Cliff is intrigued by a geocache description about a murder site in posh Los Altos Hills dating back eighteen years. When the victim's granddaughter approaches Cliff and Maeva to find the killer, they accept. Soon they are drawn into the esoteric world of DNA and genealogy to try to track down "Cole Case," the killer. Chasing a murderer can be a dangerous business and this time is no exception, but Cliff can always find time to pick up a geocache or two.
I've read all the books in the series and have enjoyed every one of these. I had a hunch on the twist pretty early on which detracted a bit from the AHA moment one has. Still enjoyable with a splash of geocaching thrown in for added interest. Thanks for such an enjoyable series.
The story is about solving a 20-year old murder, a Cold Case, using DNA evidence. Cliff and his associate Maeva are hired by the grand-daughter of the victim to solve the case. The story brings us to various places in Northern California and Nevada.
It must have been inspired by the Golden State Killer case that was solved by DNA some years ago. The case is mentioned in the book. In the first part of the book I had trouble following and remembering all characters and names, but when you're searching for someone through DNA it's an inherent part of the story. Once the focus was on a small number of potential murders it became a page turner. I enjoyed the reading!
