Mitzy Moon #6

Bars and Boxcars

Rate this book
A robbery on the rails. A gang in hiding. Can this psychic sleuth blow the whistle on a dangerous crew?
Mitzy Moon struggles to put snooping on the back burner and help launch the Duncan Restorative Justice Foundation. But her good-girl routine leaves the station after a deputy crashes the Grand Opening with a search warrant. And she’s full-steam ahead on the case when she discovers her father’s railroad is the target for a heist.

Never one to play it safe, Mitzy blatantly ignores the warnings of her entitled feline and risks everything. She even cons her interfering Ghost-ma into helping her with an alarming undercover plan. And now she promises just a few more shifts at the seedy roadhouse and she’ll have the crooks stopped in their tracks.

Can Mitzy pull off the double cross of a lifetime, or will more than her investigation be derailed?

Bars and Boxcars is the sixth book in the hilarious paranormal cozy mystery series, Mitzy Moon Mysteries. If you like snarky heroines, supernatural intrigue, and a dash of romance, then you’ll love Trixie Silvertale’s twisty whodunits.

Another good addition to the series. Mitzy and the Sheriff have taken a step forward in their relationship, though Mitzi was annoying me there for a minute with her indecisive. The two mysteries collided and while the outcome of one was sad, it was good to see Mitzi’s protective streak aroused to protect.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I read the first five books in this series, and I really enjoyed them, so I was happy to read this book when it was available.

Mitzy Moon finally has a family since she inherited her grandmother’s bookstore. She’s gotten to know Grams in her ghostly form, and I was happy to see more of her father in this book. All of the main characters are unique, flawed, and loveable. Mitzy is clumsy, smart, and hilarious. Grams is a force of nature. Jacob, Mitzy’s father, went to prison for a robbery when he was younger, but now he’s trying to give back to the community as well as getting to know his daughter.

Mitzy always attracts trouble. She has some psychic gifts that can often get her out of trouble, but they also get her into trouble in the first place. Bars & Boxcars is no different. When her father’s trains are being robbed by a professional gang, Mitzy decides to look into it. The problem is, she gets more than she bargained for.

I always like the Mitzy Moon stories. They’re funny, suspenseful, and there’s always a little romance, especially between her and the sheriff. I’m looking forward to number seven!

Ten stars!

The opening drew me in right away: it took me like two sentences and I was ba-a-ack! Oh how I love this series. And this was even better than the others, how that is even possible I don’t know. Ten stars from me! I kept on reading way past my bedtime. Just couldn’t put it down. So good. The book I started after I finished this one paled in comparison, even though that was pretty good too, but this one was so good it leaves other books behind by a mile!

Mitzy has matured! Well, only a bit, so don’t worry! And oh-my-ghost I love Ghost-ma! But oh Mitzy, Mitzy, what have you gotten yourself into this time! She has such a talent for gettin’ into trouble! You gotta read this, y’all! (I know we’re talking almost-Canada, so if you want to understand this Southern phrasing, just read the book!)

I am happy that Mitzy and Erick's relationship is advancing. Mitzy decides to go under cover in a bar. She is trying to get information about a robbery and ends up kidnapped. She also thinks Erick is cheating on her. Mitzy is doing everything she can to figure out how to get out of trouble. There is no one else she can rely on, so she has to figure it out for herself. Pye put himself in danger to help her investigate and he comes through when she needs him. Love where this series is going.

Audiobook Review.

As always I had a great time listening to Marlo narrate Silvertale highly enjoyable story. The quirky and witty Mitzy is perfectly brought to life by her voice.
The story itself is a little treat to consume under a comfy blanket with a steaming cup to keep you company. Highly recommended!!

Our 6th Mitzy Moon Mystery case and I still cannot get enough of this super kick ass heroine, her snarky ghost-ma, her beautiful and brave though canny Caracal Pyewacket, and of course the hunk of a sheriff Erick. Since coming over to Pie Cherry Harbour Mitzy just cannot keep her nose out of trouble, she is curious and is turning into a really good sleuth. She was meant to be by the side of her father Jacob, on the night of the launching of his new project The Duncan Restorative Justice Foundation, however she overheard something which hooked her right away. In this book she is finally even recruited as Erick's personal CI which is really a first, and such a breakthrough. She risks her all in this fantastic adventure where she goes up against The Stopwatch Robbers, a gang of train robbers and a dad who had kidnapped his young son, to the devastation of his poor mother. Her ghost-ma is against her venturing out to solve the mystery as is Pyewacket but Mitzy is, if nothing else extremely headstrong. She is also growing stronger in her psychic powers which go to help her solve the cases faster. Thank goodness for her canny pet who once again saves the day. Furthermore this time round Mitzy seems to be making headway into the blossoming new romance with the dishy Erick who has been making her heart throb right from the start. I am so enjoying the light-hearted humour and the great escapades in this highly addictive series of whodunnit mysteries that I cannot wait to have the next book in my hands.

Bars and Boxcars - another great read

This is the 6th book in this series and they are in a running order if you want to catch the underlying stories moving alongside the cases. I love the way the characters are unfolding and how Mitzy Moon is evolving. She is becoming more mature, even funnier and is an ass whipping broad in this book. I thought her Daisy persona was great and found myself reading it in a Southern twang.
I think the books now have the right balance that I wasn't 100% sure of in the beginning and are now in a great place. The mix of danger, paranormal, friendship, grumpy people, baddies and progressing love story are all very well-balanced.
So, in this story as usual, the protagonist is right in the centre of everything going on - when a dangerous band of train robbers hits town she does some fast thinking and plunges herself central to the mix.
Sheriff Erick, her love interest and object of desire is caught in a loving embrace with a strange woman and Mitzy does her bits and pieces. I love the way he is coming across as a strong, caring, heroic type of guy now. In a roundabout way they are working as a team and their slow-burning relationship steps up a notch.
I'm not going to say anything else about the story. Read it and find out for yourself! Recommended read and one of my favourite female sleuths.

On the night that Jacob's foundation finally has its inaugural launch, there's a warrant being issued to search a line of boxcars and the depot.  Boxcars owned by Jacob's railway.  And Deputy Paulson is at the bottom of it.  Mitzy isn't about to let that go without her own investigation.  Especially since Amaryllis - Jacob's main squeeze - has asked for her help.

This has GOT to be the BEST Mitzy Moon yet!  Silvertale's characters have become family, and every adventure just makes me want to move to Pin Cherry Harbor more.  Bars & Boxcars keeps the action popping as Mitzy goes undercover - against Ghost-ma's advice - to ferret out the bad guys.  There's plenty of nail-biting action, a couple of really too close calls; but in the end Mitzy and Sheriff Too-Hot-to-Handle save the day!

Took me just a few hours to race through this one, and it left me with that familiar "oh no, now what?" when it was done.  But I know Book Seven is in the works, and based on events in Book Six, it is going to be a doozie!   Don't miss out!

[Many thanks to the author for the opportunity to read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.   This is my honest review, the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.]

I love this series by Trixie! It may get redundant to keep saying it but every adventure gets better and better!

I wholeheartedly recommend this series to young and old alike because all will enjoy the escapades that Mitzy gets herself into! Thank goodness Pye is there to get the message to those who can come and save her!

I get a happy feeling when I see the latest book has been released because I know I’m going to thoroughly enjoy what is contained therein.

Trixie’s writing makes the stories come to life! That’s the glue that makes this series so enjoyable! Without it it wouldn’t be the hit series it is!

I salute you Trixie! Well done and I’m already eager for the series to continue when the next book is ready to come our way! Your fans are eagerly awaiting each and every book in this delightful series!

Mitzy's father Jacob finally has his foundation up and running to help former inmates get jobs and such. But who would guess that the railroad he owns, where he employs some of the ex-cons would be targeted for a train robbery? Mitzy, of course, can't let that go un-investigated. She takes a job as a barmaid when she overhears some guys talking about the robbery. This time, hunky Sheriff Erick gets Mitzy to sign on as a CI, giving her 'permission' to stay undercover to look for the hoodlums. Pyewacket the caracal gets involved, too, as he swallows a clue, leading to an overnight stay at Doc Ledo's clinic. And there is a misunderstanding when Mitzy prances into the Sheriff's office to see him embracing a pretty brunette. In the end, Mitzy finds the train robbery clue, gets kidnapped, and saves a missing child. And has her first real kiss from Erick. I enjoy this series a lot!

The opening of her dad's new project, modern day train robbers, a missing little boy, Sheriff Erick with his arms around another woman, and a sick Pye.. wow!!! Mitzy definitely has her hands full in this latest edition. It is the opening of the Duncan Restorative Justice Foundation and as everybody talks and smoozes, Deputy Paulsen comes through the crowd looking for a judge for a warrant and Mitzy's psychic mood ring gives her a vision involving train tracks, she knows that it involves her family and that she will do anything to make sure her dad is not involved. So after this shindig is over, Mitzy is determined to get to the bottom of this but she may have bitten off more than she can handle in this one. This one may cost her life!
This series continually get better and better. It's an addictive series and always leaves you wanting for more. Absolutely loved it.

This is the 6th book in the Mitzi Moon series and the second I’ve read. I enjoyed this story just as much as the last one I read about the psychic bookstore owner/heiress and her grandmother’s spirit.

Mitzi inherited the store and a pile of money from a grandmother she didn’t even know existed. She also inherited psychic powers that allow her to garner impressions with the help of her mood ring, and the ability to see and talk to her dead grandmother, a feisty lady who loved collecting husbands and couture. Oh, yes, and a cat named Pyewacket that is much more than your average feline companion.

This is a fun and sassy cozy mystery series that delivers on entertainment and wit. I love Mitzi with all her quirks and her tendency to get involved in local crimes with alarming frequency.

Keep ‘em coming, I’ll keep reading.

Mitzy Moon does it again. This amazing heroin captures your heart and your attention from page one! Mitzy can’t stay out of an intriguing investigation, and a train robbery is too much to resist.

Mitzy’s father has finally opened his facility to help ex-cons find jobs. But right away there is a problem. The railroad that he owns is hit by a team of train robbers. The authorities want to focus on the new hires at the railroad – ex-cons. Mitzy is determined not to let this new project of her father’s go down in flames.

When Mitzy pops in on her favorite sheriff to discuss the case, she walks in on Erick hugging another woman. While drowning her sorrows at a local bar, she overhears something that seems related to the railroad robbery. And the chase is on!

Bars and Boxcars is the sixth book in the Mitzy Moon Mysteries and is a terrific paranormal cozy mystery.

I am loving this series and cannot wait for book #7. This book brings Mitzy to realize how much her family and Pyewacket mean to her, showing more of Mitzy's character growth. There is a cast of quirky characters to enjoy in these books. Poor Ghost-ma gets conned by Mitzy whereas she is usually the one doing the conning. This book has humour, jealousy, danger, suspense, and a touch of romance for Mitzy and Erick.

I recommend this series to anyone who loves cozy mysteries even if you don't normally read paranormal mysteries. You will love Ghost-ma!!!

I read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book with no obligation.

This book is one of a series, but I felt that it could be read as a standalone, which I liked. I really enjoyed the storyline because it flowed nicely, never any lulls, it was funny, and it had some mystery that needed to be solved.

Mitzy, the main character, was again likable, hilarious, strong-willed, and even more ingenious than she was at the beginning of the series. I like that her character, as well as the others, continues to grow and surprise. I also felt like in this book, we got to really see development between Mitzy and Erick, which adds a bonus to the story in general.

Overall, I think this book and the entire series has a lot to offer. It makes you laugh, it makes you think, and it makes you wish for more.

I love this series but I think this is my favorite book out of them all. Mitzy and the gang are back for more fun and laughs in almost Canada...and , of course, for a little bit of trouble. Mitzy seems to be growing up but not too quickly. And, the handsome sheriff, Erick, finally kisses her but only to prevent him from being seen by the local bar owner. What will this mean for their relationship? If you like fun cozy mysteries, read this book but only after reading the books preceding it in this series. It can be read as a stand alone but don't cheat yourself out of the enjoyment of seeing the main character's growth.

It looks like Mitzy's relationship with hunky sheriff Eric is going well, until she walks into his office to see him embracing another woman! Who IS she?Who is the frightened little boy that she sees in her mood ring? Before Mitzy has a chance to get answers, trains leaving from her father's train depot are targeted by hijackers. To find the answers Mitzy goes undercover as a waitress at a local dive bar. Will she get the tips she's looking for or end up in more trouble than she and her friends can handle? Don't miss this page turning book! Trust me when I say there's just no place like Pin Cherry Harbor.

Best book in the series so far. Mitzy and Erick, finally!! I thought this was a good mystery for Mitzy to help solve. She also gets to go undercover for this one. She also shows her 22 year old inexperience in this book when it comes to relationships. It will be fun to watch Mitzy and Erick's relationship finally go somewhere and grow. I liked how Mitzy is using her sense and powers more to help. Also who doesn't love Pye, I want one for myself. I look forward to the next book of laughs, good mystery and a little romance hopefully.

Well now, what is happening with Sheriff Erick? Does Mitzy have some competition? This book got real interesting real quick. Wink, wink. No, I’m not saying more on that romantic background story. The mysteries in this were just as interesting. Mitzy found a job, Pye had to see the vet. This is one book you don’t want to miss!
I love this series. I really enjoy how each book uncovers a bit more about the people in it. For this reason, I would highly recommend reading it in order.

Another brilliant adventure with our one and only Mitzy Moon.

Mitzy uses her ever growing psychic abilities to outsmart vicious train robbers, find a missing child and still find time to romance the socks off the hunky Sheriff in the 6th installment of Trixie Silvertale's hilarious Mitzy Moon Mysteries.

I have listened to the Audible version also. Coleen Marlo really bring the characters to life, and sets your imagination alive.

Buy this book, in fact, buy the series! You won't be disappointed.

Jacob’s foundation for ex-convicts is kicking off. Unfortunately, at the same time, his railroad has major product thefts. Is it the ex-cons or is this just a coincidence? Mitzy of course becomes involved and picks up work in a dive bar to search for leads.

The is a fun new series. I love the characters. The story lines are always solid. You can start this now, but it’s the most fun it you start at the beginning.

Mitzy Moon once again stumbles across a crime going on in and around Pin Cherry. So with her way of always landing in the middle of trouble and her physic powers, can she get enough information on the gang who are doing robbery on the rails. Mitzy is also asked by Erick to help a friend of his to help find her little boy. This is a fast moving book and allow yourself the time to read it straight through as this one was impossible to put down.

2020 bk 226: Train robberies, in this day and age. Mitzy is pulled into the mystery of why her father's railroad cars have been targeted by thieves. With the FBI involved, and looking closely at her father and his foundation, Mitzy has to help. The sheriff and her father are not very happy that she is going undercover at a bar.... It takes a cat to save the day in this case. Perhaps my favorite Mitzy Moon mystery so far.

Train robbers in this day and age? Imagine that! Now, imagine Mitzi working undercover to find the thieves. Ms. Moon is a character and I love her. Along with her ghost-grandma and Pyewacket, Mitzi gets caught up the best mysteries. I love this series! This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
