Am început să citesc această carte după ce am renunțat la "Cloud Computing For Dummies", căci aceasta din urmă era prea puțin tehnică și prea mult orientată pe aspectul business, ceea ce m-a plictisit îngrozitor după 50 de pagini. În schimb, ”Essentials of Cloud Computing: A Holistic Perspective” este într-adevăr o introducere destul de reușită în lumea tehnică a cloud computing-ului și este în aceeași măsură adresată începătorilor.

Am ales această carte, deoarece la momentul în care scriu este una din cele mai recente pe domeniu, aspect care mi s-a părut important. Stilul este unul didactic și de multe ori am avut impresia că autorul se adresează unei săli de clasă. Ceea ce nu mi-a displăcut neaparat, dar fiind destul de aridă se citește și mai încet.

Câteva detalii care mi s-au părut adesea supărătoare sunt, pe de o parte, faptul că autorul se repetă foarte mult. La un moment dat acceași propoziție a fost repetată în două fraze consecutive, ceea ce mi s-a părut exagerat. Pe de altă parte, au fost foarte multe imagini și grafice absolut simpliste, care nu au adus nimic în plus textului deja foarte clar. Toate aceste aspecte mi-au dat senzația că autorul a avut un anumit număr de pagini pe care ar trebui să îl scrie și s-a bazat pe astfel de trucuri ieftine.

În cele din urmă, am învățat destul de multe lucruri noi și consider că mi-am atins scopul de a mă familiariza cu lumea cloud-ului citind această carte. De asemenea, conținutul este destul de informativ, ceea ce face să merite negreșit 3 stele.
