When Mormons Call

Rate this book
When Mormon missionaries come to your door, they have an agenda. They want to give you, your spouse, your children (anyone who will listen), a course of six lessons crafted to get you to abandon the Catholic faith and embrace the Mormon religion. Perhaps people you know (friends, colleagues, relatives) have started the Mormon program of indoctrination. Perhaps they are about to abandon their Catholic faith. Can anything be done? Yes! In this brief but thorough book, you will discover everything you need to rebut what the missionaries say in their six pre-packaged lectures. Armed with this information, you can pull back Catholics tempted to join the Latter Day Saints. Isaiah Bennett dissects the 25 topics covered in the missionaries' lectures. Using his inside knowledge of Mormonism, Bennett packs each short section with the facts you need to show Mormonism's dangers to the people you care about. Each section is filled with Bible verses, passages from Mormon writings, and study pointers. "When Mormons Call: Answering Mormon Missionaries At Your Door" is an easy-to-use handbook that will put missionaries on the defensive. It will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to defend the Catholic faith and demonstrate the errors of Mormonism.

This is the second book on Mormonism by Isaiah Bennett. I haven't read his first one, but I assume it told the narrative story of Bennett's conversion to Mormonism and his conversion back to Catholicism. This book, "When Mormons Call" is arranged as a quick reference guide to pull off the shelf when Mormons actually ring your doorbell and want to talk. There is not much of an attempt here to find common ground and to find the good will in Mormons. This book gives you one side of the story, and, more specifically, gives you the best sticks with which to poke at the Mormon beliefs that most Christians would find strange, repugnant, and indefensible. The book is not overtly mean-spirited, though it is a hit piece on Mormonism. But probably the most devastating criticism against Mormonism comes in Jimmy Akin's afterword, where he points out that the highest goal that Mormons hope to attain, that of becoming exalted gods, is the same promise Satan made to Adam and Eve in the garden when he tempted them to disobey God in order to become like gods. Yikes. I read through the book utterly fascinated to see what strange belief came next, but also with a guarded sense of anticipation, imagining the counterattack or a similar style hit piece against the Church. I don't know what good effects attacking someone's beliefs can produce, but if the best defense is a good offense, this book gives you the best offense to counter Mormon evangelists at the door.

Well written diagnosis of Mormon beliefs from a Catholic perspective. Dude, it’s nuts.
