Self-exiled to the south of France, New York caricaturist Oscar Lemoine finds romance while his dog, Elizabeth--an aging black Labrador with artistic talents--paints a series of masterpieces
Paul Micou (born 1959) is an American novelist. Born in San Francisco, he grew up in Turkey, Iran, Washington D.C. and Connecticut. After graduating from Harvard in 1981 he moved to Paris, then London. He now lives in France with his wife and two sons.
This book follows the misguided adventures of a superficial cartoonist, who's reading of social situations leaves something to be desired. His social fumblings are looked on by his aging Labrador, Elizabeth, my favourite character. As the book progresses he develops a realisation of some of the consequences of his actions but still manages to remain cocooned in his own world.
Amusing tongue in cheek novel about a chancer Oscar whose dog, Elizabeth, is a Canine Artist. Sadly Elizabeth dies but the artist gets his girl, manages to live off her husband and escapes her husband's Nazi like rages.
