Tower of Power #4

The Great Raid

Rate this book
Into the Tower!

Morgan and his friends won the right to be a part of an expedition to the Tower of Power. Part of a raid group that was led by two Great Guilds, and had the intention of conquering the Tower. But, no one who had ventured beyond the third floor had ever returned. Adventuring might be a dangerous profession, and ascended might encounter death at every turn, but there is a reason why most do not attempt to climb the Tower. For most ascended going into the Tower is a risk not worth taking, in opinions of some, it was equal to suicide. But there were a few who still dreamed of something more than pointless living.

Preparations for the attempt to climb the Tower begin, led by some of the most powerful ascended in the world. But Morgan and his friends still had a lot to learn before they were strong enough to survive the first floor.

Attempting to climb the Tower took more than just will, it required training and planning. And Morgan and his friends needed to learn how to work with the rest of the ascended in the raid group if they were to have a chance to survive.

In the end, there was only one truth, and the Tower revealed who an ascended truly was. The Tower would show them if they were worthy of gaining greater power.

Author's note:

This book series is part of KalVerse. All of my books take place inside a shared multiverse, and some characters crossover from series to series. But it is not required for you to read all the series in order to understand what is happening, each series has its own set of characters and a storyline which is contained inside of that series.

Great continuation of the series

I continue to enjoy this series. The author does a good job of focusing on the right things and skipping "the grind". We're left with a bunch of very fun training montage-style parts of the book and a fast paced story.

I don't know how he plans to combine all his series as part of what he claims is the Kalverse, but will be interesting to see.

Excellent book!

This book is well deserving of a 5 star rating. It continues the overall story well, and focuses on the character development of the protagonist, the element of which Ivan has got near perfect in this series!

My only annoyance comes from the lack of understanding and teases of the multimeter spread throughout, but this is a personal issue and one that stems from my desire to devour all of Mr Kal's series!

Another good book

Ivan's books are all good. Some are better than others. This is one of his best. He has a high output so we won't have to wait forever for the next one.

3 That I Wake Stars

The Great Raid is the fourth installment into the LitRPG series Tower of Power by Ivan Kal.

Not only maybe the shortest book in the series but also the most disappointing. It didn’t have the consistent draw the rest of Tower of Power offered. Basically started falling off as soon as they stepped into the Tower. Perhaps my expectations were simply too high? I kept waiting for the series to reach farther, where only the second book seemed to have any true potential. Disappointing.

There were also some appalling grammatical errors and the writing is nowhere near on par with what Ivan has presented previously.

They only conquer the first level. Act entirely surprised when people actually die. The awaited scene near the end of the book with Moirai finally accomplishing a connection with Morgan was upsetting, and entirely too simple? It all became so rote. Supplying merely the basic necessities to attain a beginning, middle, and end, then essentially giving up.

I was a little reassured about the possible potential for the fifth book following this. With the epilogue showing Vollara and Rainor at least surviving. Underwhelmed. Let down. Hopes crushed. This book made me cranky. *big sad*

Still a good series. Not my favorite since this one deals with a much larger group that has entered the tower. I prefer the smaller group tactics or the one-on-one fights from the previous books. It is hard to keep track of the action when there are so many people involved. Also, I only really care about a few characters. This had to happen though, so I can't complain too much. On to the next book.

I really don't remember what came before in this series - even after finishing this book. I remember the not-god in a wet suit. Had that not been mentioned in the first few pages, I would have concluded I had bookmarked the wrong series, and moved on to something else.

This is why I really wish we could get a recap page or 5 once you get past book 3.

I mean, what does it mean if I forget about a symbiote forearm / hand? I've read a lot recently, and a lot of it has been litrpg, but that seems like it should have stood out.

That said, it was an entertaining book. I feel like I've been re-introduced enough to the characters to add the next book to the queue. Let's see when I make it up it in the queue and what I remember from this one....

The same formula of other books, pacing, character, plot. Not much changing in it except for a little progress regarding MC. By now my issue with the series is that some decisions from 'The Great lord' regarding the whole experiment make little to no sense, the way he keeps information from flowing into the world restricts a lot his endgame. Now the author has some missed opportunities with the ability’s and skills he has been giving to the characters, in some there is a hint for an impressive direction to take it, but somehow it is regarding in a different path. Hope the next book properly deliver the extent of the Tower and the path to traverse.

Book four of the Tower of Power series. The author continues to make this series new by exploring different areas of character advancement. It is great that now the team has entered the tower and we begin to see what the story has been promising. To be honest the tower scenes felt a bit rushed like there was not enough room to the end to go further in depth so it glazed over some of the significant quests and just focused on the few end boss fights. Overall a satisfying read. The recommendation for this series has to have the caveat of course language. Outside of this an accomplished worked and a fun read.

Good RPG progression.

It's time for our heroes to graduate from group dungeon dives (and magical tournaments) to raiding. There's relatively little that happens in the grand scheme in this book, it's more of small events, progression, background information (seeing the MC from the The Eternal Path series show up as a floor boss is a fun idea).

There's still a major character progression at one point, or the book would be a filler, but that's probably enough for a short book like most of the series.

Excellent continuation of the series with great pacing, action, and progress to the story line and a great setup for the next one. If you have enjoyed the series you will love this one and everything points to the next one being even better. This is also a place where we have more of a unique Litrpg system in place with deeper understanding of the whole Kalverse/Metaverse. If you have read his other books you will notice some nice Easter eggs and references here and there that do not make reading the other books a requirement but a very nice enhancement of your enjoyment of the series.

Solid. We've got large-group tactics and prep to enter the Tower of Power, but I think it really shone after they entered and cleared the first level. It's rather a huge tower. :)

I'm a bit surprised that everyone has to be such high levels to have either a breakthrough or to survive the Tower, in comparison to other LitRPG series, but that's okay. This will never be my favorite but it is, after all, solid.

I don't like dungeons in progression fantasy books, since they undermine any narrative continuity. Opponents are just there to be killed and conquered, no moral calculus required. Yes, the real characters can get hurt or killed or be betrayed, but mostly dungeons are there for characters merely to grind through as a means to level up. This story is mostly dungeon diving. They get stronger--the end.

Nice continuation to the story, and absolutely looking forward to the next one in the series. Nice job here folks, if you're an LitRPG fan, then this series should probably be on your bookshelf. It's not the best LitRPG out there, but it has plenty of the things that make the stories enjoyable, and that's definitely something that makes it worth reading.

Antler Bear....no thank you

A journey, a new heart, a deeper connection, and a truth known but now confirmed. This book was one of sorrow and triumphs, one of defeats and victories, this book made the connections more profound and the bonds stronger. The story was great and the promise of more even greater.

The story continues!

I can't believe just how good this series has been so far. I've been absolutely captivated. The time jumps, though necessary, do cause you to lose out on some of the character growth, but it does not take anything away from the story at large. This has been such a great addition to the series and I'm really excited for the next one!

Great series

About halfway through here now, and I am wrapped up in the story. With the exception of numerous grammatical errors and several obvious typos, the writing is imaginative and engaging. The author just needs a better proofreading program to make this series truly epic.

This is the best book yet in this series. It still needs copyediting, but the characters are not as flat and there's actual character development. The plot is primarily quest grinding, but there are also more indications of what the metaplot might be turning into.

I still can't really recommend this series for a general audience, but it has become better than just filler.

Another good one

Follows along with good action and enjoyable RPG elements. The action is fast paced and continuous without over powering the story line or trying to be the whole story fast leveling coupled with explanation though not of the upper power levels yet.

Really good story, but annoyed at what I see as short minded choices

Really seriously miffed he gave up enchanting and engraving, I can see ways those skills would still evolve and be useful, but going to stick with it at least one book longer

Morgan, V&V, Clara and all the rest complete the first floor of the tower.

Morgan meets Oxy's wife who no one else knows is awake, not even Oxy.
The twins' parents take a deal to become part of the tower so they can see their kids again.

Tower book

Good story that advances the plot to the name of the series - climbing the tower. I liked previous books and world building but glad to get to the main event

Spelling and grammar are still quite poor. A competent proof-reader is needed! Other than that, an enjoyable tale set in an established universe.
