Premonition Pointe #2

Witching For Hope

Rate this book
Hope Anderson loves her life. She has a great business that’s thriving, the best friends a girl could ever have, and a coven she can count on. Oh, and she’s been single for over fifteen years and likes it that way… until the love of her life, Lucas King, walks back into town and throws everything she thought she knew about herself into chaos.

If that wasn’t enough, now her mother is in town to warn her about a curse that happens to all the Anderson women when they turn forty-six, and she isn’t talking about hot flashes or mood swings. When her mother moves in and Grace’s business is suddenly on the rocks, it’s going to take all of her magic to get her life back on track. The question is, will Lucas prove he deserves to be traveling that line with her, or will she walk away the same way she did fifteen years ago?

Third time’s the charm….

Hope inherits a supernatural power, reading minds and she takes this with ease. She understands how intrusive this power is and uses it wisely. I like her level headedness, her friends, and coven.

Lucas and Hope might just get it right this time around. They both choose their careers over the other person. That isn't a bad thing; because their romantic pauses allowed them to both be in a place where they can devote themselves completely to being a couple. I will say the romance again is a side-dish then the main-course in the storyline.

The storyline is about love, paranormal abilities, family curse, true friendship and rebuilding the family connection. It also has a mystery to be solved. I like how the story is full of strong powerful women; though they still struggle with their own insecurities in their own ways.

Witching For Hope was an enjoyable read. I like that this series features over 40 heroines, but I’m not getting captured. I’ll be moving onto something else.

More like 2.5 stars, but not good enough to be rounded up.

I had some issues with this book. It felt a lot more mainstream than the first one which meant it didn't really have any distinctive features that clearly set it apart from other, similar series out there. The heroine, Hope, isn't fighting middle age as much as Grace did in the first book. She's fighting psychic powers, but even those aren't really that bad or inconvenient.

This is more like a run-of-the-mill romance story. And as such it's kind of tedious.

Hope and Luke are meant for each other. Suuuure. But will they find issues on the way? Suuuuuuuure. And will Hope fight her feelings for Luke, even as he more or less throws himself after her? Suuuuuuuuuuure!

This wasn't "insta love", but it was ... Annoying.
I mean, come on. It went so quickly from "You hurt me so badly I have trust issues from hell!" to "Ok, let's get married!" everything in between was almost like a farce. It was almost a 180 turn that gave me whiplash.

It might be that I'm Swedish and once again a bit too young or whatever, but I also didn't buy how every inhabitant except for the sassy gay guy in Premonition Pointe dropped Hope's business like it was a contagious STD just because of a rumour and zero proof. It was (I would like to hope) inconceivably unbelievable. But, sure, maybe people in general are that stupid and I simply refuse to believe it is so.

Anyway, the whole episode with the false rumours made me so angry I almost didn't finish the book. I wanted to turn it off and just remove myself from the stupidity.

With that said - I did enjoy the revenge that came after. Heck, that was evil and sweet and I wanted more of it.

Anyhow, I'm now not so sure if I will continue this series or not. Maybe in the future because it's light and short and a really fast listen. We'll see.

This second book in the series is Hope's story. She "inherits" a new physic power on her 46th birthday, she can read minds. She's good about realizing that this is an intrusion into people's privacy and only does it when stray thoughts catch her attention or when she is in investigation mode while trying to track down a drug ring in Premonition Pointe. I'm really enjoying these characters, the witchy community and Hope's best friends and coven sisters. I'll be onto to book three soon.

I absolutely loved this second installment in Premonition Pointe series. This time it's Hope's story we got to read. It's not even a second chance, it's a third and third time is a charm which is so true about Hope and Lucas. The story line is about love, family curse, paranormal abilities, true friendship and rebuilding the family connection. It's also a new nasty mystery to be solved.
Great storyline and amazing seasoned characters to love or hate. All kinds of emotions, including laughter. Just great read! Can't wait for Joy's story.

Okay so I hated this book. I don’t know why I’m going to read the first book next. But I have a feeling this writer belongs firmly on my « who told you, you could write » list.
For starters, it’s not romance if both protagonists chose their careers over the other person. This is hum drum real life, the politically correct perspective is so boring! The curse is, Spoiler alert, telepathy! For god’s sake. I mean why should that bother a witch? Her abandonment issues with her mother turn out to be due to said curse, which befalls the women in this family on their 46th birthday, hence her mother left when the heroine turned 18 to grant her privacy, and even though she could tell how this action of hers hurt and damaged the heroine she kept quiet for 26 years so that her daughter would remain blissfully ignorant of the curse fate had in store for her, namely becoming able to hear other people’s thoughts (he horror!) add this to the context, we are talking about a supposed witch who is in a coven, and casts spells, albeit very badly, and is a bit of a door mat.
And don’t let’s start on the villains.
The banter fell flat, it was like a third rate sit-com scenario which is trying to tick the boxes in the producer’s list, just to get the whole thing over with. So only God knows why I’m going to read the first book, even though I got it and it’s on my shelf. I mean think of the time i’ll never get back. Which is why I gave this two stars. There must be something there that I’m willing to put myself through this.

Hope’s story has a crazy, unforeseen twist from the very beginning that took me by surprise. A family curse which turns into a huge advantage to find out who is running a new drug through their quiet town endangering the townsfolk. Premonition Pointe is very similar to her Witches of Keating Hollow series; however Chase does a great job of differentiating the two though the concept is the same. There are many subtle differences that I really enjoy trying to find between them to compare the two series. I really can’t pick a favorite, though these characters are still new. I look forward to “meeting” new characters in each new book, while adding to the main characters from previous books. She’s marvelous at character cameo’s throughout the story and helps to build on to what’s coming for the future.

This book is full of mystery around the plague of drugs hurting the youth of the town and it keeps you guessing who’s the culprit and why until the very end. I love how the story is full of strong powerful women; though they still struggle with their own insecurities in their own ways. No one is perfect, but there’s such a sense of empowerment that it’s becoming one of my favorite series in the PWF genre. My only criticism (which is minor) is that this book doesn’t have the level of humor as the previous book in the series, and I hope to see more humor in the next books. I guess also that this book seemed to set up Joy's story a lot and wish there was a little more focus on the romance. But I still really enjoyed this one in the series of hopefully many more to come!

Ahh, yes. A second chance at love. Or a third chance in Hope and Lucas's case. Which isn't a bad thing, mind you, because their romantic pauses allowed them to both be in a place where they can devote themselves completely to them as a couple. You know, once they get past all the weird, potential career-killing stuff happening around them.

Weird, potential career-killing stuff, you say? Indeed. There's nothing like a little malicious gossip designed to destroy a person's livelihood to liven up the week. Throw in a burgeoning drug problem infiltrating the town, all the women who are eyeballing Lucas like a prime cut of beef, and Hope's sudden ability to hear thoughts (not to mention the issues with her mom) and they have a few things to overcome.

Just a few, though. No worries. And having your coven sisters at your back helps make things a little more palatable.

Romance, skinny dipping, dog weddings, and a couple nasty people who don't care who they hurt. All in a days work for these witches.

I love this series! The second book is even better than the first one which I thought would be impossible!

I adored the storyline in this book with all the twists and turns in it. The thing I love reading about the most in this book in the relationship between the friends, how they always have each others backs in every situation! I also found Angela rather funny too with the comments that she comes out with.

I can't recommend this book highly enough! Its simply amazing and well worth the 5* rating!!!

Witching for Hope by Deanna Chase has Hope Anderson celebrating her forty-sixth birthday. Hope just wishes that Lucas King had not returned to town. He has broken her heart twice but Hope still finds herself drawn to him. Her mother has arrived to stay with Hope which brings out her feelings of anger and resentment towards her because she took off after Hope turned eighteen. It turns out that Hope’s mother is there is to help her with the curse that affects all Anderson women when they turn forty-six. Hope is unprepared for this new development. However, she finds it is helpful when people begin experiencing terrible side-effects from a new drug circulating around town. Hope with help from Grace and Joy set out to find who is distributing this deadly drug. Witching for Hope is the 2nd book in the Premonition Pointe series. It can be read as a standalone, but I feel it is beneficial to have read Witching for Grace. This book contains Deanna Chase’s trademark writing. The story is easy to read with interesting witchy characters and humor sprinkled throughout. I had to laugh when Hope’s spell to appear ten years younger went awry. I can always count on Deanna Chase to provide laugh-out-loud moments. I liked following the mystery and trying to figure out who is the person behind the drug ring. There is romance as Lucas tries to woo Hope. I can understand why Hope is hesitant to trust Lucas again after he has broken her heart twice. The book does contain foul language and intimate situations. We get a sneak peek at what will happen in Witching for Joy. Joy deserves a happy ending after what she has been going through with her husband. Witching for Hope is a humorous tale with hair humiliation, a drug disaster, connubial cacophony, and a beguiling beau.

Lucas and Hope..sigh

The second installment in this series is about second love, heartbreak, family curse, solving a mystery, and laughter. It was such a good read I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much goes down in this book it was such a rush and anxiety for me wondering what would happen next! I absolutely love Lucas. Hope and Lucas are just perfect for each other. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. Looking forward to reading Joy’s story.

Well this is Hope and Lucas. I like how all these couples get together in different ways and have different Histories. I like how Hope fights so much in this one as it adds to her character and her story. Out of all the coven sisters Hope is one of my favorites. This one has lots of funny moments and I like how laid back Lucas is.

Very well told story. In this book we get Hope's story. I find her curse very interesting. I hope she doesn't get things as bad as her mom. Hope really finds herself in this book. She is broken and I don't think she even knows it. By the end of the book she has become a stronger person. A lot of questions were answered and we got a adventure and love to go along with it. We get to see everyone we loved in the last book. Even some set up for the next book. Your going to love how this book reads. It is a great second story.

It's the story of a strong woman and man who have known each other for "a while". More mature now and having worked out some issues in their own worlds, can the two figure out how to pull it together and go for what they really want and need? Fun, romance and a bit of magic all thrown into one easy to read book.

Hope Anderson, the heroine of Deanna Chase’s newest book Witching for Hope, has been either planning a future with Lucas King or trying to get over him since she was seventeen years old. Now he’s back in Premonition Pointe and determined to win her back. But Hope isn’t sure she can trust him not to abandon her again. Plus she’s just turned forty-six and found out from her mother Angela that the women in her family suffer the effects of a curse at that age. Angela explains that the curse is also the reason why she basically abandoned Hope when she went to college. Angela needed distance to deal with her own issues with the curse. Then there’s the woman spreading vicious rumors about Hope and her event planning business, which has her clients canceling on her right and left. And, oh yeah, there’s a drug ring trying to take over Premonition Pointe, and Hope finds out that they want to use Lucas’s business as a front. So all Hope has to do is decide if she wants to take a chance on the man she’s always loved, repair her relationship with her mother, save her business and her reputation, and stop a criminal drug enterprise from destroying her hometown.

With Witching for Hope, the second book in the Premonition Pointe series, Deanna Chase has given her readers another fun paranormal romance. I love that Hope and her coven mates (Grace and Joy) are over forty. Being over forty myself, it’s great to read about characters my age that aren’t the mothers of the main characters! And I really enjoyed the references to Nirvana and Pretty Woman. Most of all, I appreciate that Hope and her friends are adventurous and exciting. Too many times I see characters in their mid-forties to fifties being portrayed as a little on the stodgy side, and it’s is absolutely fantastic to read about characters in their forties that seem more like myself.

Ms. Chase always brings a lot of humor to her books, and Witching for Hope definitely has some humorous moments that made me smile. Lucas and Hope’s adventure in skinny dipping is both funny and sexy. And there’s are a number of amusing exchanges between Hope, Grace, and Joy. I especially loved one of the new characters she introduces in this book. Skyler and his husband are new to Premonition Pointe, and after meeting Hope, Skyler hires her to plan their dogs’ wedding. The concept of a dog wedding itself was hysterical, but Skyler makes a great addition to this series. His immediate loyalty to Hope when her reputation is under attack is heartwarming, but the way he goes about showing his support cracked me up. Skyler is snarky and over-the-top, and I adore him. I hope he makes many more appearances in future books.

I highly recommend Witching for Hope. It’s a fun, amusing read, and let’s be honest—this year can use a lot more things that are fun and amusing! I received an ARC of this book from the author, but that did not influence my review.2

Reviewed at Paranormal-y Romantic

Witching for Hope is the second title in the Premonition Pointe series and will bring one couple back together after years apart and misunderstandings on both sides of their story. Neither is entirely innocent in their previous break-up, but also neither is completely to blame as Hope has blamed Lucas for leaving her behind for years now…. the fact is that she didn’t go with him either. So who’s really at fault? Neither, because then they didn’t have all the facts that went into decisions made when they were younger or had the courage back then to be completely open about what was happening in their lives outside of their love for each other.

Years have passed, Lucas is back in town supposedly to stay and Hope has choices to make, most importantly can she trust Lucas again with her heart or will her stubborn soul deny them the future they both deserve. Add some serious drug dealing scum into their drama in their small coastal town, and you have the makings of a delightful, entertaining, and relatable second chance romance for Hope and Lucas.

I adore Hope, even at her most stubborn, she’s a golden gem at heart. Her coven, her tribe always has her back and is growing as time moves on. Since I’ve now binge-read this series I can tell you that the series only gets better as time moves on, these ladies and their partners grow in their love for each other, and the dangerous bad guys continue to be vile and loathsome… but will get what they deserve in the end. I love that we get to see how everyone grows, how their coven is enhanced by new members, and absolutely adore some secondary characters like Skyler and Pete. Skyler provided me with many a chuckle throughout this series.

I loved Lucas. Yes, he’s fumbled and made his dumb mistakes over the years. Yet now, he’s back in a town he’ll never leave again hoping to win back the love of his life… but with or without Hope in his life he’s not running away anymore. There were moments when Lucas’ reactions seemed almost too good to be real yet underlying everything is his acknowledgment of his mistakes and his determination to show Hope that his love is real and he isn’t going anywhere without her again.

I don’t want to slide into the “spoiler zone”, so I’ll simply tell you that Witching for Hope is a fun, enchanting, emotional PWF that any reader who loves a good romance, a bit of magic, and some bad guys to overcome will certainly enjoy. If you haven’t started the series yet… why not? Go on, check it out for yourself.

I'm currently on the fifth book of this series. They're light and fluffy reads and good enough for reading for 15 minutes during work breaks. But I wanted to come back to this book and leave a review. I'm left questioning, what was the point of this book?

Um, not too sure how this works on this site, but spoilers.

Is this book a love story? No. Because the main characters already know each other, already love each other, and already know they love each other. Yeah, they had to have a five minute conversation about how they both chose their careers, but now they choose each other.

Was this book about witchy stuff? No. Hope develops telepathy. This has no effect on her. At all. Moving on.

Was this book about solving the drug problem that's sweeping the town? Nope, not it you're following Hope and her gang. They make just enough racket about the drugs to draw attention to themselves so that the drug boss decides to frame them. They aren't the ones to discover who is bringing in drugs and how, the mayor does. The police arrest the drug dealers. Everything about the drugs is solved off screen. If Hope had done absolutely nothing about the drugs, the outcome would have been the same.

Seriously, this book is a poster child for things happening to your protagonist as opposed to the protagonist actively driving the plot. Lucas decides to move back and rekindle their love. Hope goes along with it after some minor fussing. Angela decides to move back to town and act like a mother. Hope is okay with this and puts her up. Telepathy is a birthright that appears. Hope shrugs. People in town are smuggling in, selling, using, and overdosing on drugs. Hope has her Mom and a coffee shop dude investigate.

I guess the one thing Hope actually does do is get the woman spreading rumors about her to stop. So, there's that.

Hope Anderson loves her life. She and her friends, Joy and Grace, met for their monthly gathering on the cliff. It was her turn to make her wish to look 10 years younger. She cast the spell and her friends started laughing. Handing her a mirror, she was horrified! Her hair had turned back to the same haircut and color she had ten years ago… when her hair had been butchered and chopped and streaked and not at all presentable. She had hidden away for a week until she could get it fixed! She couldn’t bear the thought of having to work with her ex, Lucas King, looking like this! Lucas had come back a few weeks ago, and she hadn’t been right since then. In fact, her friends were shocked just now when it became apparent Hope was able to read their thoughts! How embarrassing! Is this the curse her mom told her about?

Hope has so much more on her plate now with Lucas back in town and someone distributing dangerous drugs. Can Hope somehow use her curse to bring down the drug dealers and save Premonition Pointe? And what will she do about Lucas?

I am always overjoyed to read this author’s books! Despite the laughter we are guaranteed to find throughout, there are such great life lessons buried in the pages! We see that this is what friendships are all about – being loved and cared for, and standing always by your side through the good and the bad. These ladies are there for each other and it makes me appreciate my own friends!

Sometimes you find that one person that completes you, you know it and they know it, but there are things in the way that you both have to accomplish alone before you are truly ready to be together, and sometimes it takes some terrible for you to realize it. Hope and Lucas were high school sweethearts, they promised themselves they would also we together, then Lucas went out east for school and Hope refused to go with. Life goes on and now they are both in Premonition Pointe and Lucas knows what he wants but Hope is still mad at him for leaving. Throw in a mid-life change in Hope's witching abilities and then a drug ring in their small town and you have one action packed story.

Deanna Chase is the author of the Premonition Pointe series of which Witching for Hope is the second book. The series focuses on a group of three friends, Grace, Hope and Joy who are in the 40s and life is good but could be better. This is a rich story of friendship and the bonds of three amazing women and what they go through and how it all turns out, all while living in a small town with slight witchy abilities.

I have loved this series. I love the reality of it, and since I was in that age bracket not long ago, it felt comfortable and yet at the same time it challenged me to not think less of myself but to stand strong. These are very strong female characters and they are worthy of the stories the author has given them.

More real women paranormal romance

The second book in Deanna Chase's contribution to Paranormal Women's fiction collection, "Witching for Hope is just as delightful as her first! In this new novel, we meet the second member of the Premonition Pointe coven of witches, Hope. Hope is a successful event planner, independent, financially stable , with no problem finding men willing too meet her need for a little fun without the need for sticky commitments. But her 46th birthday comes with a lot of not so fun circumstances. Her ex, the one -who-got-away, is back in town. Her mother has moved back in with her, and she accidentally spells herself back to a hair style she had 10 years ago with disastrously funny results! But nothing prepares her for the sudden new paranormal skill she is blessed with. Once again Deanna Chase " you think you have problems approach" to the difficulties all women have with encroaching age, transports you to a place where magic mixes with menopause in a very funny way. Again Premonition Pointe is the place I want to grow old in, surrounded by good friends, a sexy lover who treats me as if the sun and moon set in my presence and the town full of wacky loveable characters who make it fun to wake up every morning. Well Done Deanna! I can't wait for book 3, "Witching for Joy"!

Casting the Spell on a new Chapter

Hope isn’t just a event planner she’s also a member of an coven member of Premonition Point who has just learned that she can hear people’s thoughts! But it’s not just about how she can hear them but why she can hear them that has Hope all worked up in this book. Then there’s Lucas a man who has broken her heart not once but twice and has moved back to Premonition Point, and there’s a choice between the two of them, try again or run away. Choices, Choices.
Lots of rumors, scandals and bad decisions are made by others in this town that impact the Hope and her friends. Death and sadness are running rampant in this town as well due to the newly established businesses in Premonition Point, which have become a major tourist attraction. It’s all happening in Premonition Point. If you want to know more I recommend reading this book, it’s full of fun and interesting characters who gossip at the local coffee shops and restaurants. Go walking on the beach and many more things happen in this book.
I can’t spoil it all for you, so read it for yourself and enjoy it.

There is no better book in my opinion which combines romance and mystery. Here is an excellent example of such a book. Hope and Lucas have been in love since their teenage years but circumstances did not allow them to be together until he returned home to Premonition Point! Lucas returns home to open up his own specialty shop of unique pieces of furniture. But that is only part of the reason he returns home. He comes home for his mother who is getting old and because he wants what was his true love years ago, Hope! Now we have the romance being rekindled but the mystery starts on the opening of his shop.
What is really interesting is that Angela who is Hope’s mother has returned home and she has a unique gift. It is this unique gift which helps Hope and her coven solve the mystery of who is selling drugs to the people in town. There are a couple of surprises but love wins out for Hope and Lucas and a couple of dogs!
Such an excellent book and well thought out and written! I love a good mystery but romance is great! Keep up the good work, Ms. Chase!

Hope is just fabulous and her story is pretty great, too.

This is the second book in the series. The first was Grace's story and this one is Hope's story. Lucas, Hope's one and only love is back in Premonition Pointe after many years of being away and he bought the house Hope has always adored (Yeah, she is slightly bitter). She has been hired by Lucas to throw a Grand Opening for his new business. Add in that her Mother, Angela, has just shown up after many years gone as well and Hope's new psychic gift of mind reading and everything is just a mess. Couple that with the fact that people are overdosing on some new drug in town and everything and everyone just became a suspect. This book was awesome, I loved Hope's story, it was well written, fun, snarky and slightly mysterious. The characters are interesting, enduring and relatable. I highly recommend this book and series and am so excited for the next one to be released! I love Deanna Chase, she is an amazing writer and I read ALL of her books!

Hope Anderson is a busy woman. Part of a coven of three, along with her best friends and soul-sisters, Grace and Joy. Hope has also just started an event planning service. To complicate things, her mother unexpectedly arrives in town as does her ex-boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Lucas King. He broke her heart twice before and Grace doesn't want to make it a third time. Hope's mother left her when she was just 18 and Hope hasn't completely forgiven her for abandoning her. Then when Lucas left her not once, but twice, Hope doesn't want to get swept up into his orbit again. But she can't avoid it. After agreeing via emails to plan an open house for a new store in town, Hope discovers her latest gig is her ex's new store.

This is an excellent installment in the new Premonition Point series. I enjoyed getting to know Hope after Grace's story. I can't wait to find out what is in store for the newly separated Joy!

Another light cozy read. We get an explanation for the FMC Hope's new abilities this time, unlike the mystery that was Grace's in the last book, but it's not very satisfactory and she doesn't actually have to learn to cope or live with it. The book just left it as ""

The gossip and drug plots were a bit contrived, and Hope and Lucas's relationship didn't truly have any real dramatic struggles, just lack of communication. Everything was rather easily forgiven.

I still didn't understand how magic and witches were integrated in this world. They both seemed rather disjoint rather than a part of regular society.

I'm curious enough to read about everyone else's story that I'm going to continue with the next book, but I'm not terribly invested or passionate about any of the characters so far.

Hope springs eternal

Ms. Chase does a wonderful job of telling mature, classy and engaging stories about women in the prime of their lives. In book two of her Premonition Pointe series Hope is struggling with feelings for the love of her life, who has returned to town. For good this time. However, her successful event planning business is tanking when rumors begin to fly that she sleeps with potential customers to get work. All of this is happening while young people are dropping like flies all over town after trying a new drug. Oh and on the night she turns forty-six, Hope begins to hear the thoughts of people around her.
This is women's fiction which means the story is much more compelling than the sex that prevails in romance novels. This story fulfills its potential with humor and pain mixed into the everyday things we all had on our pre-pandemic plates.
I look forward to reading the third book in the series.
