Jaded and betrayed, Raena Barren walks on eggshells, trying to keep her fellow spies from stabbing her in her sleep. They’re jealous of her fast rise through their hierarchy, and some dangerous people want her to stay put. But when someone she cares about gets a knife in the back, the only way to save him is to keep up the pace. And to rank again, Raena will have to face her greatest fear yet: she will have to share a bed with Jaen Portent.
But this calculating, cold-eyed man has his own set of secrets… and Raena finds that she just might have a taste for them. She never imagined that pain could make her feel so alive--but she isn’t stupid enough to think she could love him. After all, Jaen is working for Apex, the sex trafficking syndicate that nearly murdered her friend. And if Raena’s going to get revenge, she will have to make use of old skills... and learn a sobering truth about her own past.
That was a crazy, sexy scene between Jaen and Raena. I’m more interested in the secrets Jaen‘s hiding then Jorr. I’m about done with Jorr’s bs. Every time he wants his you know what wet, he’s inside Lassyne. That woman bugs the crap out of me. There’s still so much we don’t know, but the book is definitely a page-turner.
Scottie Kaye is as talented as she is diabolical! Revelation upon revelation were revealed in this book and finally she figures out the cypher! This installment kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and I almost fell off when I got to the last page. I need more!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
So much happened. I can’t wait to see what Raena does next. I do feel for Kail, thought I don’t care for him as much as the other characters. Jaen secrets are a long list of things and I look forward to seeing them be revealed. He’s a far better man then his brother. Can’t wait to read the next book!!
Fascinating plot 5 stars. - More details are being revealed about Raena, Jorr and Jaen. This book shows how Raena acquired the Foxglove rank. Again, the plot is hard to predict which makes it hard to stop reading the story. Is Raena really over Jorr? Is this the end for Garen? What role will Jaen play in Raena’s life? This part of the series is full of action and steamy scenes.
Carried on reading from book 3 to book 4 - I'm so invested. Raena has moved up another level and she's paying the price for her fast ascension through the ranks as the other spies are jealous. Raena is strategic and has to play the game as the only way she can leave the castle is to reach the next rank as fast as possible but means spending time with Jorr's twin brother, Jaen. Again, it is such clever writing as you learn more about the characters but they are all shrouded in mystery that you never know who to trust. Discovery of the Apex, more intrigue, more danger, more experiences means that you'll find it hard to put the book down.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the fourth book in the Sleeping Lotus series and the author does not disappoint. The creative way Scottie Kaye thought about her magic system, Sen, and its uses in “every day” scenarios is inspiring. Without giving too much away, my favorite scene in the whole series (so far) happens in chapter four. We see multiple Sens being used to treat a severely wounded character. I am still thinking about this scene days later.
