More of a short story than a novel, about a man who takes a drastic decision to improve his life. The main character, Ed Garcia, was well developed which is impressive given the length of the book. I would have loved to read more about him, and the tantalising cliffhanger at the end. When is the sequel coming out???

3.5 🌟

This novelette certainly packs a punch! In the 60 or so pages, it left me feeling a range of emotions, contemplating aspects of my life AND a few questions, too!
The whole concept of a Do-Over is intriguing.
I’m sure most of us have had times when we wish we could go back and change something in our past, and, after reading this book, I wish The A.E.C was real, to a point.
So, I did enjoy this book and love The A.E.C. It’s such an original take (for me), especially regarding the contract however the main character, Ed, annoyed and angered me. I can’t say why because I don’t want to give any spoilers, but Ed was selfish! That isn’t a bad thing and is not the reason for my 3.5 rating. I actually like it when the main character isn’t likeable, more fitting to real life.

The reason for my rating?
1 - I wish it was longer.
2 - I felt it was tied up in a nice little bow aka it was a little too perfect.
3 - Left with questions.

Thank you so much, S N Sippy and The Booknetwork.co.uk, for gifting me this interesting and thought-provoking book.

The A.E.C by S N Sippy
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

If you had the opportunity to turn back time and be young again, would you do it? What if it meant you only had five years to live?
Ed is not happy with how he lived his life and when he meets an Age Exchange Coordinator, he makes a deal to become 30 years younger. Will he use these years wisely? Fall in love? Make peace with his family? And what happens when the five years are up?

I enjoyed this book, it was an easy read and although much of the language seemed simplistic, it did tell the story well. It is a short novella at only 60 pages so a perfect one sitting read.
My main criticism with this book however is where is the rest of it? Ed has an entire five years of youth back and we don’t really know what he gets up to! The ending also felt quite rushed, especially with Maya meeting the priest and I felt that it could have been explored in much more detail.

This book does make you think about your life and if you are happy with it. Are there elements you want to change before it’s too late?

I finished The A.E.C in one sitting and have mixed thoughts on it. It's a short story that follows one man's wish to he thirty again, to have the opportunity of love once more. The story itself had great potential with thought going into the plot. Nothing felt too rushed either, given that it is a short story.
One of the meanings one could pick up from this story is to not dwell on the past and just focus on the present. Focus on what you have instead of what might have been.
Another thing I liked about this book was how it did provide you with information you may not have known before in regards to religion/symbols.

One thing I will criticise is the way it was written. The language seemed a little too simple and when some of the character were speaking it was as though they were in an advert on TV, they spoke in one tone with no emotion. (Especially that scene with the waiter in the Indian restaurant.)

With all this being said, I rate the book 3/5🌟

👉 I am pretty sure that at some point we have always wanted a little life redo. But would we use it wisely?
This was a very intriguing read for me as the idea of it is very attractive.
👊For a little book this sure does pack the conversation starters in it!
It is a simple but loaded idea, and an idea that sits in your mind, and pushes the "What If" theory riggt to the front of your thoughts!
👉 The writing style may not be for everyone but I am sure that everyone can take something from this book.

This book surprised me. It was different to what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. Sippy managed to capture such a beautiful message within a lovely short story perfectly. Despite only being 65 pages long, I fell in love with Ed and wished for him to get his happy ending. This book is gripping and fast paced from the get go. It is such a lovely heartwarming story and really reminds you to treasure your time and loved ones. I’d really recommend this for a quick read, my only criticism is that I wish it was longer with more a more in depth look into Ed’s life.
