Funny, sweet, curvy, and giving, Cora Lance is almost perfect. She owns the local beauty shop, Hair to Eternity. (Yeah, she’s a little quirky.)
Firefighter, Judd Wellington has had his eyes on Cora for quite a while. He likes everything he sees in the pretty little redhead. He hasn’t made a move, because she’s the Fire Chief’s daughter.
That means sweet little Cora is off-limits.
Judd is determined to lock down his need for Cora. He figures the best way to do that is to avoid her and to never, ever be alone with her.
But what happens when the town of Thickwood, Colorado, is flooded, leaving Cora and Judd trapped in his cabin completely alone with nothing to do. But each other.
I’ve loved this author’s other books, so I just dived right into this one without checking to see if it was safe. Up to this point, this author had been very consistent in her writing, so I trusted that this book would also be ok
Unfortunately, for some inexplicable reason, this one wasn’t consistent. The heroine doesn’t belong exclusively to the hero, she’s severed the connection of being claimed by him, by giving her body and all the profound intimacy that comes with that, to others. Instead of the hero awakening her, every time she remembers her first time, that pivotal moment will always belong to another man. No, thank you.
Romance genre: Series: Thickwood, CO Length: 81 pages
Plot: Judd and Cora have secret crushes on each other. Judd won't make a move though; Cora's dad is his chief at the fire station and Cora is off-limits. But when Cora goes out to Judd's cabin and there's a flood, loving them in together, he just might have to give in to his temptations.
Commentary: Cora's a grown woman and her dad is still dictating her dating life1 I hate when I read plotlines like that. I'm glad that these people are part of close families, but at the same time, I'm thinking that they should be able to date without such interference. Judd was thoughtful though, and that went a long way to explain why he buy into that lie.
Are you looking for something super steamy? Super short? Super alpha? With FIREMEN??
Then let me tell you about The Mountain Man's reward.
He's not supposed to touch her. She's the fire chief's daughter. She's not allowed to date firemen. She fancies a fireman.
Then she's knocked off the road during a storm. With no way home. And who's cabin is she near? And only one bed you say?!
Look guys, for what this is, it's actually pretty great. I can almost feel myself coming out a reading slump type thing and I have this book to thank. So Thank you alpha mountain man.
**A complimentary copy was provided to me on behalf of the author in exchange for an honest review**
An enjoyable, Hot, novella! Who doesn't love an alpha firefighter?! Judd knows he should stay away from Cora, because she is the fire chief's daughter. When she is stranded during a storm he rescues her and brings her to his cabin because it's close by. They both try to resist each other, but their close proximity makes it difficult. How will the chief react when he finds out about them? Will Cora and Judd have a chance to prove to him that they care about each other? This is the first book I have read by L. Nicole and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series
A Sweet and Sexy Story that Shows Good Guys Don't Always Finish Last...
What is it about a big and burly mountain man that draws you in like a moth to a flame? To be honest, I'm not completely sure. But, there's something there, because despite not being overly blown away by this series, here I am five books deep.
I am not normally a sugar and spice kinda girl...sweet and simple romances are definitely not my thing. And for the most part the Thickwood, Colorado series is just that, a safe, swoony series that vanilla hea fans will love. However, there are tiny little snippets of darkly delicious, angsty goodness hidden throughout. Enough to keep even rough and crusty, violent bad boy loving shifter crones like me paying attention.
Is every book in this series great? Nope, not at all, out of the five I've read thus far, only two others have moved me enough to leave a review. And thankfully this installment, "The Mountain Man's Rewards" by L. Nicole, is good enough to be the third!
Here, in this fifth installment of the series, we find the story of Judd and Cora. Both of whom we've met in earlier books. Judd, is the sweet, kind, and humble firefighter with dreams of one day becoming the man in charge of the department. And Cora (his longtime secret love) is the beautiful and fiery salon owner he secretly pines for. The woman of his dreams who just so happens to also be forbidden fruit as the existing fire chief's daughter.
What follows is a sweet and sassy story of longing. A sexy, more carefree story of a couple trying to ignore fate. A story that, despite being very, very vanilla, is still a rather moving, heart warming tale of two souls coming together as one. As they were designed to be. It is a lovely piece that, unless you're completely dead inside, will have your "awww" motor running by the second chapter. And although it does not have the angsty, trauma driven backdrops of the previous books, will still keep you hooked until the very end.
While still somewhat simplistic and overly cautious. This installment is a vast improvement over the last book. Back is the sizzling chemistry between characters. Back is the depth and emotional richness. And back is the smooth, more methodical and patient pacing that keeps your heart impatiently thumping in your chest with each passing page.
Does it come anywhere close to the caliber of Jordan Marie's, poignant and wit filled contribution to this series? No, no it does not. However, it is still a highly enjoyable read. A far better read than the one before it, and well worth the hour or so it takes to devour.
Judd and Cora have been dancing around each other for years by using methods of avoidance. However, one night she goes for a drive and in bad weather is driven off the road. No signal to call for help, Judd luckily stumbles across her and takes her home. After years of avoiding each other, stuck together in a cabin....oh my what will they do? 🤷♀️
I enjoyed this story as Judd and Cora had history and wasn’t an insta love story from the word go. L. Nicole is a new to me author and although I enjoyed the story, she often jumped between present and past tenses which caused the story to slow down rather than keeping at the same pace. A good story none the less and I look forward to the last few in this series😁
I was so hoping that Judd and Cora would get a story ever since being introduced in Braden's book. Omg what a story they got. Judd works for Cora's father. Her father is Thickwoods fire chief. Cora has always been off limits. I mean she has to be. Well fate has different plans. Mother nature threw a monkey wrench by the way of a rain storm. Late one night Judd finds Cora stranded on the road in the pouring rain. Only option is to wait it out at his cabin. Can these two defy fate and sexual attraction to survive one night? We shall see. It was such a fast paced and fun read. I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. I love all the tension of the characters. It was nice to see Braden and Ophelia make an appearance too.
This is my 1st read by L. Nicole and I enjoyed The Mountain Man's Reward a lot and I will definitely check out more from this author. I liked that I already knew of the characters since I read previous stories in The Thickwood CO series so I was excited to see how these 2 characters story would pan out. Judd loves his job and doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize that, even if it means that he has to stay away form the woman he loves, Cora has been fighting her attraction to Judd for years until fate and mother nature has other plans for these 2 lovebirds. Great story, great writing.
Another great addition to Thickwood! Cora is the strongwilled daughter of the town's fire chief and off limits to firefighter Judd. Too bad he can't stop thinking about her. So he avoids her like the plague. Cora wants Judd so bad but knows that her father would lose his mind if she dated a fire eater. So she tries to not be wherever he is. When mother nature conspires against them, its impossible to fight their feelings any longer. Can they finally let go of their fear and seize what they really want? Fun and flirty, this couple is meant to be!
Cora and Judd have been trying to avoid each other for years. Each of them have feelings for each other, but the thing standing in their way is her father. He's the fire chief and Judd's boss. After rescuing Cora from a wreck on a stormy night, Judd takes to her his cabin where they finally admit their feelings and act on them. I loved this story. Keep seeing these two in the other books and was hoping we'd get theirs. Forbidden love is a great trope. They were passionate about each other and fought her dad to stay together. Great read.
When Cora wrecks her car during a storm on the mountain, her secret crush comes to her rescue. Judd has always had feelings for Cora but he's a firefighter and Cora's father is the Chief. Both have liked each other but never acted on it and now that they're alone in Judd's cabin, things are about to change. The story is cute, funny and hot! And what will happen when her Dad finds out about them. Loved the story and loved seeing characters from a previous book.
It’s one of the worst themes for a romance, they can’t be together because daddy is the boss and he’ll loose his job. As a firefighter I get that it’s a calling and more than a job, but see this is where it gets me, a job is more important than the woman he’s supposed to be falling for? It’s both cowardly and dishonest. The interaction between the characters was very immature and the dialog childlike and naive.
Cora and Judd have been attracted to each other for years but have keep away from each other as much as you can in a small town like Thickwood. The reason? The fire Chief was Cora's dad and Judd's boss. He was adamant that Cora shouldn't date a firefighter and he was determined to prevent that. Unexpectedly they are thrust into each other's life with a little help from mother nature. Great plot, likeable characters and red hot romance. Highly recommended
This is the fifth book of the Thickwood, CO,5TH. This is a story of Judd wellington and Cora Lance. Judd is a firefighter, and Cora is a owner of a beauty shop. Judd has feeling for Cora for a while, and Cora the fire Chief daughter was off limits but Judd is a man, and Cora is the woman he wants. Cora was attracted to Judd, to flames have to make heat , and this story get warmer with Judd and Cora.
He's a firefight and her dad is chief. So she's is forbidden to date , but her has cared for her for yrs. She had felt the same way about him. A bad storm and she's in a ditch and he rescues her and takes her to his cabin. They're both tired of avoiding beginning together. They had to work out a couple of things and calming her dad down but things are finally going their way
This sweet, hot little story left me smiling, and had me entranced the whole way through.
I would have liked for the main characters to more fully confess their long-standing crushes to each other. I wanted all barriers and pretense to be washed away with the flood. No more holding back, anything. And I wanted the story to show both characters are as kind-hearted, generous, and charming as they each think the other is.
Cora and Judd were super cute together. They both want each other but Cora's father stands in their way. Cora and Judd avoid each other to avoid temptation; that is until a really bad storm comes through and pushes Cora and Judd together. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This was a cute little read i gave it three stars because it’s annoying when grown adults act like high schoolers sneaking around because of their parents (insert eye roll here) parents have nothing to do with who you date or marry but i guess it’s the only plot they could come Up with
So far I have read all books in this series and while I hate to admit it, this one was not my favorite. Cora and Judd cares what her father says, I get he is the chief and he can make Judds like hell but they are also adults and they have been battling loving each other for YEARS?!?!? Really?
A fun, quick read with spice! We meet Cora, the fire chief's daughter and Judd, a firefighter that has had his eye on her for a long time, but she's off limits! They have a pull to each other and they start their own fire! I really enjoyed the characters and this story when a storm pushes them together.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Kinda funny how fate and Mother Nature stepped in, when all the odds were stacked against them. They were blessed, given the opportunity to to confess their hearts desires. And they won the ultimate reward. An HEA, written by the stars.
When Cora gets stuck in a storm and Judd comes to her aide on his way home it becomes their opportunity to give into their feelings. Both have avoided each other because of the respect for his boss, her father. Stuck together it forces them to admit their feelings. When the storm is over will the go back to being cordial or let love guide them?
This is a great continuation of the series! I liked everything about this book. The storyline, the characters and the writing. So much so that I'm gonna read more L. Nicole books!!
I felt the bickering between Cora and Judd once he helps rescue her from the car crash was strange, it felt off and unnecessary. I get that they were trying to stay away from each other but it was just felt juvenile. Then to get drunk and have sex anyways seemed ridiculous. Ending was good where Cora stands up to her dad and defends Judd. Nice epilogue. 3.5 stars
Judd has cared for his boss's daughter for years, but knowing he wouldn't allow it he ignores her. Cora returns the favor as well. But nature has other plans.
Cora has a crush on Judd and vice versa. They avoid each other because her dad is the Fire Chief and Judd works for him. Cora runs off the road and Judd saves her during a rainstorm. He takes her home and it happens. Sweet ending.
