping Grip on the RevolutionThe 10th Congress and the Shifting of PowerMass Killings in China and Devastation in Northern ChinaEnd of the Cultural RevolutionLasting EffectsAnd much, much more!So if you want to learn more about the Cultural Revolution, scroll up and click the "add to cart" button!
This book reminds me that, as an American, I am remiss in keeping up with other cultures. I lived through this appalling 10 years and had no idea these terrible things were going on -- because it was a 1/2 world away. By laying out the entire sequence (as this book does), the reader is shocked that so many people were starved or murdered, and the leaders got away with it.
Over the years, I've read about many countries trying to modernize and bring their country into the Industrial Revolution, or whatever. When the leaders try to do it in a short period of time, the results are often traumatic. Looking at the starving associated with the Great Leap Forward and the horrors for the poorest of the citizens during the Great Famine, it is obvious that Mao wasn't a leader with an understanding of what he was doing or compassion for his citizens. Mao was anti-intelligence and learning.
Learning about Mao's personal habits was a shock. Mao was undisciplined in taking care of his health and didn't consult with physicians about his venereal disease(s). The best fact in the book, however, was telling the average life expectancy in China (at the time) to be 44 years! This was while Mao was 70+ and trying to keep hold of his leadership role.
This is one of those books that I read and want to thump my head against the wall: How can so much be going on and we are oblivious to? Well, I guess that is why these books are so popular; they inform us, in one piece, about things that take years to unfold.
This history presents a concise summary of the events that led up to Mao's Cultural Revolution, the reason for the Revolution, the atrocities that took place during the Revolution, and the Revolution's aftermath.
It will enlighten those who are unfamiliar with the CCP and its role in the genocide of millions of Chinese citizens. For those familiar with the CCP's history, this book provides a useful review of the decades between 1960 and 1980. It also provides insight into Mao, including his early education, his flirtation with anarchism and the KMT, his belief in a unique strain of communism fitted to the Chinese peasantry, and his total disregard for human well-being and life in general while pursuing the flawed concept of a utopian Marxist state.
I was happily reading along when the anonymous author equated McCarthyism to the Cultural Revolution. S/he went through all the evils of the McCarthy and his ilk. There were people blacklisted, some jailed....none were shot or tortured; frequent occurrences during the Cultural Revolution. If you check it was more than a couple million. Now add that to the 50 millionth at starved to death during the Great Leap. I think the equivilancy is pretty stretched after we jailed more than a hundred, probably less.
Wow! I thought the rebellious looking youth group "The Red Guard" were so influencing to look at on Pinterest! Shows you how much I knew. This guy Mao Zedong completely destroyed a country he helped unite. He tried to become the next USSR but all he did was leave us a bunch of tragic events that need to be heard and talked about to prevent some propaganda pics hyping up a young man like me! Tell it, the Red Guard is bad! Don't beat your teachers!
A horrific read on the destruction of so many people's lives and the attempt to blot out a vibrant history, the Cultural Revolution is something that every deluded communist should read and understand that you are the next one on the chopping block. As per usual a solid read from Captivating History with plenty of paths to follow for more knowledge. Check it out.
