Dorothea Sandham agrees to a marriage of convenience with Sir Tate Bancroft, but discovers their relationship will be more complicated than she bargained
Orphaned Dorothea had no choice but to become the unpaid companion to her detestable cousin Letitia, but she is often mortified by the woman's actions. Letitia insists on visiting the recently widowed Sir Tate Bancroft, but when her beloved lapdog, Clarissa, runs off into the bushes, Dorothea chases after her, and meets Tate. Discovering his infant daughter did not die along with her mother, Thea is amazed when Tate offers her the "position" of mother to the child, if she marries him immediately, since h needs to record to the war in the Peninsula. Thea agrees, and thus begins a very enjoyable marriage-of-convenience romance. Recommended.
Also full of atrocious puns as well The hero is Adriana’s brother. His young wife has died just after childbirth. A most inconvenient marriage of convenience.
One of the authors was my neighbor when this book came out. I was organizing some shelves and came across this and its companions (Adriana and Louisa). I was curious to see how well they had held up. They're not great, but they're quite well-written and still entertaining. They're quick and entertaining reads with interesting characters that make appearances in all three books.
