"Where am I?"
"You're in Between."
"In between what?"
"No. You're in Between.
What's the last thing you remember?"
"I don't remember anything."

I don't know where I was going, or why I was so dressed up. I can't even guess who tried to kill me—or why he'd want to. I don't even remember my name. All I know is I ended up in a world where you exist for as long as you are remembered. But how you experience life depends on what you can remember. Problem is, I can't remember anything.

I have friends in Between: Jessica, the spunky girl whose first kiss was stolen by death. Nathaniel, the pioneer who cannot fade no matter how much he wants to. And Carter, the bully who became my best friend. We all live with the others, here in Between, where we are fueled by the memories of those we left behind. Our worlds are comprised of the last day that lives in our memories and the present world that goes on without us. Where people will eventually forget us. And when we are forgotten, we fade.

I believe hope is the strongest thread that unites us from where we are in life to where our created potential can be. While fulfilling dreams and reaching goals requires additional traits, the starting point is always a spark of hope that you can actually do it. Hope gives people the courage to pick up a pen, move across the country, start a new career, or even survive captivity, war, and the everyday stresses of life. Creating that spark of hope is what I love to do.

My books cross genres and themes: like life, their stories weave threads of the best and worst of moments, triumphs, and traumas. My fiction is deeply character-driven, centered around the inner worlds of the characters as they face outer challenges, confront their own flaws, and make sense of their worlds. In my books, you will find the innocence of first love, the trauma of war and family abuse, the struggle to break free of molds and expectations, and the complexity of family relationships. Not every character will get a fairytale ending, but read on, Friend. I believe that every story, whether my fiction or your life, can emerge from the darkest of places end in hope.

Love, Lindsey

You can't just throw away a chance at life because you're scared of living.

Okay, maybe I'm partially biased. The book is dedicated to me, after all. BUT. I don't think that's it (at least not entirely). I genuinely think this book is genius. Here's the scoop:

Our protagonist wakes up in the woods, no memory of who she is, what she's doing there or why she's wearing a ball gown and high heels. She knows one thing: her murderer is still on the loose. After a trek through the trees, she stumbles across the oddest conglomeration of people who all have one thing in common: they're not alive, but they're not quite dead, either.

In Between, her new friends live with limited energy and limited abilities, kept "alive" (but not alive) by being remembered (for some it's a blessing, and others, a curse - sorry Nathaniel). They don't let their limitations stop them from helping Chloe/Cassandra try to decide if she wants to fight for her past or live in her present.

This book has so many twists and unexpected details - and wraps up in a heart-achingly and -breakingly beautiful way that leaves it open for the events of the sequel, Among.
