درس الهندسة المعمارية في جامعة آخن و المصنفة رقم واحد بين الجامعات الألمانية. وحصل على دكتوراة في هندسة التخطيط الأقليمي والحضري من جامعة فينا في النمسا. عمل مديراً لدائرة التخطيط ومديراً لدائرة البيئة في وزارة البلديات و أشرف على إعداد الاستراتيجة البيئية للأردن وحالة البيئة في الأردن.
ثم عمل كبير مستشارين مع برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي وأشرف على إعداد الأستراتجية البيئية للكويت واستراتجية قطاع النفط، كما قدم دراسات في البيئة بتكليف من منظمات الأمم المتحدة لمعظم الدول العربية. كلف مع مجموعة من المستشارين الدوليين لإعداد هيكل لتقرير توقعات البيئة العالمية والتي تصدر عن برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة و كان أحد مدققي هذه الدراسة و أحد مراجعها ومراجعيها.
انتخب مقرراً عاماً لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة لدورتين متتاليتين.
حاور الرئيس الأمريكي الأسبق كارتر و الرئيس معمر القذافي والملك غوستاف ملك السويد الذي منحه وسام القائد لأنشطته البيئية.
وشارك عام (2010 ) مع فريق من العلماء العرب بإعداد تقرير ( توقعات البيئة العربية ) وذلك بإشراف برنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة UNEP و جامعة الدول العربية.

كما عمل مديرا لتحرير سلسلة كتب عالم البيئة التي تصدر عن مؤسسة جائزة زايد الدولية للبيئية. وقد صدر عنها خلال إدارته ثلاثة عشرة كتابا.

له مواقف واضحة ومساهمات فاعلة في الصحافة والأعلام العربي حول عدد من القضايا الساخنة مثل: مفاعل ديمونه، المفاعلات النووية العربية، وأسلحه اليورانيم المستنفد، والأمن المائي العربي، قناة البحرين. وتغير المناخ والتعاون الأردني الإسرائيلي وغيرها،أدخلته السجن واستمرت محاكمته لخمس سنوات.

يمتلك ويدير المركز الدولي للتخطيط والبيئة في عمان.

Dr. Engineer Sufyan Tell has studied Architecture in Aachen University- Germany, and graduated in 1967. Completed PhD Programme in Regional and Urban Planning at Wien University, Austria in 1971.

Worked as Director of Planning and Environment Directorates and supervised the preparation of the National Environment Strategy of Jordan and the State of the Environment in Jordan.

Represented Jordan for 9 years at the United Nations Environment Programme Executive Council and was elected as rapporteur general for two consecutive cycles 1989-1991.

Worked as senior consultant to the United Nations Development Programme UNDP and supervised the preparation of the National Environment Strategy and the Oil Sector Strategy in Kuwait. Conducted studies in planning and environment at the request of UN agencies for many Arab countries

Was assigned, together with a group of international consultants to prepare a framework for the Global Environment Outlook report issued by UNEP and was one of the editors of the first issue of this study (serving as resource person and reviewer).

Met and exchanged dialogue with Ex. US President Carter, President Qaddafi and King Gustav of Sweden who awarded him the Insignia of Commander of the Royal Swedish Order of the Polar Star.

Worked as Chief Editor of the Environment World Book series issued by Zayed International Award Foundation, with 13 books published until now.


Significantly contribute to Arab media on several hot issues such as Daimona nuclear reactor, Arab nuclear reactors, depleted uranium arms and Arab water security

Worked with a group of Arab consultants to prepare an Arab Environment Outlook report under the auspices of UNEP, the League of Arab States and CEDARE, expected to be issued by beginning

Owns and runs the International Centre for Planning and Environment in Amman.
