A trip through the savage west to the Mexican border. Edge helps to guide a wagon laden with gold through warring Indians, greedy soldiers and violent townsfolk along a bloody trail through the wilderness. The violence and bloodshed is over the top but tempered with Edge’s trademark witty puns and humor.

One of the few Edge books where Edge gets enamored of a particular woman. In this one it's a young Mexican woman traveling with her family from the US to Mexico. They actually take Edge prisoner at first but release him to help them fight Indians. His attraction to the daughter leads him along in their trip, in which various surprises arise. Edge's trademarked puns are in full display, including at the end. I'm curious to see if the final expected denouement of this book is actually told in the next one, since at the end the relationship between Edge and the young woman, Isabella, is left unfinished.
