Britain Defeated
What would have happened if Germany invaded Britain in September 1940? This is one of the greatest 'what ifs' of World War Two. In Britain Defeated follow the stories of different individuals as they live through Operation Seelowe and its aftermath. Experience the fighting through the eyes of a young Home Guard soldier, an American flying for the RAF and a German officer as they try and survive the invasion. What will be the fate of England and how will the battle affect the ongoing conduct of the largest conflict in human history?

Enjoyable summer reading
By this time I have read a dozen of Mr. Kerr's novels, many of which span a period of years or even decades. Imagine my surprise then when I finished this novel to discover it covers a grand total of thirty days and only the first twenty are in any detail. The last chapter at day thirty s almost an afterword telling of the immediate consequences of the cease fire agreed to on day twenty.
I also found it a bit of a shock when one of the major characters suddenly feels the need to describe his Jewish heritage on day Twenty without so much as a hint of his faith being a factor at any earlier point in the novel.
Naturally I want to know how the story goes from here so I will buy the sequel when it arrives, something I have not done with every series Mr. Kerr has written, but in fairness I have finished most of the ones I started. His skills as an author have improved with each novel including this one.

Not a bad start
I can see some if this as viable but other parts…
Goering dying before the book starts id a good move.
Probably will read book two and if it continues semi-rationally maybe more.

I enjoy alternative history and this book was a superb "what if" . Exciting action and a very good story. I recommend this book highly.

Almost History.
More then a "what if." This story is a could have been. Characters are realistic living people. Technology is rock solid.

A quick and easy read
Yes, this is fiction and the author does mention supply problems the Nazis were having. However, I think he underestimates how much fuel and ammunition a mechanized force consumes whole in contact, not to mention how much artillery rounds would be expended (which are heavily and bulky).
