Once again, I feel like I am stuck in fan fiction hell ! This story seems like a rip-off of Bully. For one thing, the female main character in Bully is called Tate and the H in this book is named Nate. Lol.
Then, there's also the whole illegal drag racing thing that the heroes in both novels are involved in. Plus, both H's have the dumbest of dumbshittiest reasons for bullying their heroines. I am doing some one finger phone typing, so I can't write a long review.
The H is also a huge manslut. And, if that's not bad enough, the author seems to be awed by how much gratuitous manwhoring this guy accomplishes. There's even a very nasty scene where the heroine sees him sucking another girl's nipples - a naked girl !
Does this heroine get mad or feel disgust, like a normal female ? Nope. Our heroine gets turned on and even wishes she was the naked girl in his lap ! The MC's weren't involved with each other then, so he's not technically cheating, but I don't understand why the author thinks this scene was so vital.
Is the reader supposed to be awed by the H's sexual skills and put him on some sort of metaphoric pedestal for deluxe teenage mansluts ? The storytelling was also limited to "telling" rather than"showing". We're told that the bullying manwhore H loved the heroine, but the prose failed to reflect that.
This was a little too teenyboppery for me but I have no one to blame but myself; the title of the book did warn me, didn't it ? I guess I just thought it would be one of those better written Young Adult romances, where the angst is validated by compelling storytelling.
This reminded me too much of the teeny stuff that is so abundant on Wattpad. And now I know why I no longer log into Wattpad anymore. Lol. Even the heroine's best friend seemed like a shallow man crazy airhead. The bff Brooke had sex with some guy A DAY AFTER she had seen him performing oral sex on a cheerleader ! Do these teens not know what the word "fastidious" means ?
Anyway, I think this book has brought an end to my temporary sojourn away from my beloved regency romances and Harlequin Presents novels. Lol. It's obvious that I won't be continuing with this series, since I wasn't impressed by the plot, cliched, copied MC's and the amateurish narrative.
Safety: The H has sex with other girls in the early part of the story and he even continues to flirt with other women in front of the heroine after the MC's had sex ! Then, he had the audacity to tell the heroine, at the end, that he had loved her since he was 12. The heroine was a virgin.

Very good, reminds me a bit of Fallen Crest High!
The story of a girl and two brothers, one who she loves and the other who treats her like family. The premise is very similar to Fallen Crest, which I totally loved, and this book was also very good. Tora knew Nate and Jesse very well when they were young because their parents were good friends.
However, when Nate and Tora turned twelve something happened and they stopped hanging out together. Nate and Jesse and their friends became the school’s bad boys. Nate became Tora’s bully and Tora had her own group of friends.
Until senior year when her parents have to go away to Australia to take care of her sick Granny. They ask that she stay with Nate and Jesse’s Family. Tora is forced to spend time with Nate. Though he has a girlfriend and she has been spending time with the Quarterback, they are both drawn to each other. There are unexpected twists and turns and fun high school parties where craziness happens. It is young love at its best. It is also pretty funny.

Do not let the cover fool you !! This is not a YA book, this is a Sheridan Anne book. This isn’t exactly teen friendly, unless the teens are from the series ‘euphoria’. They would love this…
There was a lot of confusing logic in this book, which I can’t see myself at 18 years old thinking. I’m 6 years past that point now, but I know stupidity was alive and well at points in this book. This doesn’t mean I hate the whole book, but I was saying ‘WTF why’ a lot.
Some examples of my ‘WTF why’ moments :
🤔She befriended a ‘mean girl’, who was being ostracised. Why you ask? Because this girl made a plan to embarrass the FMC by having a guy get her alone, r*pe her and then film it. Then they were going to put it on social media. The FMC was 17, so it would have been the distribution of child porn also. Anyway, she decides to forgive this girl because other people aren’t being nice to her. Stupid…the plan to ‘keep your enemies close’ doesn’t apply in this situation.
🤔The MMC terrorizes the FMC for 5 years and does things throughout her adolescence that were probably mortifying at the time, but he always had a reason for doing it. Like cutting her hair off, as she said for weeks she wanted to change her hairstyle. I want my ears pieced it doesn’t mean I want you to come at me with a needle !!
🤔Incest !!! This is in book 2 and it isn’t between the main lead characters, but the way this plot twist played out was bizarre and the reason it happened was ridiculous. This girl slept with one of her brothers because she wanted their attention. F*cking weird.
🤔In book 1, an assault takes place, but in book 2 no charges are brought, despite the school getting involved and seeing a video of this assault. They would have to go to the police, but this assailant just attends another school. It doesn’t make sense
I did think the relationship between Tora and Nate was sweet and once they committed to each other, their protectiveness was really nice to read. Jessie is also a great addition. Brooke would have been better if she didn’t have sex in her friend's bed, also a weird thing that was just accepted. I did think the writing was good and a lot of other plot points really hit the mark. Is it very similar to the Fallen Crest series …. Yeah. I agree with the other reviews, but I went into this knowing it would be.
Triggers (across books 1 and 2) - attempted sexual assault, incest, OW drama, violence. Currently, DNF at book 2, cause the incest storyline was thrown in there.

'𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇' Is the first full length New Adult romance book within the (Broken Hill High) series by author Sheridan Anne. In this we get to meet Nate Ryder & ToraI'm on the 'Sheridan Anne' train at the moment, after finishing off with a series of hers which I loved Bradford Bastard I wanted to carry on in that bubble. Even though I'd seen a few mixed reviews I was still excited to dive in.
This was a sweet and sour kind of read which I was here for, he's bullied her relentlessly for about 5 years, from cutting her hair, to telling a guy she went out on a date with that she was a stage 1 clinger, which kind of made him run for the hills leaving his skid marks in his wake, to many more antics and it's not until we reach the end is where he comes clean in his own words.
He was a walking talking red flag, she was the girl he loved to torment.
Nate is part of a bad boy group within the school, him being top of the leaderboard, then his brother Jesse, their cousin Maxen and best friends Tyson & Parker. Each and every single one of them is swoon worthy. Every girl wants to be their candy, every boy wants to be them.
She had no choice when it came to living with Nate, she was well prepared to stay at home by herself whilst her parents were in Australia taking care of her ill Nana. But Nate wasn't down for that, he barged in and basically kidnapped her taking her home with him.
Tora has had a secret crush on the popular star quarterback of the school, but to step out of your lane you have to expect to suffer the consequences.
Delve deeper and all those cutesy sweet moments will come at you full force. Then we have the sour moments with the top jock and the top cheerleader who want to take things to a whole new galaxy when it comes to bullying and putting her in her place. Mix it all up and it was a jumbled nasty mess these two had planned. And I know there will be repercussions coming full force towards our heroine.

So basically we have the classic nice but strong girl falls for her bully but undercover protector/crush romance. Tora is a high school girl with every day problems, and then bigger ones in the form of mean girls, jerk guys, users, body image issues, and all that jazz. She’s got a group of great friends, but there are also people in her life that are iffy. Cue up Nate. Long time family friend but also her bully. These two have something between them from the start of the story, so even though they are paired with other people you feel that tension between them. Nate is not the nicest to Tora. He is pretty much always there to seemingly ruin her day, but you come to find it’s a bit more than that. At some points I did find myself just wanting to shake them. Like come on guys. It’s obvious you have feelings for each other, but it’s all about the process and that frustration is what makes the story good.
All in all if you’re a lover of angsty YA/NA that gets a tiny bit steamy, then you will enjoy this book. It kind of gives me some Tijan vibes in ways.

YA with way too many over privileged 2 dimensional characters who do 2 dimensional things... everyday.
It was like watching a really horrible Hallmark special that was filmed in the 90s that you catch at 3am on an obsolete cable channel in a small foreign village were they grow beets and rutabagas and cook meth.
Name it... The parties, the catty girls, Jocks and cheerleaders and bad boys. the boozing, the OTT gratuitous sex in big houses with never present parents.
The cherry? A really over privileged heroine who seemed spoiled and full of herself. I was not pleased.

I feel like I just read stolen work.
I'm sorry but please don't waste your money on this book. I suggest if this is the kind of story you are interested in that you buy the original book by the original author where there are a lot less grammatical errors and the story flows way better. You mam at least have one redeeming thing about yourself and that's only bc you at least had the decency to change the characters names and tweak around the plot line a very little bit but that's the only difference between these two books. I have read other books about bullies in high school where the author has surprisingly written a good book with their own ideas and have original plot lines. You should be ashamed of yourself for doing this. Not only have you stolen my money but I have a 5 month old who was born very prematurely and it's not often I get to sit down and read. And bc I decided to take a chance on a new to me author you have now stolen my time that I can not get back. I could have spent my time reading a new to me author that doesn't have to steal other authors work or heck I could have spent my time actually rereading the original book. And I actually kept reading and finished this book just to make sure I wasn't being crazy and imaging that this is stolen work. Please for the love of whatever you believe in do not buy this book. Buy Bully by Penelope Douglas. It outranks this book a 100 times over.

I had been hearing all about this author’s writing and her series for the longest time. I was seriously disappointed with this first book in the series. I am not one to write negative reviews, but this book was written for a high school student. The plot is not interesting and took me a long time to get through it. There were a lot of “she grunts” “he grunts” “she grins” all around.
At least give us a well-written, tear jerker, heartbreaking book to want us to go back to book 2.

Broken Hill High definitely reminded me of previous books that I've read. In it, you will meet Nate and Tora. They are enemies to lovers (kind of). Nate is Tora's bully.. but also a family friend - which kind of sucks ass.
At one point, you'd think he has a crush on her because of the way he treats her. Yeah, he's not nice to her but didn't your mom always tell you that when a boy is mean to you .. that it means he has a crush on you? Well, not my mom lol. Besides all of that, this book definitely shoved some tension between these two. Whether it was sexual or not.. everyone with eyes probably knew that these two had feelings for one another.
The romance was eh and these two were kind of cute. I'm glad that I took a chance on a new series.. but now I'm so behind on the actual books that I planned to read this month. Ugh, no idea if I'm going to read the next book or not.. but I'll definitely try.

✨✨✨I enjoyed this one, all the angst and the sexual tension was palpable .
i liked all the fights ,but also all the caring gestures coming from Nate . how couldn't she see how much he cared for her it's behind my knowledge .

3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 Stars! Enemies to lover/ Bully trope. I liked this one. Nate and Tora grew up as best friends until they were twelve, then Nate changed into the bad boy bully. This was all because Tora was starting to date and Nate didn’t like it, and at that age couldn’t express his feeling to Tora. It was fun seeing them fight with each other and feeling that strong chemistry between them. Great start to the series.

LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!
This may be HS but I enjoyed it so damn much. This reminds me of the Kade brothers it's as if Nate is (Mason Kade) and Jesse is (Logan Kade) then Tora is (Samantha) in Fallen Crest High series and God I couldn't get enough. It's been major cougar time for me lately and I'm loving Nate. On to some more of them!

I love a good bully romance but this just didn’t quite hit the spot for me. The story line was there but I just didn’t quite draw me in like I hoped it would. I know the second book is coming out so I will give that a chance to see if it gets better.

Wow!
What a great start to this series! This was the first time I've read a book by this author but man she made a great YA/NA read. I will say I'm kind of confused on why there are so many books about Nate and Tori though. I can't wait to read more on these two but I have to say that was a good ending so I'm not sure what is still in store for them. I guess I'll have to read on and find out!

This barely makes sense to me, but the reason I picked this book out is Broken Hill. It's a place in Australia! It has sheep and mining, and there's history stuff, related to trade unions which is sort of obscurely relevant to my job!
I've never been there, but if I was to picture Broken Hill High it would be an ugly 1970s cement structure, and the female students once wore a maroon tunic in the summer terms and the boys wore grey shorts and house colours t-shirts, and if their parents grew up in the area they would remember stricter rules around uniforms, especially about keeping your socks pulled up. And then and now, the big social event when you're old enough is the B&S ball, to which you wear gumboots because there's mud, and it's a good thing it's in a field because there's less clean up of drunken fight blood and vomit.
Aww, I just looked it up and I'm completely wrong: Aussie Broken Hill High School is cute! It's a pretty federation style building, and the uniforms are no uglier than most. However, it's NOTHING like a high school in an affluent US gated community.
Tora (yes, finally decided to actually talk about the book) is pretty and nice. She has an eating disorder and a bully. She's in her senior year and is considering a hook up with Josh, star quarterback. But he's not a great kisser.
Nate is the school's sexy alpha bad boy and Tora's bully. They were friends until they turned 12, but for the last 5 years Nate's alternately ignored, verbally abused, or started rumours about Tora. He also at some stage cut off her hair in class. Tora isn't living in fear - this isn't dark bully romance, but she doesn't want anything to do with Nate. And when her parents go to Australia to look after Tora's Nanna, she's placed in the lax care of Nate's parents.
So bully romance is a sub-genre now, and is either dark or sort of not. I wonder about it, really. Recently, there seems to have been a more concerted effort to tell children that a boy being mean to a girl isn't a sign that he likes her, bullying is abuse, and that this isn't cute. Are we getting this genre as an outcome of that education, and what's it supposed to be saying? I mean, romance says a lot of Wrong Things, and that's often fun, and sometimes subversive. I don't expect there to be literal Teachable Moments, i.e. we're not necessarily supposed to take away that a bully's abuse is generated from his inability to handle his love for the heroine in a more positive way, and that acceptance, love and forgiveness will turn him into the perfect boyfriend.
But also, this is mostly exactly what happens? And does it, because we still really like the stories of how a girl's love can redeem even the most heinous of monsters (and obviously all those boys who are just kind of getting it wrong)?
I really got nothing against this book, it's pretty enjoyable. Lots of good basic high school drama, a plucky heroine who stands up for herself and has a few sensible moments. It relies heavily on high school movie tropes, but that's not a bad thing. Nate's fun to hate, and the author does a good job of dropping hints about his true feelings for Tora, and then making it all ambiguous again when he returns to being a jerk.
What didn't work as well: I thought Tora's eating disorder could have been better developed. I thought the Shaming of the Cheerleader for her part in Tora's struggles was off. It's irritating that the revelation that brought her down worked because she's female, and also served to raise status for the males involved. And I thought the ending tied everything up pretty well, and I was surprised when I saw this is the first of 4 books.

I'm on a binge...
A certain kind of havoc in me needs to be fulfilled with these kind of books...
"love/hate enemies to lovers bully" kind of stuff...it's interesting how I read all these books and find myself laughing at my own reactions...it's silly really, thinking that this kind of stuff would work out in real life...my ass
But the very fact stands, that bullying is out there...unfortunately, and it's not only reflected on the pre-teen, teen years...it's also present in one's adulthood, yet under a different name - mobing
it's the same shit...it exists, sadly, it's out there, and the bullies tend to find their victims very quickly and very effectively...
i have considered every option regarding this subject, since I am a mother of two (a boy and a girl) and I ultimately came to a conclusion that, even though I really condemn violence and I do NOT think it's a solution to the core of the problem, unfortunately and sadly, it's ONE of the affects that can divert the negative attention a bully has for his/her victim...
you see, the bullies work in masses, they never act alone, cause they are stronger in a group, hence them being actually the weakest and cowardest of them all. It's the law of nature really (just look at the animal world - wolves, lions, all the "big cats' group" - they are merciless, cruel and ruthless but they never act alone), hence taking out the "leader" of the bullies can, in fact stop the actions of the group...
and now, we come to the main reason, should the victim risk and confront the bully or avoid and try to handle it on a different approach?
In my experience, and through the experiences of my children, both approaches work, eventually, cause it all depends on the character of the bullied child (person). My son has a different approach and opinion on the matter than my daughter and they are both right in dealing with the potentional problem...
my son is a pragmatic and very calm in personality...he's ability to recognize and detect the negative vibes around him is absolutely brilliant and he has the ability to extract himself from the dangerous sitations by removing himself from the equation...he's able to detach himself and just move along...cause he has such a pwerful presence...and I admire him for that...
my daughter is a more of a spitfire and you never really know how she's gonna react to a certain situation. She's a little bit hectic emotionally and thus makes her a bit unpredictable, she's known to handle the same kind of situation when she stood up for herself phisically defending herself, and also she knows how to cut the potentially growing negativity before it even strikes...she's still balancing her own emotions and actions...but I can't really tell you or give you the answer, what's good and what's not in solving this matter...
I can only say that I'm glad that they found the way to defend themselves and stand up for themselves when they didn't have an ADULT to help them...and even though I don't condone the physical aspect of confrontation, I will however, state that i won't tolerate my kids being attact without giving them a chance to fight against the bullies....
And now that I have ranted away...LOL, I can only say that, even though these kind of book, on the mentioned subjects should be taken into a consideration and maybe with caution, cause here the bullies are romantisized when in real life, there's no justification for the lack of communication if the one can't find another approach other than being a cruel and aggresive little prick...
so, as long as you think in the realms of fiction, this is quite an entertaining read!

I couldn’t put this book down! It was a good one!

From the mix reviews I read on here, I wasn't entirely confident I would enjoy this book - but like many books, and many different readers, everyone's taste is totally different. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and genuinely liked the main characters as well as the side characters.
I loved that it was a quick pace read that didn't bore me or feel there were things missing. I especially love that the ones who do so wrong pay for what they did. I especially loved that Nate proved himself better and Tora was a strong young heroine.
Overall - Despite the small grammar errors that in my opinion were easy to look past, and a couple things that didn't fit with a small part of the story, I completely enjoyed it. Sheridan Anne is a 'new to me' author and although this is the first book of hers I read, it won't be the last.
