Richard K Fox (1975 - to hopefully another 40 something years) was born in Phoenix, Arizona and that is about where the normal tale of a childhood ended. He spent a large portion of his early years up and down the Southern California coast and central Arizona... Ok, I'm switching to first person because this is weird...
I switched schools frequently as a child due to moving and being bounced from one parent to another. The only time I had any real stability was in the early years. At some point I got tired of finding new friends and then moving on, so I started to hang out in the library and read anything that looked interesting. That is where I found my love for science fiction, fantasy, and fiction in general.
My imagination has always been strong, but reading books like The Lord of The Rings, A Wizard of Earthsea, Starship Troopers, and Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series really threw it into overdrive. Throw in authors like Stephen King and Dean Koontz and I developed an appreciation of various styles and genre.
Fast forward 20+ years past the military and multiple careers, and I have finally found the courage to publish my own stories. I currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay) and spend my time writing, consulting, and practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My anticipated projects will primarily focus on LitRPG, Thrillers & Urban Fantasy as these are the three genre I love reading the most.
Well I enjoyed this one it seemed a little rushed and not as well edited. There wasn’t as much suspense in the action, while plentiful, didn’t have didn’t have the punch of the first book. I want to a little more new magic as well. Gavin‘s character remains interesting and we haven’t seen all of his backstory yet. I love Tilda. I really like his developing relationship. I’m very interested to read the next book.
I gave it 3 stars because it is written very succinctly. It lacks some emotion I’m used to by other writers, but at the same time keeps me interested enough to keep reading. I sometimes am frustrated on how calm the main character stays when somebody goes missing, and that is after he gets a call from her basically telling him she’ll be kidnapped. He takes time off etc.
A continuation of the first book that allows the reader a glimpse into the past lives of the main characters in a little more detail. Also you get to see them grow closer and build trust. This book is obviously a transition book , but is still has enough going for it to make it enjoyable. Will definitely read the next book.
