You can accomplish anything you can dream if you get someone else to do it! is the personal mission statement and secret weapon of the irrepressible R. Philip Hanes. A dynamic and visionary entrepreneur, civic leader, and philanthropist whose CV includes posts at the National Endowment of the Arts and the Smithsonian, Hanes packs at least 10 lifetimes' worth of experience and achievement into a memoir of his first 80 years. HOW TO GET ANYONE TO DO ANYTHING is not only the story of an exceptional life, it's a manual for how to make your own life exceptional.
Unlike the majority of vaguely titled advice books written by industry icons, Hanes delivers a candid recollection of a life fueled by his true passion/calling/etc.
Admittedly, my day's worth of enchantment with this book owes some credit to Hanes' detailed chronology of Winston-Salem, my hometown.
This book was just okay in my opinion. I liked when it stuck to the psychology side of explanation, but found there were just too many, "studies show", and "there have been studies" without any clarification to those studies. And in some cases the example for a scenario implied that you should be disingenuous to further your own cause. Probably wouldn't have read it to completion, but was a mandatory read for a class.
How To Get Anyone To Do Anything was written by the man from Winston-Salem, NC, who, through the force of his personality and fund-raising ability, revitalized downtown. An interesting book.
