For as long as I can remember magic has been a part of my life.

I’m not talking about the ‘make-an-elephant-disappear’ or ‘pull-the-rabbit-from-the-hat’ type of magic – although that’s cool – I’m talking about the magic of relationships.

Like when you kiss a soulmate for the first time, or hang out with friends and bond over yummy pizza and a rom-com movie. Or when you break up with someone you cared about and got relationship advice from your parents while your heart mended.

That type of magic.

And coming from a family of five, I grew up competing with my brothers for computer time and video games (as long as they were of the driving variety!). Gamer girl and tech geek in my family. Did I mention I had a competitive streak?

Following university, I fell into many varied office-based jobs – insert boring title here! No job ever filled me with passion, so I looked to the web for something that would provide a challenge and a way to replace my day job!

I found a great community and training site called Location Rebel, where I could learn everything I needed to make my own way in the world. I started there in August 2011, by June 2012, I’d quit my day job and moved into full time freelance writing!

With some of the expertise I gained from working for 15+ years on real life writing projects (read, boring administration jobs!), I founded my own company, determined to bring what I had on offer to similarly minded people who were still in the dark regarding freelance writing and making a successful career out of it, but in a meaningful way.

I’ve been called many things, some not worth mentioning here, but really, I’m just good at connecting with people. Showing people that they can do this or anything they put their mind to.

Author Lise Cartwright is a “self-confessed shoe fanatic, full-time author of 30+ best selling books and creator of Hustle HQ, a membership site for creative business owners to develop a Productive Profit Plan.” But 4 years ago she was “shy, scared, timid, and not particularly tech-savvy.” Okay, she’s got me at shy and timid. So…

The first thing this author suggests I develop is one or two lead magnets, to attract (the right) people into giving me their email addresses—then I’ll be able to tell them about my books. But the magnet shouldn’t be a book? What else do I have to offer, and where on earth will I get 20 ideas to whittle down? Perhaps I’ll have to check out the competition… But how will I make sure my magnet grabbers are interested in what I have to offer?

Short paragraphs, quick instructions and frequent bites of encouragement, plus the italicized thoughts of a real customer, all make this an easy-to-read enticing and practical guide. There are even color examples of what an appropriate “landing page” might look like, a nice walk-through of starting an email list (with a “welcome sequence!”, and screen-shots of how to let customers download that “lead magnet.”

Three sections cover the three objectives in the title, ending with those “wow” things that wow the reader. Then there’s a thirty day plan (really??? I just need to find a free thirty days—I could (almost) do this!). And then a final note of encouragement. A quick, encouraging and useful read. Plus there’s a link to download a free workbook.

Disclosure: I was given a copy and I offer my honest review

Instant and Useful Application

If you want to grow your business by finding new leads, converting them into buyers, and keeping them as forever customers, “Capture, Convert, Captivate” is a must read! After reading this book and even though I’ve never met the author, I feel like Lise is a personal friend and my author business coach. She offers practical training and step-by-step guidelines on how to capture customers through email marketing and nurture them through a long-term relationship. Because I’m quite familiar with email marketing, I at first thought I may not need to read this book, but after working through part of the first section, I discovered that Lise was offering much-needed help. I am an author and I plan to recommend this book to other authors, but this book will be useful to anyone with a service to offer or product to sell.

In this book, the author provides a great balance of providing a conceptual understanding of WHY the topics presented are important and HOW to actually implement them. I am currently working on building out my first email sequence as a result of a lead magnet, and this book provided excellent descriptions, examples, and step by step tips for implementation.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to grow leads, convert these leads into sales, and provide value to their customers.
