In the ice lands of hell, a one-eyed man with a gun must protect the pregnant woman from those who hunt them.
At his side is a caravan of pilgrims hoping the baby within is their salvation.
But there is no escape from what has come.
The shadow that speaks.
The One who knows the sins of us all.
The Last Testament is the startling sequel to The Last Disciple. It is a terrifying journey along the shoals of the abyss, where even in the darkness of damnation, a man will do whatever he must to keep hope alive.
I was fortunate enough to get an advanced reader copy of The Last Testament. Let me start by saying this book is not for the faint of heart. It's shocking. It's violent. And it's exceptionally well done.
The second installment of James Holmes' trilogy takes the world and characters you know from book 1 (The Last Disciple) ... and launches them into chaos. The tension and anticipation will keep you on the edge of your seat. The storyline requires a shift from the biblical thriller/apocalypse genre of book 1, to a more apocalyptic horror for book 2. But you quickly become invested in the various characters and storylines highlighted in this book. And you hold onto hope for them.
After the epic “The Last Disciple” I was nervous this might not be as incredible. And then on page 1, those nerves were put to rest. James Holmes delivered again! Where has this author been?! Buckle the heck up - “The Last Testament” is impossible to put down. My only question: How long do I have to wait for the third book! My new favorite author!
I loved the first book. After starting this book, wasn't sure it was for me, but something kept drawing me in. Mystery, intrique, whatever! Now can't wait for the next.
Fast-paced is an understatement! From the very beginning until the end it was non-stop action! Definitely keeps you hanging on. I liked the new characters we meet in this second book of the series and again the characterization is good (as in the first book). I also loved how you can never be sure things are what they truly are - what is the truth here? Quite imaginative. As before with the first book, 5 stars are rare for me, so 4 stars is a really great review for this book. Would definitely recommend for fans of fast-paced apocalyptic type thrillers.
