Kaitlin Carmody is a woman with a past—one she’d like to forget. A string of bad choices led to a fresh start in the small town of Starlight, so when her boss shows signs of serious illness, she’s determined to help him the best she can. But Finn Samuelson, her boss’s handsome, headstrong son, is certain Kaitlin is taking advantage of his father and running his family’s bank into the ground. When attraction overcomes reason, Finn must decide if Kaitlin is really a threat to his family…or its salvation.
USA Today and Top 5 Amazon Bestselling author Michelle Major writes swoon-worthy stories full of heart, heat, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. When she’s not dreaming up romance, you’ll find her hiking the trails (or avoiding housework) in her home state of Colorado.
A wonderful start to a new series! I've thoroughly enjoyed the author's series set in Crimson, Colorado, so couldn't wait to read this new series set in Starlight, Washington. The Best Intentions has everything I adore about Major's stories - heart tugs, witty (and sexy!) banter, emotional twists, and characters you want to have margaritas with! Finn is a sexy hero who's protective of his estranged father. Kaitlin has found Starlight the perfect place to start a do-over until she meets Finn. Watching these two learn what they want for themselves and with each other was a true delight! Can't wait for the next Starlight book!
The Best Intentions begins the new Welcome to Starlight series with a couple who have a lot of baggage to bring to this new relationship – and a lot of learning, adjusting attitudes, and accepting a different truth than they’d believed. It’s an intriguing story that often had me wanting to either smack Finn upside the head or sit them both down for a serious scolding.
Small towns really can bring out the best and the worst in people. Some simply want to help, others feed the rumor mill making life difficult for people who don’t deserve the looks, the whispers, or the outright lies. Starlight, Washington is very much like that and the small bank that Finn’s father owns is, in many ways, at the center of this story. Finn has a very convoluted memory of his childhood after his mother died. And because of those memories, he had led a life far different from his father’s by leaving the small town behind, working in a different area in the banking industry – and holding on to resentments, anger, and yes, misunderstandings for a decade. Fate brought him home for a short time, but it’s Kaitlin who is keeping him in town as he unravels rumors, and new to him truths that will have him questioning every decision he’s made for the last ten years.
I adored Kaitlin for many reasons, Finn I liked but he grew on me as his attitude changed, so for me, this was Kaitlin’s book. She’s had a very difficult life and pulled herself up to start over in Starlight. Kaitlin is loyal, kind, and stubborn. She still views herself as what was in many ways. Finn sets off sparks from their first meeting, and that feeling only intensifies as they learn truths and set aside assumptions.
I enjoyed The Best Intentions very much. It is an excellent beginning to a new series. Yes, there is some world-building, there has to be. We will meet some of Finn’s friends and other people in town who will likely have their stories told in this series. I’m looking forward to seeing how that teenage vow that three male friends once made slowly get broken as each finds a love worth fight for. I had fun in this world and I’m anxious to get back to Starlight for the next book. If you love a good, solid love story that will provide all the feels you could want, then this one is for you.
4 stars. I really enjoyed this book and I could not put my kindle down until I finished it. I found that both characters, Kaitlin and Finn went through some great character development. Especially Finn because man was he hard to like in the beginning. He was such a jackass and rude but Kaitlin stuck to her guns and went toe to toe with him which I loved. Their relationship starts off so rocky and that made it fun to watch their banter take on a more playful tone as they got to know each other better. They’re both very damaged people with tough back stories that made me empathize with them. They had a lot of emotional baggage to over come before they could really get their relationship on track. The ending was wonderful if not a bit abrupt but I’m not mad at it.
I loved the small town feel of this and I’m excited to read the next book as it follows one of Finn’s best friends and I’m sure we’ll see more of Kaitlin and Finn in it as well.
"The Best Intentions (Welcome to Starlight)" is book 1 in a 2 book series by Michelle Major. I got it off of Kindle Unlimited because I've read other books by this author, and it is a light, romantic read. Kaitlin Carmody is making a new life for herself and leaving her past behind. Finn Samuelson wants nothing to do with the family business which is the small towns bank, but after a health scare with his father he finds that the bank is in financial trouble so he stays in town trying to fix the problems. They both have many personal issues to overcome, but still find themselves drawn to each other.
"The Best Intentions" was a good romance, but I felt that the author could have gone deeper into the traumas of the characters. I know Kaitlyn had a sad past, but I wanted to know more. Was she really a bad-girl? Why? How? I believe the author focused too much on the "I like Finn, but we can't stay together" thing and forgot to work more on their traumas. Actually, I didn't see the point for so much struggle to accept that they loved each other. Anyway, some of the dialogues are pretty amazing.
I would recommend this book, but it could be better.
I read three other books of Michelle Majors and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I decided to try this series she wrote. She did not disappoint. These are novels of lightness, some complications, but in the end usually all is good, the type of story we need right now in this world. With what’s transpiring with 2 years of the pandemic, and now the Devastation of the Ukraine being attack so atrociously by the Russians, once in awhile you just need a feel good novel to curl up with. Michelle Majors is supplying that for me.
The Best Intentions by Michelle Major Kaitlin Carmody and Finn Samuelson meet when Finn comes to town and sees his dad at the bank where Kaitlin is working. Kaitlin and Finn work together to try and save the bank from failing. I really enjoyed this book. Finn and Kaitlin had to work through some problems dealing with her past and his past. I really enjoyed this book and recommend to anyone looking for a great book to read.
What happens when three high school friends make a pact never to fall in love? Finn Samuelson is the first to fall and the other two aren’t going to be too far behind. Major captures small town and starting over perfectly in her latest. Finn and Kaitlin bring out the best in each other, even as they both face their past to find their best future.
Thank you to the author for sending me this book. I enjoyed reading it. It was a nice story of a woman who needs to get away from her previous life and have a new beginning. She meets a hot man and they form a relationship. She has a great job working for his father. Then her past comes back to haunt her.
Want a Hallmark movie in a book? Here it is. She’s running from a bad past, mostly from her upbringing. She’s comes to a quaint little town and settles in. Along comes the son of the man she works for, and he thinks the worst of her. It goes from there into the classic Hallmark love story.
I liked this book's storyline. Some parts of this story was sad 😞. I liked Kaitlin's character. I felt sorry for Kaitlin. I liked Finn's character. I felt sorry for Finn. I liked the ending.
This is such a fun new series. I can’t wait to devour them all. I am already so infatuated with the town of Starlight and the people in it. Michelle Major tugs at the heartstrings with this one. You feel so much for these characters. You become completely engrossed and absolutely invested in their happily ever after.
Michelle Major has such a special way with words. They flow like magic and you are instantly dazzled and completely head over heels in love. A swoon worthy read that keeps you turning the pages.
Michelle Major has turned out another fantabulous book! Small town romance with a second chance for the heroine! The hero Finn...swoon...just swoon... I need a man to sweep me off my feet like that please and thank you! I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment of Starlight!
Small town romance at it's best! Michelle Major has held our hearts with her Crimson, Colorado series for years, so readers will be delighted to see her weave her magic once again with the kick-off to her latest series Welcome to Starlight! In THE BEST INTENTIONS, we get the story of a woman who has turned over a new leaf since moving to Starlight a couple of years ago, and when her boss's son threatens the life she now cherishes, she's not going to take his attitude sitting down!
Kaitlin is delightful! She's spent a lifetime making bad choices, but since moving to Starlight, she feels like she's found her place. She loves her job, and the boss that took a chance on her will have her loyalty through anything.
It didn't take long for Finn to redeem himself and make me like him. He's shocked when he returns home to Starlight for the first time in a decade and sees the shape his family bank is in. His dad has always prided himself on his success, so what exactly is going on here?
I highly recommend this book to fans of small town romance with a kick of sass and a whole lot of heart. I'm looking forward to more in the series!
I liked it overall, but I would have liked to have known more about Kaitlyn's bad-girl past. The author has clearly done her homework on the banking industry; some of it was hard to follow. But again, it was the easy way out for most romance writers - immediate, strong, powerful sexual attraction as the catalyst.
I loved this story. My biggest complaint is that it ended without a prologue. At least I know there are more books coming to Starlight. This is a definitely recommended if you like happily ever after!
