Ellis.

I feel him.
Before I even lay eyes on him, I sense him.
The air in the room seems charged, my awareness of him heightened, but he is a stranger to me.
Unfamiliar, yet familiar.
Unknown, yet known.
And something inside me says, "Hello, I've been waiting for you."

Macsen.

I see him.
I've seen him a hundred times before and I know this will not be the last, but each time I do, I feel it.
That invisible tether.
I remember everything.
I remember him.
His eyes lock with mine and then move away too quickly.
I am nothing more than a stranger, another face in the crowd.
While he is my favourite hello, and my hardest goodbye.

USA Today Bestselling Author, ES Carter, lives in Cardiff, South Wales. The home of castles, dragons and folklore.
Her family joke that she was born with a book in her hand, and the urge to write stories soon followed.
At eleven, she won her school's literary prize. At ages fourteen to sixteen - her poetry phase after falling in love with Dylan Thomas and e.e. cummings - she had a few poems published, but life, love and family overtook her dreams, and she was in her thirties when she began the scary journey of self-publishing.
Her debut and internationally best-selling series, 'Love by Numbers', are a set of interconnected stand alone romances, all with varying themes of love. From second-chance to romantic comedy and M/M romance. These stories do not need to be read in order, in fact, she is often guilty of advising readers to start at the last book and work their way back through.
Contemporary romance is not the only genre she writes, her second series, 'The Red Order', is as dark and twisted as you can get, but there is beauty there too if you can open your eyes and look.
With many more stories bursting to be set free, she hopes you stay along for the ride.

“Some lights should not, and can never be dimmed.”

Favourite Hello. Hardest Goodbye. is a M/M stand alone love story by E.S. Carter. This is the story of two men, two hearts, that were searching for each other, yearning for each other, neither complete until they were united. I suggest going in to this book blind, letting it unfold before your eyes, and experiencing it one word at a time.

waterwynch house - Google Search

Macsen Evans is thirty six years old and is a self made millionaire. Intuition has gotten him where he is today. He trusts his instincts. That is how he knew he had to buy Lily Bay Manor in the small Welsh village of the same name. And that is how he knew that is where he needed to be. Where he would find him.

“Connection. Tether. Us. Always us.”

Ellis Probert is twenty eight years old and has lived in Lily Bay all his life. He is the owner and chef of Safe Harbour, a pub and restaurant. Ellis has been with many men, always for just one night. That’s all he can offer. There has always been something missing in him, he never knew exactly what it was. Until that day, when their eyes met, and he saw him.

“Have you found what you’re looking for?”
“I have.”
“Me too.”
“Tell me what you feel.”
“Everything.”

When Macsen comes into Ellis’s world, he can’t think of anything but him. He can’t concentrate on anything but him. They’re drawn together like magnets. Neither can resist the pull. But he can’t understand why. Why now? Why this man?

“Ellis and Macsen. Two men bound by more than this moment. Two halves of a whole. Bilateral symmetry. My beginning and my end.”

two men's hands entwined - Google Search

This is the story of two souls bound by a love so deep, so strong, that nothing can keep them apart. That no matter what, they will always find their way to each other.

“He was the nourishment that filled my starved soul. And I would love him every day, night, and minute that followed in the same way.”

E.S. Carter writes with such beauty. Her stories never fail to sweep me away. This one is truly unique and I’m not sure if my heart will ever be the same. This is a love story that I will never forget.

“I will always follow you.”

Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

After years of emptiness, Macsen Evans left everything he ever knew and escaped to the seaside town of Lily Bay. Now the proud owner of a decrepit manor, he was determined it would bring him what he had been looking for his whole life. Ellis Probert had no idea how the town newcomer would flip his life upside down for better or worse.

I went into this book completely blind and I believe that’s the best way to enjoy the journey Macsen and Ellis took. Right from the beginning, the book captured my attention with the locations. I always wanted to live in a cozy seaside town and I have an ongoing love affair with dilapidated buildings. This book was like coming home.

“I’ve never felt as powerless as I do when I’m with you.”

I’m nostalgic and the book subject matter is something that appeals to the sentiment. It’s an incredibly romantic yet equally tragic notion. It made my black shriveled heart all warm and fuzzy. I loved both of them but I was drawn to Macsen even before I understood what the story is about.

Favourite Hello. Hardest Goodbye. is a sweeping story of tethered love. It would appeal to readers looking for an evocative M/M Romance.

I trust E.S. Carter’s writing so much that I usually go into her books blind.
I didn’t need to read the blurb to know that Favourite Hello. Hardest Goodbye. would have been a good novel but, still, I was struck by its beauty.

Macsen and Ellis came from two opposite worlds, a businessman from the big city the first and the owner and chef of the local pub in the little town of Lily Bay the latter, but it took just a look at each other to understand they were perfect together. They were the missing pieces they were looking for in order to be happy and live their lives at the fullest.

This was a brilliant, powerful romance with a beautiful message. Even if I shed a bucket of tears and I felt my heart breaks more times than not, I can guarantee you it’s all worth it. Go get it right now and got carried away by Macs and Ellis magic journey.

Italiano:

Macsen Evans is a self-made entrepreneur and such success has given him the ability to fulfill a strong impulse to find what he needs. When he arrives in a Welsh seaside town, Macsen operates on instinct in search of the one person who completes him, a local named Ellis Probert. Though Ellis isn’t the type to believe in love at first site, Macsen challenges what Ellis feels and has known for some time. Together, they learn what most don’t believe is possible.

“So I’m supposed to trust that all this weirdness between us is meant to be?” “Is that so hard to do?”

Told in dual POV, the plot begins with vague references of how Macsen and Ellis share a deep connection. As more develops, the intensity builds which only further underscores the rightness of what they feel and how fleeting it can all be, as neither are willing to delay what they feel.

“The passion is familiar, the burn of pleasure creeping up my spine, a memory. We’ve come together like this so many times before, and each time feels like the first.”

The theme of this story is one that is steeped in a deeply romantic notion, but it doesn’t make their lives any easier or love less painless. By the end, Macsen and Ellis appealed equally to me, as they share in love and loss – just a bit differently. I admired Macsen’s ability to identify what is most important and his resolve. As for Ellis, I understood his skepticism but liked how he evolved and absorbed some of Mac’s easy energy.

Favourite Hello Hardest Goodbye is contemporary MM romance with the theme of recapturing what is lost. This book would appeal to those who enjoy a story with heart and soul.

Do you believe in destiny?
Do you believe in the existence of that invisible red thread that binds us to our soul mate? To the other half of us who makes us complete ??
After reading this story you can't help but believe it, and you will feel the desire to find yours in order to live a love story like that of Macsen and Ellis.
A love capable of overcoming everything.

I won't tell you much about the story, because I would deprive you of the magic of discovering every little detail of this story for yourself.
Just know this:
- Macsen is a successful man who has always relied on his "instinct", and has never been wrong. His instincts lead him to Lily Bay.
He takes him to Ellis.
- Ellis is a self-made chef.
He's not the relationship type and has never really built an emotional connection with anyone, but he always missed something. He has no idea what, though, until he catches Macsen's eye.

INTENSE
Trivial word and widely used, but it is the only one that comes to mind to describe this book.
The connection between Macsen and Ellis is powerful, and destabilizing.

From the first word, history wraps you in its coils and it is impossible to get out of it.
The author manages to reproduce every emotion of the protagonists so well, that you can not help but feel them crawl under your skin and make them yours.

A kind of frenzy accompanied my reading:
I could not read fast enough, and at the same time I had the impression that there was not enough time and that everything was going too fast.
And in the end I understood the reason for those emotions ....

Ellis and Macsen break your heart, but they also give you hope in the power of love.

Forgive me if I was a bit cryptic but trust me when I tell you that "The most beautiful meeting. The most difficult goodbye" is one of the most beautiful MM I have read and is absolutely recommended !!

Exceptional book! This one tugged at my emotions and gave me all the feels. I love it when a book can choke me up, and it doesn't happen often. This one gave me sniffles (obviously it was allergies) and left an impression. I won't forget this one. It will stick with me for a long time.

“I’ve searched for you my whole life....I knew you were here on this side.”

Macsen Evans has a goal and he was bound to make it happen.  When life pulls him closer to a special person he stopped questioning it all and went with his feelings.  When he found him he had no doubt it was going to be hard to understand but everything is always worth it.

“I am a stranger to him.  But he feels it.  Connection.  Tether. Us. Always us.”

Ellis Robert was the owner of Safe Harbour restaurant; working his way up he had no idea what gift he was given when he meets Macsen.  He don’t know why he feels drawn to him but he was also afraid to find out.

“This man before me is like no other.  I’m drawn to everything about him, and I am undoubtedly setting myself up for a huge fall.”

I honestly went into this story blinded which was awesome because I had no idea what to expect.  The story starts very intriguing and I had so many questions I felt unable to stop reading until I get answers.  Literally didn’t stop for breaks until I got a spoiler of what was going on hahaha.  I loved it once I got my answers and the story just flowed perfectly!

Overall, Favourite Helo. Hardest Goodbye is a story about soulmates and true love.  I enjoyed it so much, readers who love mm stories will find this book appealing.

I adore this original and romantic story of a love that transcends.
Macsen has spent a lifetime searching for one thing, one person and when he arrives in the seaside village of Lily Bay he knows deep down that he has found it.

“When I open my eyes, they meet the smooth depths of his.
“Tell me what you feel.” A plea.
“Everything.”

Macs is willing to risk everything but he needs to make sure he doesn’t scare Ellis away with their powerful truth.

“I want to consume you.”
“Then do it.”
“I want to own you.”
“Do it.”
“Will it ever be enough? I want you so bad it hurts, Macs. How can that be right?”
“Because that’s how you know it’s real, Ell.”

FHHG is a beautiful, epic love story. Plenty of heat and swoon, but definitely be prepared with a box of tissues.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

The blurb for this book does not give anything away and I am trying to do the same, while still being able to steer readers in the right direction to decide if this is the book for them. Favourite Hello. Hardest Goodbye. is not a traditional romance, but it is an enduring love story. When a romance by definition needs a HEA/HFN, this is not precisely that, and while the ending can be seen as sad, it can also be seen as hopeful, at least from my reading viewpoint.

Macsen and Ellis are inevitable. That’s simply the way it is. When they meet, they have incredible chemistry, but it’s more. Everything is more. Macsen knew exactly what he was missing, that is his burden to carry, but Ellis just always felt an emptiness that he couldn’t explain. When Ellis sees Macsen, he knows deep down, but he has to make his head and heart fully remember.

I should have listened to my instinct (as used to do one of the characters in this book) and stayed the hell away from this book. Too insta, too melodramatic, too everything...
Clearly not the book for me.

I am probably not going to do this ridiculously powerful story justice with my review. I want to. I really do. I’ve been thinking on it for days. Taking notes. Looking back at all my highlights. It’s been a roller coaster for me and in all that time, I cannot form coherent thoughts to put on paper because there is so much. I knew when I read the synopsis that this book would be a lot. I was ready for it. I knew it would gut-punch me, but I was ready.

I wasn’t ready.

The journey/story of Ellis and Macsen is not even close to just a romance journey. To be honest, there is nothing just about anything in this story because everything is larger than the word just. Exponentially larger. Just as the love that they find within each other and for each other goes beyond love, so does this story. See, I told you, I don’t have words. I sound completely ridiculous.

The prose that E.S. Carter uses to convey this story is stunning. Her story telling skills are hypnotic. She is a wizard with her craft. She painted a picture I felt I was living. I was a prisoner to this story and their lives. I could not escape. I was addicted and every word fed my addiction and when it was done, I felt like I was floating.

This is an epic love story that touched my heart like no other has in an exceedingly long time. It is a love story we all aspire to. It is a love story worthy of the test of time. It is profoundly emotional in all the right ways.

I'm so absolutely gutted I read this, and so absolutely happy I read this.

Gutted because it is a truly sad story. These two men broke my heart, especially in the very beginning and the very end of the book. I cried in the end, even knowing that they would find each other again.

It was also a delight to see them find each other again, hang out and date and fall on love all over again. They were the perfect couple, so in love and in sync.
Macsen' love for Ellis, undying but regenerative, was beautiful to witness. And Ellis accepting that love for what it is, taking it in and making it bigger was the epitome of their timeless love.

I don't think I can add anything to the already glowing reviews for this book, but to me at least, the hype was worth it.

I also belive that some may find it as instalove, but I didn't feel that. They had a connection that spanned years and years. The author wanted to show that this connection was so potent that they felt each other even before they knew the other existed.

If you do end up picking this up, read the bomus epilogue on the author's website. It made the original ending a little more bearable.

Holy fricking moly. I am currently lost for words. I feel like I’ve happened upon the Holy Grail of love stories. I’m not really a lover of weepies, let’s be honest, I avoid them at all costs, but sometimes you happen upon a book, and even though you know you'll be reaching for the tissues (I had an inkling), you know you have no choice but to read it. Devour it even. Why? Because it was written by ES Carter, and no matter the genre, you know you’ll love it. Let me also say this, no one writes m/m romance like ES Carter, I just love her words, her stories, her characters, and her uniqueness. I was hooked from the very first page, drawn in by each word, each little snippet of information I could grasp about Macsen and Elliott. What a truly wonderful love story. Surpassing time, true love, destiny, fate, soulmates, it’s got everything. A love story to stand the test of time. I fricking loved it! I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.

This is the story of two men who were meant for one another, in any lifetime. How they come together in this story is unconventional to say the least. But despite the oddness of it all, it is clear to this reader that the connection, the insentient draw between them, is real.

Macsen Evans comes to Lily Bay based on a feeling. A unexplained draw to a place he's never visited, investing in a property he's never seen, all because of this feeling. And when he dines at Safe Harbour one night, he confirms his feelings were real. He's found his soulmate, Ellis Probert, again.

No, he doesn't know me. I am a stranger to him. But he feels it.
Connection. Tether. Us. Always us.

I don't want to spoil the experience of this story. I think it is pretty clear early on what the direction of the story will be, but you should discover it for yourself, because I don't think I can do it justice.

This is a beautiful story about the power of love and the connection that can't be broken, even through tragedy.

"Tell me what you feel." A plea.
"Everything."

Once I realized the direction of this story, I knew tears were inevitable. Fortunately, it wasn't an ugly cry, but I only speak for myself. This story draws you in, has you fall in love with the main characters, and want only the best for them. The message it leaves you with is poignant, one you need to reflect upon to fully grasp. And that's the beauty of this story. It may be heartbreaking at parts, but the author planted the seeds of hope. As this couple is meant to be, forever.

This story capped off an amazing month of reading for me, being one of three books that I'll be adding to my Best of 2020 list. With that said, this book is an obvious MUST READ!!

ES Carter has magic with words. She writes in this lyrical fashion that weaves around you and spins you somewhere else. And isn't that what we want our fiction to do? Provide us those few precious moments to escape.

The story allows the reader to peer into a moment of time between Mac and Ell. We share in their discovery and connection. To appreciate this meeting of the souls, you may need to step back for a moment and allow the words to seep in. Ms Carter doesn't just hand over the journey. She expects you to feel this voyage and appreciate the possibilities these two souls have.

As I read, I experienced a myriad of emotions ranging from joy to tears. Because that's what true love brings. All the joy of the moment along with the painful parts. Life isn't perfect. But couldn't we all wish for what Masen and Ellis have.

I seriously hate spoilers. And this book is magic and needs to be experienced. So rather than get into the story you get into how this love story made me feel.

Yes, love story fiction not romance. If you are eager to find beautiful magic, buy this book.

OH WOW! My ultimate read of the year by far, this author just brought a story to life, gave it life, then took it away to know it would be there another day.
I just have no words how this made me feel,my emotions, shot to bits,my heart, smashed to smithereens, my brain, can't function, i just don't have the words to do this story justice.

No one but no one writes story's like ES Carter, the way that these two soul mates found each other is just unique, her story telling, her words that she puts down on paper surpass anything I have read before.I just can't tell you how this book made me feel.I have lost my heart along with these two beautiful characters Mascen and Ellis

Mascen and Ellis have the most profound love story,if only one knew this to start with, never have I read a love story so intense that I held my breath because I didn't want to know the ending,i prayed not to have this ending,I knew it was coming, I knew my heart was going to break, and break it did.I am not going to say more because you are going to have to let your heart beat along with this couple and judge for yourself.

This is a huge love story that will stand the test of time,a beautiful test that is going to break your heart but it will get put back together because, we will meet again .Five Huge Emotional Stars.

Hankies at the ready people. This is not a drill!

Favourite Hello Hardest Goodbye is not only a beautifully crafted love story but also a story of intrigue and truths to be discovered. From the first page, ES Carter lays little traps for you to fall into and ask questions. They are the hooks that reel you in and leave you wanting to know everything about Macs and Ellis and the people they are.

I was desperate to understand Macs in the beginning. Why buy an old run-down mansion in a place you've never been to? Why leave everything you've built in London on a whim?
Then Macs finds Ellis. More intrigue is laid out and I took the bait, reading this beautiful story like a woman possessed in order to get answers. Thankfully, I got them all.

Underneath this amazing and different storyline, is the heart of real love. One man searching for his true love, another man not realising how much he needed to love, or indeed, what real love was until he found it.

The sleepy Welsh village setting is knee-deep with many brilliant supporting characters. I have to mention Iris in particular, who speaks her mind - without a filter. She is both hilarious and endearing.

The story itself leaves you feeling as if there are a world of possibilities out there for this amazing couple. It will have you analysing until you're blue in face! But one thing is for sure, I truly fell in love with both Macs and Ellis and I bet anyone else who reads FHHG will do too. They are amazing, beautiful men who were destined to be together. Always.

Wow !!!
Favourite Hello. Hardest Goodbye is a M/M love story that’s going to stay with me for a long time, it’s a book that truly deserves 5 stars because it has all the feels you would expect in a great read.
I don’t want to give to much of this love story away because I believe this is a book you need to pick up with no preconceived ideas, you need to read it first hand and just go with the flow, you won’t be disappointed.
Macsen Evans is a self made millionaire but in order to become successful he left everything he knew in his home town of Lily Bay but now he is back and is looking to complete his life and that means convincing Ellis Probert that there is such a thing as love at first sight.....
Two men looking to complete their life’s, two hearts that that together become one , two soulmates who need each other to survive all add to the romance and love that flows through this stand-alone.
I highly recommend this to all romance lovers because it’s a love story that is captivating.

I’m still crying because this is probably the best book I’ve ever read. I was waiting for an usual love story with two people that find each other after a bumpy road but what I’ve got is way beyond my expectations.
It’s raw and so gripping, it will have your heart shattered in million pieces but it’s also real and shows that side of humanity when life happens and you’ll have to accept it as it comes.

My favourite part:
“How many people are blessed enough to have that? To have their soulmate next to them, holding them, telling them they will never forget, they will always remember. Promising me he would live his life and make more memories, ones he would tell me about the next time we met.”

What an absolutely beautiful love story. I have fallen in love with two gorgeous men, Macsen and Ellis.

How can a book leave me heartbroken and tearful, but at the same time all warm, smiley and fuzzy inside? These are the feelings this incredible love story has given me and I'm in awe of this amazing author. I've read most of her books, she's a one click author, but this has surpassed all others (and let me tell you "One" was a top favourite read last year).

With an eye catching cover and the perfect title, this book is a unique take on true soulmate forever love. A love that transcends all boundaries and withstands the test of time. From the first pages of Macsen's frantic drive to Lily Bay, then the heartstopping moment he finally sees Ellis across the street, I was hooked and needed to know their story.

"“I’ve found him.” The words leave my lips on a whispered prayer, finally answered."

I'm not sure I have the words to describe how much I loved it from start to finish. I hope this is enough, I'm still feeling all the emotions a few days on, it was phenomenal. It will be among my top reads of not just this year, but always.

I highly recommend it and hope you love it as much as I did. If I could give more than 5 stars I would, it deserves it 🖤🤍

Riesco a sentirlo.
Buona lettura,
Eleonora

OMG...What a story. Favorite Hello Hardest Goodbye was an absolutely amazing love story. This was my first E.S Carter novel and I there are not enough words to describe how much I loved it. Its a story about two men, two halves of one a whole, always searching and not complete until they found each other. Its a story that will give you all the feels and touch your heart in more ways than one.
From the start this story captured my attention and I could not put it down. I was hooked, consumed with these characters and their journey together. Mascen and Ellis's story was unique and unlike anything I've ever read and I will admit I was not prepared for this book. However this was without a doubt one of the best books I've read this year and its definitely going on my list of all time Top Read. Worthy of so much more than 5 stars, this page-turner was a phenomenal and profound read and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of emotional M/M romance.

3.75 Stars

Finished this a couple of days ago but I've been unable to function or sleep this week (thx USA).

With that in mind, my external stress may have affected my reading experience and this won't be a coherent, intelligent review. I went into the story not knowing much and wasn't aware it had a plot. I enjoyed the book and Carter's wonderful writing style. The story was thought-provoking and certainly romantic, albeit unconventional, and a beautiful love story at the end of the day. It did feel slightly heavy-handed and like it was trying too hard at times, but that's really only a minor complaint in an otherwise great book.

I received a free copy to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Oh
My
God
I wasn't prepared for this book. I had just come off of reading an emotional book and wasn't expecting this one to be one as well. Holy crap on a cracker. Ellis and Macsen have an epic story, I won't ruin it for you but one piece of advice, have tissue and be prepared. Ugh, my heart took a beating. I chewed all my nails off too. Sweet lord this was a good book. I'll have to say it's top five of all time books to completely shatter me.

What can I say, this one snuck right up on me. It was a heck of a journey, sometimes even when you can feel it happening it still takes your breath away. The story of Macsen and Ellis broke me, the feels are so strong but also there is so much light. Iris in particular is a spark that cannot be missed and the camaraderie between all these friends is something to behold. Its warm and sweet, funny and heart breaking all rolled up in a beautiful book.

Started really good but then got a tad bit melodramatic. Though I'm sure that it can be enjoyed by people who like this kind of stuff. Just make sure to get into it blind.
