Psychologický román napísaný vo forme denníka. Sú to zápisky hlavnej hrdinky Emílie Klaasovej, v ktorých spomína na svoju prvú lásku, snúbenca, s ktorým sa nakoniec rozišla i na svojho terajšieho muža. Akýmsi priesečníkom v denníkových záznamoch je zázračný svet Tichej doliny. Minulosť a prítomnosť viaže nerozdeliteľné puto. Tichá dolina ostáva človeku akousi iluzívnou krajinou, akoby z detského veku, symbolom čistého sveta, symbolom návratov.

i get what it was trying to convey but it could've been half as long if our dear emília wasn't so busy describing a mossy piece of rock for 4 uninterrupted pages, font size 10, in nearly all of her chapters/diary entries...

it's hard not to fall in love with this book, even though it really is a bit too cheesy (an anecdotal review could say that the novel is just a well written soap opera)

the text draws the reader in first by evoking the beauty of Slovak nature and by presenting little mysteries that strengthen the plot (this can be seen as a loose connection to Slovak literary naturism of Švantner or Chrobák), thus developing an emotional link, then it hits back as the story unravels into a well balanced melancholy tale (formed of beauty and sorrow, as it should be)

even though the novel is eclectic (it includes lyrical descriptions of the surroundings, philosophical dialogues concerning the relationship between humankind and nature, numerous digressions in form of small stories, a fairy tale acting as a backbone, obligatory relics of socialistic realism and even a mystery subplot), somehow, everything has it's place and the macro-composition is perfectly capable of evoking a variety of emotional responses that make the reader fully captivated

in the end, it is, what it is - a modern fairy tale built around a classic fairy tale; only one thing remains to be seen - if a fairy tale like this one can still carry at least some weight in the present world

Román je písaný formou denníka a prelína sa s prítomnosťou a minulosťou. Zobrazuje existencionalisticky ladené kritické príhody a osudy obyčajného človeka. To všetko na pozadí druhej svetovej vojny.

Príbeh prerušujú a doplňujú opisy prírody so zľahka využitou tajomnosťou. Ema sa dostala do nemocnice a jej manžel Jozef doma čaká na správu z nemocnice. Nájde jej denník a číta si ho. Keď ho už dočíta zavolajú mu, že jeho milovaná zomrela. Zamotala sa do elektrických prúdov, keď išla skontrolovať poruchu na stavbe.

Jej denník sa vysporiada s jej vlastným vnútorným svetom, jej neľahkým životom, v ktorom zohráva hlavnú úlohu náročné rozhodovanie.

Pretrpela som 450 strán a ona umrela? Umrela?! Najradšej by som tú knihu šmarila von oknom, ale asi by doletela až k susedom a tí by ju zrejme za mňa do knižnice nevrátili.

Prvá polka bola mega nudná, nič sa tam nedialo. Druhá polka na tom bola o niečo lepšie, ale aj tak bolo to čítanie nekonečne dlhé.

This book is amazing mixture of nature beauties, sad love story and building of better tomorrows. For me it was a big good surprise and I enjoyed the dynamics of it. And cried at the end.
