When hell breaks loose, heaven needs a bounty hunter. James Thomas kills demons, cavorts with imps, and doesn’t let Heaven tell him what to do. To pay the bills he works as a bounty hunter, bringing in scum bags who fail to show up at their court dates. It’s bad enough that he has to try and keep his quasi apprentice and secretary, Rainah, from sticking her nose in business where it doesn’t belong, but it seems that a quiet neighborhood has been primed with demonic shrines whose only purpose is to blow everything to hell and back. James, once again, must figure out who and what is trying to unleash hell on earth while keeping Rainah from falling under the power of a demonic sword and her own inner demons. Sometimes it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed in the morning. Perfect for fans of The Dresden Files and the Iron Druid Chronicles. If you enjoy action-packed urban fantasy at its best and a flawed but determined hero, then you’ll love this second book in the Demon Hunter Series.
I've had many jobs in my life. I bagged groceries in high school to pay for gas, fast food burgers, and yes...cigarettes and beer. I joined the Army and spent three years in Germany, learning how to stay awake during guard duty and how to be somewhat responsible. I was an electrician for a while, which gave me a good appreciation for what it feels like to get shocked. I decided, after getting zapped one too many times, to go back to school. While I was working as an electrician I had a daughter born with cerebral palsy. She is the best thing to have happened to me. I decided to stay home and take care of her after she had surgery to help her be able to walk and during that time I read a book so bad that I wanted to see if I could do better. Turns out I could, I found that I loved to write and I wasn't all that bad at it. Fast forward a few years and I have now finished five novels (one is nearing the end of the editing process) and a short story about Santa fighting zombies!
I've done a lot of things, but writing is in my soul, I hope you take the time to give my books a chance, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Pardon the cliche, but this book was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. The ambushes, the multiple factions rally set the stakes and created a sense of urgency. The final confrontation was -chef's kiss-
The author knows how to write good action, and the choreography, the sense of what is happening and where is pretty great, which is hard to do when you have more than two characters.
Only giving 4/5 because after the scene with Mama Lupita I wanted to see the other Champions, and I didn't find Montgomery very likable. I'd love to know what happened to cause James' "split" from Michael and the others . And not enough Dalsheen. Fingers crossed for a sequel!
