Daring and brilliant—Conversion is a true masterpiece! Misty Walker regales us with a forbidden tale of love in the midst of a social war. She makes us feel for the characters, even when some are heavily flawed. With her well-written words, she weaves a tale that sucks the emotion out of us, drags us through some stressful situations, and has us begging for a happy ending. Five LOVE IS BLIND Stars!

This story... damn this story... It has a message that needs to be told. I'm glad that author didn't shy away from the hard parts. It was utterly beautiful and somewhat painful. It was a story that was unique and it had to be told. No question. The characters, Gunner and Tiana, were amazing. They made me feel like really bleeping feel. I was so deeply invested in how their relationship was going to go. I was worried that one or the other weren't going to make it. And man... I love the way Gunner loved Tiana. Oh hell... I loved the way Tiana loved Gunner. He used to be a young boy that didn't get any love. He didn't have any one in his corner. For once, he had someone. He had his girl each and every step of the way. Their journey was long but it was worth it. Damn... it was worth it. I'm choking up while writing this. This author got me. She really did.

▪️This is the first book of this author, which I read and after what I experienced during the reading it is certainly not the last!

▪ The book begins with the childhood of #Ganner, a boy who grew up with Dad Psychopath who is also the leader of the Neo-Nazi Parties
Dad, who takes a small child and tries to make him the future leader of the movement.

▪ My heart is torn by what Ganner has been through.
I admit that I had a hard time reading the deeds and descriptions of what this party is doing.
Later, Destiny wanted (leaving you to read how) and Ganner met Tiana.

▪️ # #Tiana is a beautiful and dark-skinned girl. # Ganner is the son of the neo-Nazi partiesl leader.
And they fall in love.
The storm around the story of their love is burning and many turns and struggles are impossible.

▪ This is a different and unique book, one that kicks hard in the heart.
The story sweeps, engages and touches on social issues that are still relevant, issues that exist in our society.

▪ What is my opinion on the book ?
must read!!!!!

It is impossible to remain indifferent to this story.
In my opinion this is a book especially worth translating! To Hebrew🌹

This isn’t your typical forbidden romance. It is THE forbidden romance. Filled with trials and tribulations from the beginning.

Misty Walker takes us down the path of a very real issue we still deal with in today’s world.

Tiana and Gunner’s love was amazing to see develop and flourish despite all the obstacles thrown their way. The passion between the two was one of a kind. They fought immensely to find themselves and each other. Their HEA was one well and beyond deserved.

I really enjoyed this books and the anxiety it gave me, lol.

Omg!

I love ...I mean love..really love this book. Omg the emotions that was pulled out of me...it was realistic and touched on a very good subject. Gunn was definitely not a product of his environment and I loved Tiana for sticking with him and not running for the hill like most people would have probably done if was put in that situation. I finish this book in two days. That was how good it was. Started Friday and finish yesterday afternoon. Just couldn’t leave a review until today. Will definitely read more books from this author.

A wonderfully written romance story given the sensitive subject of racism. Tiana and Gunner come from two totally different worlds and upbringings, and their story is one that, in many ways, could be so realistic. I felt for both of these characters while they endured the wrath from Gunner’s father and his way of life. Misty Walker definitely delivered a tough subject romance story that was not only heartfelt but at the same time she gave us a tough subject and made me love these characters!

I absolutely loved this one! I loved the taboo aspect of this book. The characters were wonderful and more open minded then most in the world. Gun proved that you don't always turn into your parents and that you can break the cycle and live a happy, beautiful life. I can't wait to read more from this author!

"𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳."

A couple of years ago in my Wattpad-obsessed era, I read a book with the racist falls in love with a poc trope for the first time. I don't remember all the details but I remember really enjoying it. After completing this book, I still don't know how I feel about that as the main trope of romance novels.

With that being said, I'll just list my thoughts as they come:
- Going in, the primary make or break factor of this book was the white author's execution of the woc representation. I must say that it's decent. My only dislike was the light brown eyes of the h, if you're writing about a black woman please go all out and make her appearance like the majority of black women.
- The dad character was a bit much and began to sound unrealistic at times.
- I enjoyed the author's writing style. In spite of all the drama and gore, Gun and T's romance had such a warm a cozy feel to it. I loved their chemistry from their very first encounter as teenagers.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, and it was a great first impression of the author for me.

Another enjoyable read with all the feels. I loved the development between the main character Tiana and Gunner, whose love overshadowed the hatred surrounding them. A story that was heartfelt and grabbed me from the start.

I listen to this on audio and honestly would have enjoyed listening to this more if the female narrator didn’t sound like Spike from Tom&Jerry every time she did the male part. Besides that, this was a good romance story with no, absolutely no breakups at the 70% mark lol. So glad to have another author I can add to my go-to list.

Happy Reading Friends!

A beautifully written story of friendship and love can blossom in turmoil of hate and prejudice, Conversion bring me to tear at the end.
It's not ugly heartbroken tear. On the contrary. It's happy tears. It's hope of beautiful dream that love would always conquer no matter what.
This is not taboo romance.
For me, the author speak deeper than how different and "not suppose to be" the characters are.
Conversion is about the purity of love

This was fascinating, and the message was really beautiful. I'm glad it didn't linger in certain aspects, and the angst for the relationship was surprisingly low.

Tiana was an angel and so kind and understanding.

However, so of the background plot was... not super fleshed out and felt very rushed at the end.

Lovely romance though!

This book was my first read from Misty Walker, and I loved it. It's one of those stories, that stay with you for a long time, if not, it remains forever imprinted in your memory. It's totally different from the typical rich, successful playboy, less fortunate girl, cliché romance novel; this one is real, raw, and it's dealing with a lot of this day in ages serious problems, racism, hate crimes, violence, mental and physical abuse. It's also about healing, compassion, acceptance, strength and love. I think I went through all human emotions, while reading it. I was scared, and in tears, because I felt pain for the little boy, Gunnar. We went through so much, he was alone in a horrible environment, and even though he felt that everything was wrong he couldn't escape. I admired the 20 year old Tiana, who was strong, and quite mature for her age. I laughed, because of the nutter room mate, Lucy, who always lightened the mood every time she appeared. And I HATED Gunnar's scum of the Earth, monster father. Gun meeting T. is a huge turning point. They have an instant connection, which only grows with time. They were so cute together I was swooning. I was rooting for them, and I saw the change in Gunnar. The environment he grew up in, made him believe he was evil, that he had a dark soul, and that he didn't deserve love. But Tiana saw the good in him, from the very beginning, and he became stronger with every passing day, and the more time he spent with T. Then things happened, scary, painful things, ( yes I had stupid, sad, tears in my eyes ) and even though everyone was sceptical about their relationship, they stuck together through everything. In the end, Tiana's love, the love he felt for T. in return, gave Gunnar the strength he needed, to break free, and the way he did it, surprised me, and made me clap my hands. Then, thanks to the epilogue there were swoony, happy tears too. You will not regret picking this book up and reading it.
Quotes:
" Despite how you were raised, and by who, you have good in you. It's time for you to see it for yourself, and what better way then by me remind you every chance I get. "
"Having her approval, her friendship, means more to me than anything else I have in my life. It feels like conversion. It feels like hope, but mostly it just feels really really good. "
"Tiana is the light to my darkness, the shine to my dullness, the calm to my chaos."
"Asking an angel to brighten my dark soul would suck the light from her and cause her to dim. I don't want that for her. She deserves to shine."
" I'm asking a lot from this girl. To love me beyond my past, love beyond my imperfections, and to love me beyond all judgement. It's not something I ever even thought was a possibility, but she's here. Loving me despite it all."
"Gunnar, I don't know how many times you are going to try and push me away and how many times I have to assure you that I'm not going anywhere, but let me tell you again. Maybe you can try and believe me this time. I love you and that love doesn't have exceptions. It doesn't have an expiration date and it doesn't have a limit. I love you scarred. I love flawed. I love you through the scary times and through the happy times. We're a team and I can't live this life as half a person. I need you in order for me to be whole."

You know those kind of stories where you can tell they're going to be amazing? Just from reading the blurb, I knew I was going to read something powerful. What this author did with this book was deliver such an emotionally charged book about race, survival, forgiveness and soul-searching.

Gunner was raised by a white supremacist father, but even at a young age he knew he didn't believe in the same things. His whole childhood is about surviving, surviving, surviving in the face of hate and adversity. His backstory is wrought with so much despair that my heart wanted to reach through the pages and embrace him.

When Gunner meets Tiana, it's under the most unfortunate circumstances. Yet it's almost as if their fates collided just as it was meant to be. I loved how they found friendship through adversity, fellowship through adversity, and love through adversity.

Tiana was such a badass heroine. She's fighting the good fight, doing her best to break down racial inequalities through grassroots movements and protests. She's young, impressionable, yet full of fire. When she meets Gunner, she's reluctant to judge him based on face value. Against her own family's wishes, she befriends a man that she thinks represents all which she hates. She asked for a slow and steady friendship to form, and easily grows to acknowledge that Gunner who she first assumed he would be.

I love how this author introduced us to each of their own truths throughout the story. Tiana and Gunner were two souls searching for their true mate, and their love story was raw, powerful, and beyond beautiful.

Tiana is my person!!

I have no words to describe how good this book was. Being from the South there is a lot of racism. Tiana is my hero!! She stood by Gunner through every hate filled act done to them. Her love never wavered. Gunner oh Gunner how I love you!! You persevered and came out on top. Misty you are one heck of a writer!!! 5 stars!!!!

"It's not a gentle first kiss (or first meeting); it's rough and demanding"
Tianna-and-Gunner

This story hit several of my getaway-romance markers: IR, forbidden romance, possessive male, and the you-own-me type of love.
It also covered some adequate depth without being long-winded (though, for these characters, I could have stood more "story").
ArtStation - My Happy Place, Meg Viola

My reluctance to listen to this as an audiobook came from the fact that this story was shorter than I would have liked and reviews gave slight criticism of the female narrator. However, M. Brehon was an okay narrator, maybe just not the embodiment of Tianna, IMO, and I liked A. Shedlock (Gunner's voice). So, win-win.

OVERALL, I would re-listen to this story or even re-read.
Crazy Right GIFs | Tenor
Any criticism, again, falls into the fact that the author could have added more in secondary character development, or even rounded some of the rough edges of Gunner's and Tianna's ...motivations; they come off as forbidden & star-crossed, more than anything, but they are also written with some potentially poignant personality bents that could have proven more engrossing, if explored in other ways besides being "in their own little world.
description
"Forget the careers, futures...life. Just let this kiss go on."

In the end, this gets 4 stars because I got into this story. Yes, there were one or two holes in the plot. Despite this, both the chemistry and the formula worked.

I just wanted more in the aftermath: more, because with this one, the story had the potential to evolve with the story development, involving the people that this couple helped after they embarked on their new journey or the setting, which provided realism. Additionally, the premise and character traits highlighted by Walker could easily allow a continuing story that is enjoyable and worthy, but there's fat chance of that happening. This might be a one-hit-wonder for me. LOL

Waste of Money

The plot for tbe story was good, but I didn't like this book. Tiana and her family were too stereotypical. All those "strong" black women and no good black man in sight? Many black couples do get married and many black children are raised by a married mother and father living in the same home. And of course Tiana and Gunner have hot explicit sex ALL the time. They claim to love each other but love and screwing are not the same thing. There is nothing tender, loving, or gentle about their lovemaking. It's vulgar and graphic. So absurd! And of course Tiana follows in her mother's and grandmother's footsteps and has a baby out of wedlock. So stereotypical! I probably sound like a prude, but it infuriates me when I read BWWM romance novels that are full of vulgar sex and stereotypical black women. Black women are more than fatherless, single mother, sex kittens who can only communicate romantic love through sex and vulgar language. Give me a break!! I really want my money back, Amazon!!!

I understand the concept of the story and I did feel sorry for Gunner because of what he went through, but I just didn’t vibe with this. I honestly felt like Tiana had damsel in distress syndrome because their relationship wasn’t that in depth to me, it was very surface level. For a POC to really overcome Gunner’s very very disgusting and racist past there should’ve been way more conversations and gaining of trust between them. You don’t get over that history because you’re saved and you hang out and talk for a few weeks. White supremacy is a huge problem that takes lives, so regardless if you’re forced into it or not it’s not that easily forgotten. Tiana just “fell in love” and trusted Gunner SO fast based on a few conversations, LOL…unrealistic and a slap in the face for POC who have been hurt by white nationalism.

So everyone woman in tiana’s family don’t know/ had the father split. I’m side eyeing the fact that the author felt the need to go this way especially since having any of the men still present wouldn’t have taken anything away from the story.

I don’t get why Tiana never once meant Astro or hinted that he could exist. The way Tiana cut Astro out was weird. And for Gun. Mmkay

Gunner gets the sob story back story and yes he saved tiana but it doesn’t erase the hate crimes he’s committed. I knew I’d feel this way, not sure why I read a book on this topic

This audio book was purchased when I read that the author was ashamed of this book (although now I can’t find the post) but I genuinely loved this book!
Yes it’s taboo, but that’s what made the read so good! I won’t give away any of the book, but I would personally highly recommend reading/ listening to this book.
