The Infernal Council wants me out of the picture, and those that I thought I could trust are making me question everything.
To make matters worse, a new threat might end us all.
If we survive, can I overcome the new obstacles in my life, or will they destroy me?
Defuse is book two in the Infernal Council series. It is a continuation of Infuse. This novel is full length and reverse harem. It contains multiple POVs.
Fast burn, 18+ recommended Male/Male Foul language
Just tell me be good reason why I shouldn't yell at the author. The ending was too illegal. The sex scenes were perfect. The pick up lines were on point. And don't get me started when the sweetest parts made me cry and ball. This book made me stay up all night, just waiting to see what would come next. So that's my take on the book. It was AMAZING!!!!
4 stars. I did not know how far along I was in the book until it abruptly ended.
This was good. But I feel like I still can’t give my full opinion on this book because it didn’t feel like a complete book. It feels like the middle of one book that was split into three.
So I’m just gonna continue on to the next and give a full review on the third.
Omg! I seriously love this book.It picks right up where book 1 left off, stays right on the plot, has great character development.
Samara is definitely in the top 5 of my favorite female characters of all time. This book really develops her character really well, as well as her relationships with her men (and the men’s development as well).
IT ENDS IN ONE OF THE BIGGEST CLIFFHANGERS / PLOT TWIST EVER! Can’t wait until book 3!! Like, seriously, I don’t want to wait.
So without saying spoilers...... Something happened that I was so excited about!!! I really loved this book! The dynamic between the characters has grown and evolved into something great.....with one exception and we know who that is. I am hoping though that it gets resolved in the best way for them. Cant wait for the next book!
This book burns so fast. I spent most of the night up reading this book. I could not put it down. I loved every moment of this book. The hippo joke made me almost wake up my husband who was sleeping next to me. I am so torn with Val in this book. I know he loves Samara, but he is going about it all the wrong ways. I can't wait until book three is released.
Love this authors work. I recommend reading the academy books followed by widow then this series. Just so one isn’t lost about the characters. These can be read as a separate series but book two follows book one so it’s key that book one is read first.
This book picks up right where book one ends. But it’s a pleasure to read this book! I can’t wait for the next instalment
2 & 1/2 stars rounded up. A new reader definitely needs to start with book 1, or will be totally lost. I enjoyed book 1 way more than book 2 (this book). Other people may enjoy this book, but it just wasn't for me. This book seemed to just drag on, and lose my interest several times, enough to think about quitting the book, or to put it down & take a break. I kept on, because I hoped it would pick up. The flow was incredibly slow, slow enough I thought I was never going to finish, and there just wasn't hardly much going down in this book to keep my interest. The relationship between the guys seemed to progress, in a weird sort of way, to more of a camaraderie (for the most part) seeing as the guys all hated each other as they first became a group. But suddenly with out much prodding on Sammie's part, they seemed to be working together & less hateful. The sexual encounters seemed more for shock value than to show a loving relationship amongst the RH as a total, & there weren't as many sex scenes as I would have thought considering they all seem to think about it a lot in this book. Most of the guys attitudes seemed to be all about lust/sexual attraction towards Sammie, not about actually being/falling in love with her. There's always a fine line with RH, and more often than not, cross into just about the "sex" than actually building relationships as a whole, this book fell into that trap I think. I don't know, as a whole, things were just boring for me in this book. I definitely won't be continuing with the series.
Defuse is the second book in the Infernal Council series by Maya Nicole.
The writing: Seemed slightly better in some places, but the swinging back and forth between smooth and disruptive instances only served to further jumble the readers enjoyment.
The plot: What even was that ending? It definitely left me blindsided, and didn’t seem to hold any correspondence to any previous happenings throughout this second book. All of the big reveals fell somewhat flat. Either being heavily expected or too far detached from the rest of the work.
The men: Val is becoming more confusing, especially with the final moments in this book. Probably the most distanced character within the main party. Kage has definitely ingrained himself within that of our core characters. I feel as if he’s the one mate I understand the most, given the insight into his past master. Raphael has somehow managed not to distinguish himself from the others, rather falling to almost only expected characteristics for a harem male and nothing more. Maybe his and Sammy’s blinding light shows being the only moment of true interest. Somewhat disappointing, given my high hopes for the new to love Angel he presented as in the last installment. Nico was definitely a shining star for this book. With his near fatal scare at the beginning of this work, and the further insight into his powers. As well as opening up to the necessities that loving Samara and her men brings. Amari fell somewhat back to the background as well. Really only truly emphasized within his relationship to Val among these pages.
The sex scenes are honestly becoming annoying, with their increasing insurgence. Along with the plot filling with holes, it’s making this series seem less and less poignant and full on smut-worthy.

I found it very difficult to read 😑 There’s not really much of a story - if 1st book didn’t end on a cliffhanger, I wouldn’t have read it. I mean, one of the guys goes MIA and she says “distract me” so she has sex with 3 of them 😳 Its all about lust - there’s no real relationship. One was her attended husband, one is her best friend, one is lover of her former attended, and 2 just dropped into it seemingly by accident. Sorry, but this was not well thought out. Where is the relationship? And then to explain the sex drive suddenly she thinks she’s a succubus. How is that possible when the angel had taken her to wherever it was just to have sex? 😂 no, this feels like “let’s have multiple males and her have sex and try and fit some sort of story around it all” I have huge reservations around reading anything else of the author. Am not prudish so it’s not about the sex (which mind you has some mm scenes), it’s about the fact that there is no story and the relationships are not there... the guys are there purely out of lust. And I have never heard of a shifter that has 3 forms: male, animal and gorgon. 🤷♀️
My absolute favorite part of theses books is how quick and fast paced they are, it totally doesn't take that long to read them which means you can read more of them quicker. Sammy is such an interesting , and I really wanna learn more about her powers I mean more than we did throughout this. On the other hand the guys I just love and I loved how we learn more and more about them as we went along, I also love how they are slowly bonding with each other and becoming more comfortable with each other. Overall this was a good addition to this series, we learned a lot of what's going on and it set us up for the ending perfectly.
AAAAAAAA I can't believe I also finished this book in one sitting!! It's totally amazing!!! The one thing that I just have to get out my chest is that after reading the first book, I've just realized that this series was a spinoff or built in the same world as another series.. I HAD NO CLUE!! since this was just recommended to me, I didn't assume it was a spinoff. The missing parts from book one now makes a lot of sense!! TuT welp it's okay I guess since I love this series sooo much!! Ugh can I have my own Nico and Kage?? And Raphael,, and Amari,, and Val!! I want them all😭
A great second book for this series it is one that should be read in order. This was full of all the great things the last one had: supernatural elements, reverse harem why choose romance, plenty of hotness university of combinations, action, suspense. There is also lots of twists and turns in this second book with an ending I did not see coming. I really hope Sammy and her men get an HEA and it's all said and done and nobody gets dead. I can't wait to see what happens next. Good book would recommend.
Book two is even more action-packed than the first. With enemies coming out of the woodwork, and secrets being revealed, Sammy and her men are met with trial after trial. The ending threw me for a loop! I knew something was happening, but now I have to read on and find out how and why. This is a binge-worthy series that will keep you glued to its pages. Another five stars!
Banter between the harem is kicking up a notch as the heat in the bedroom increases! Excited to see where the final book takes us after such an unexpected cliff hanger! Missing a star due to a lack of character building/ background, and obnoxious religious bashing/ cussing. Also the small detail of our squirrels piercing going unmentioned in our panthers up close encounter with it. Though I loved that it was from his perspective while we experienced a grouping.
It's hard to put into words just how wonderful this book was, with Kage opening up a little and Raphael's knowledge that he learned to Val. (can't say anymore on him lol)Just wow this was amazingly packed full of adventure and romance (of course 😁) but I was on my toes the entire time. I cant wait for book 3!!!
There's a reason why the lightning keeps finding her. The council is trying to kill her the one she thought she could trust had a the secret thet could have killed her and the others. Samara is trying to figure out her powers and what it can do. She is also trying to figure out how a relationship was five guys works. How will she help her people?
That ending was definitely something for this second book. So much revelations that aren’t really confirmed if they were true or just them speculating. As a whole, it felt like the characters progression was minimal at best, but the story just captivated you until you’re at the very end of the book.
Wow that ending was not at all what I expected. I really hope it’s something that can be fixed because if not it’s gonna break my heart. Also finding out why Samara is the way she is was a total shock! I love how everything is heating up with all the guys. Running to the next book.
Squirrel (Nico), Gargoyle/Panther (Amari), Vampire (Val), Angel (Raphael), Brownie (Kage) Sammy has it all. Now her Vampire has gone Rogue with Bloodlust, She is a Bastard Shamans kid oh and a Light source. What could happen next?
Once again, I was caught up in the story and read it in one sitting. Really enjoying where the trilogy is going, and the generally fast paced nature of the story.
This series was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was perfectly balanced between plot/sex/character development. It had it's own spin on demons and I really liked that. It's worth the read and is also binge-able. Medium Burn.
I have the same feelings about this one as I do book one: I wish we had the time to see these connections grow instead of just believing them. I think the idea and the world is super fun and creative, but I want more from the characters than what we've been given.
This book wrecked me. I'm hoping that whatever it is that's made her vampire love lose his ever loving bat mind, that it's fixable because anything else is unacceptable.
