The Resurrected is a Bladerunner-esque comic book mini-series about redemption, the acceptance of our mortality and about how far one Aboriginal-Australian detective would go to save his people from almost certain extinction.
Christian Carnouche is an Australian working at an international organisation in NYC, after spending almost a decade and a half in Europe.
He is the writer/creator of the comic book mini-series THE RESURRECTED, the anthology MURKY WATERS, and the graphic novel, SYDNEY TO TUNIS, which will be published in July 2024 by Fairsquare Comics.
He is also pitching his first literary novel: Nineteen Ninety Nine: a philosophical coming of age story set in Sydney in the late 1990s.
Christian has a background in philosophy and criminology; two subjects which he explores in his works.
The Resurrected is one of those stories you don't expect to read very soon. The main character is an Australian Aboriginal who goes on a quest to save his people. The story is set in the future with heaps of awesome technology and a hint of spiritualism.
I loved the book for it's honesty when it comes to the past of Aboriginal people and I loved the turns the book took. I didn't see some things coming, others I did, but it was never predictable, never boring. In the end it's the story about a man finding himself, and no matter what you're into, that makes this a story worth reading.
Plus, the art is beautiful; light and vibrant or dark and gritty when it needs to be.
It's the first book by an indie writer, but man, what a book! Pick it up when you have a chance.
