Joi Briar despises Thursdays. Each one reminds her of her gut-wrenching, soul-clearing, crown-snatched heartbreak. If it weren't for the piece of heaven she found in the slices of chocolate cake served by a local boutique cafe and the morning wake up calls from her older sister, she'd keep her head under covers and drown in her days. That is, until the one day she enters the bake shop and meets a new kind of sweet. The kind that wakes her in the morning, infects her thoughts during the day, and feasts on her body at night.

Officer Nile Ledger is as handsome and determined as they come. He's on a mission to help heal the city of its strained relationship between community members and the police department. Not everyone, however, is on board with his idea of taking care of his people. But when he lays eyes on a woman whose mere glance carves her image onto his heart, he seeks her confirmation and finds himself swimming in her depths.

Take the journey with Joi and Nile as they fall into the deep. Stand behind them as they fight off their past lives for a chance at togetherness. Heal with them as they face fears, overcome danger, and throw caution to the wind for a taste of sugar.

The subject matter of this story was ripped from the headlines themed. And it was a love story. It was a nicely told story. A good read.

Delectable

A sweet romance indeed! Joi and Nile’s whirlwind romance was so intriguing to me. Letting go of the past started to become a big obstacle. But when love is in the air, there’s no stopping them arrows from flying. From the mouths of babes, Kitty’s dream/premonition sparked an instant wake up call to Joi. I feel in love with Nile. He was a man who knew what he wanted. So refreshing to read a sweet love story.
Absolutely loved this!!!!

Nilessssss can propose to me anytime!!!! He is the epitome of love and I want him lol. From the beginning he made me fall for him because of how much he adored Joi. The sweet menus pulled me in and how it followed Niles and Joi on their journey to love. This love story was so beautifully written, and I was not surprised. Phoenix you did the damn thing with this book, and I’m glad you took a chance with writing a romance novel.

Chocolate Does the Body Good!

I am in favor of any book centered around chocolate! Men or desserts, either one. LOL! The way this book started, I didn't think poor Joi was gonna make it. Her man was trash and his betrayal seemed to rock her to her core. Nile, on the other hand, was ready for something serious, so it was a done deal once Joi and Nile finally met. They just clicked and fit each other. Now they still had to deal with lingering annoyances, but they built up a steady, solid relationship that just got better over time. This was a sweet romance that was enjoyable to read! 5 🌟 Stars!

Sweet Thangs

“Whatever you need, Ms. Joi, I’d relocate heaven to get you there. That is, if you answer my call.” Honey, I died and came back to life after Nile spoke these words. This was such a beautiful story. Now, I'm ready to be in love for real and stuff. You did me proud Phoenix Ash. I was upset with you at the beginning of this book because of Caprice and Gordon's shady arses. Then, Liana made me want to pop her in her mouth, but you came through and cleaned all that stuff up. This was a sweet romance indeed. Officer Ledger can arrest me at any time, lol.

LOVED IT!

These hearts were hungry! Nile was ready to be all in and Joi wanted the same, but they both had baggage (Nile's was walking, talking and messy on the outside while Joi's was deeply rooted within). They both had the strongest forces of black love supporting them... their journey was about becoming what hey were surrounded by. Loved, loved loved Terrence and Camilla! I want them in my protect-the-love squad!

Very good read!

Okay, I really enjoyed reading Nile and Joi’s story!!! Literally one of the cutest love stories I’ve read. The love exuded from the pages of my kindle. Nile and Joi had chemistry; they just meshed and the author did a great job of painting this love story. The combination of sweets, coffee, and cocktails was different but it made the storyline that much better. I mean who doesn’t like coffee and chocolates! I truly enjoyed this one and can’t wait for the next one:)

Joi was in a relationship for two years and one day she walked in her live in boyfriend messing around with a student at her school. Now dealing with the break up she sulked for months until her niece said she missed the old Aunt Joi.
Nile was in a relationship with someone who didn't agree with his line of work and felt that they wouldn't work and broke it off.
Months later Joi and Nile meet at the neighborhood bakery and the chemistry was strong from the beginning. Nile was nervous and wasnt sure how to speak to Joi. Joi wasnt sure he was interest. When Nile finally the courage he asked for her number and than they went out on a date and it started a beautiful relationship. As Joi and Nile got to know each other there was an obstacle that stood in their way and giving Joi doubts, but when Nile made it clear, that it was all lies and he wanted to be with her.
This story was so beautiful. I loved to see the love blossoming between Nile and Joi, but also seeing Joi becoming a stronger person and standing up for herself when she needed to. I always love a great love sorry and this was well written. It was so sweet and the desserts seems like they would be so delicious!!!

Ok read

My first read from this author. I loved the fact that the author can write a book out using a lot of curse words which is rare these days. So kudos to her for that! Nile and Joi's journey to find love was a pretty interesting. To be honest I didn't really like Joi at all. I found her to be very immature for her age. Who allows your older sister to fight your battles. I loved Nile he was a true definition of a man knowing what he wanted and wouldn't settle for less. My only fault I have with him is he should've checked his ex the minute he received her first text message. Why didn't he just block her number? Terrence and Camilla I loved them the most because they went hard for their family.

So Sweet

This book was definitely a sweet treat! I love how you used dessert names throughout to show the love they had for each other. Whole time I was reading I wanted to take a bite out of Niles...or at least lick him. Definitely sweet read!

Loved it

I loved it reminds me that sometimes we can be so caught up in something that is not meant to be while our true soul mate is just waiting. He truly was a man after the heart I melted in the things he said to her. Oh my where is mine.

Slow start, strong finish

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the end more than the beginning, this story had a hard-to-follow start. The flow of it wasn't my favorite, but I enjoyed the sweet love story between Joi and Nile.

Good read

This was a good book about falling in love. I like them as a couple and just for who they were outside of each other. I love how her family was so protective
