One dress. One dance. Lucia has one chance to change her life—and the lives of her family. But Sebastian Conti is no prince charming. He's a dangerous man. When the clock strikes midnight, he'll determine her fate.
Really 3.5 stars. Quick novella somewhat based on the classic fairy tale idea of a modern day Cinderella. Daughter of a mafia don, ending up in dire circumstances at a young age and unable to escape here prison like situation.
I think I would have enjoyed more of the backstory and how the young woman, Lucia ended up where she did and why along more details about Sebastian, the 'prince' type character. Maybe it will be developed at some point into a more substantial novel length but if not, it was quick read, but underdeveloped as it was very short.
But...I appreciate that it was a free to me novella as a newsletter subscriber and I thank the author, who's work I've always enjoyed for putting it out there.
Super over the top and ridiculous, ending was super rushed and I wasn’t a huge fan of the female narrator. Didn’t hate it, my first Read Me Romance book.
this was just ... weird. i didn't like the use of a fucking sweatshop as a plot point and also the ending was so rushed and the smut wasn't even worth it????? wtf.
Title: Mafia Cinderella Author: Skye Warren Format: Audio Narrators: Lauren Sweet and Matthew Maddux Genre: Romantic Suspense Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: I don't think so POV: Lucia and Sebastian Steam Level: Slow Burn 4/5
I listened to this book on the Read Me Romance podcast. Mafia Cinderella is a short, dark novella. Mafia Cinderella definitely kept me listening to the very end. The ending, though, was a bit abrupt and I definitely want an epilogue.
I like the first part of the book, but then when I listen to the 2nd part of the book I thought I skipped one part because the story in the second part was so rushed.
3⭐️’s : I had the strangest sense of déjà vu with this book, and even though I couldn’t catch the where, how or why—it was so freakin’ familiar I couldn’t shake the feeling. (Was it once part of an anthology, maybe?? Ugh! Bloody frustrating “old lady” brain! LOL.)
Annnnyway, even though the book is impeccably written, the language intelligent, the characters, scenery and emotion vividly poignant, this dark mafia twist on an old fairytale was pretty good, it just wasn’t my personal flavour of smutty romance.
Even if it turns out I have read it twice. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤣
Skye Warren has many short novellas in her repertoire. Some of them work brilliantly. Others not so much. This one belongs to the latter. Sadly, this story just felt rushed. There was some build-up at the beginning with potentially interesting characters but in the end, it was all rushed, the ending was over the top dramatic and just beyond anything somewhat realistic. It bugged me. There are definitely better short novellas by this author.
This was a modern day Cinderella. It was cute. I love a good cinderella story, and what I loved about this one was, I didn't have to wait long for the ending the parts everyone already knows will eventually happen. So that was nice. I have a hard time with some fairytale retellings when they too closely follow the original, I get bored. It was nice that this was such a short story for that reason.
Mafia Cinderella is seven chapters. 2 stars. Meet Lucia a young girl serving her time in a textile factory. She’s protective of the other girls willing to sacrifice herself for their safety. These instant romances are too brief to adequately rate. In the limited amount of words I wasn’t blown away by the story. It was okay.
Really good plot idea! I loved that, but it was too quick and I've been missing some interactive parts between hero and heroine. The would definitely deserve more scenes. The end was basically not full, no epilogue, why?!
Listened on RMR podcast. Sebastian has gone to visit one of his factories and meets Lucia but she won't give him any info. Lucia sneaks out and ends up at one of his formal fundraisers and when he sees her, he knows he wants her. She only wants to make sure her friends are safe.
Oh, a delicious little bite to whet your appetite. Lucia has been held captive for years, held in a workhouse, sewing. Her world takes a turn when Sebastian stumbles into her life.
I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
This is one of those short stories where the reader would like the story to be longer. Some details go without explanation.
There was a factory with only women. Two of them, sisters, manage everything, Mercedes and Margo. The others worked in a subhuman regime and were forced to be prostitutes. Only one of them, Lucia, stayed at night in a different place. She was the daughter of someone important in mafia who had been murdered. There was no escape for either of them.
Until Lucia was taken to pretend to be Mercedes and Margo's secretary. Sebastian Conti, interested in the factory, went to visit and know everything. He wanted to talk to the employees, but that was not allowed.
The story then skips to a party, in which Lucia appears all beautiful in gold dress and shoes, asking Sebastian to save them all.
The plot is interesting, but as I said, it deserved a longer book to dispel doubts and make the story richer. 4 stars
