Parenting the Screenager by Richard Hogan
🎮👦🏻👧🏻

It’s that time of year where we hit reset and plough into new year and new beginnings 😆

I first heard the author of this book Richard Hogan speak on RTE Radio 1 on a segment before Christmas advising how to manage Christmas with family . It stopped me in my tracks as his advise was practical and achievable . He firmly believes that saying no is okay and that kids rarely remember the exact gifts they receive when they are adults .They tend to remember the “feeling ,the vibe the connection .. the rituals…

This books hits on current topics of online bullying , building levels of communication , online pornography , the minefield that is gaming and most importantly boundaries . He stresses the importance of boundaries for children and how they shape and mould them in later life .

It’s a very quick read at just over 125 pages with lots of reminders and anecdotes that will help any parent of teens in the years to come . Richard has many years of experience of working with teens as a teacher and lecturer He is also a practising Family Psychotherapist. He is very relatable and I will certainly be on the lookout for future segments on the radio . He’s a rock of sense .

Incidentally …my kids were not impressed when certain passwords were changed and updated when they returned home from school . All within reason of course 😇😀
