WARNING: If you are uncomfortable or easily offended by torture, of any kind, as well as swearing, assault themes, violence, and graphic sex, then this book may not be for you. If you are fine with all of the above, then I appreciate you taking the chance and purchasing this book. I look forward to your opinions and reactions. Enjoy!
At the young age of twelve reading became an enjoyable past time and not a punishment. Driven by the need to produce a work that not only challenges the status quo of romantic fiction, but enriches it-- several books were born and many more to come. Travena enjoys the creative nature of building her own world and allowing whatever beautiful chaos to unfold. Travena has always been driven to the arts and is proficient in playing several instruments. She enjoys tea over coffee and looks forward to introducing you to dark, sexy characters that make you swoon and sometimes may make you shout. Travena lives in the south with her mother and brother and is very excited to be signed to Jessica Watkins Presents. Travena's books are edgy, dark, light, and where her dreams of a consuming, uncompromising love come to ink.

STORY: SOOOooooo, I would love to be a fly on the wall as this book was being written. I enjoyed the ride, literally, but also had my moments with it as well.
Asa was a tall glass of water. That man’s bravado was everything in this book as it oozes from this book. Because I was listening to the audio, I think the narrator, Sean Crisden, brought him to life in that I will drop panties for you anywhere voice. I enjoyed hearing his I don’t give a f*£@ attitude because I play by my rules slowly becomes annihilated by Elise just being herself. Elise, watching her unsure of herself to being bold and breaking away from her past was good to see. Her opening scene all the way to the end, you definitely see a change. I had moments when I was turned on, when I was laughing and when I got so caught up into the story and seeing Asa at “work”.
With all that being said, I felt as though the middle of the story felt a bit repetitive. When the met they had an agreement for 4 days of do whatever we want sex, awesome. It’s when they reconnected in Florida I felt it was repetitive of their 4 day agreement and I felt myself loosing interest only but for a moment.
CHEMISTRY: Sexually, these two came to play and class was in session. Their sex got graphic and at times it was explosive, which made me love their chemistry. However, I love me some sex scenes, but my own coochie started to hurt from all that sex. For me personally, when it’s in consecutive rotation I become drain mentally and physically and it could feel repetitive. Now I don’t want to sound like an oxymoron because obviously with their 4 day agreement that was to be expected. When the scenes took us in Florida, they couldn’t get enough each other and that’s when I felt bored a bit.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: So of course of course Asa and Elise took up 98% of this book, but we managed to get a couple of people in that was interesting.
J - Asa “co-worker” very interesting and I believe he has a book, looking forward to reading that as well. He was the only person Asa was able to confide in throughout the book.
Manny- Elise’s best friend. I don’t know what to think of him. He was ok but still made you wonder at times.
OVERALL, I enjoyed the read, and found myself wanting more of this author’s work.
✰✰TRIGGERS: Violence, torture, talks of abuse and attempted rape.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
Y’all sorry I’m long-winded but I REALLY enjoyed this story.
Asa, a dom with a secret profession is unfulfilled with his current lifestyle. While working a bodyguard job at a hotel in Chicago he crosses paths with Elise, a writer who always wanted more sexually, but curbs her desires after a traumatic relationship with her Ex. Asa and Elise connected immediately and made the decision to date and explore each other during the time Elise is in town.
Asa and Elise were so damn good together. They were explosive. I liked how she didn’t care about his money or material things, she just craved the way he made her feel. The exchange of power in their relationship was just freaking beautiful. It just flowed you know. The trust that they developed in that short period of time just felt right. It felt like they were made specifically to satisfy and bring out the best in each other. It was a treat to see how being with each other allowed them to morph into their true self. And the sex! Goodness gracious. It was spanking hot! I smiled while reading because it felt good reading such an erotic treasure with a black couple.Whew! It was sexy. I didn’t want those scenes to end. I wanted to know more about safe words.I envisioned myself being tied up LoL. It was delicious, raunchy, nasty and I loved it.
After their time together, it was obvious they didn’t want to leave each other. I feel this was a pivotal time for both of them. Elise used this time to achieve her goals and become the confident women she was meant to be. The one that her ex or best friend didn’t think was inside of her. Speaking of her ex, he got exactly what he deserved. Asa also realized that multiple women could never take place of the one that gave him everything that he need. The one that moved him to submit.
This story drew me in from the first page and I never looked back. I had no expectations going in but let me tell you, I got blown away. It was very detailed, developed and well written. It had an intriguing storyline with some heavy themes but the author did a great job balancing it with humor, steam and passion.I headed to google multiple times reading -because learning is fundamental right? I was eager to learn more about Asa’s nickname and I had to know the definition of the new words that I picked up 😜. While this story was entertaining, I didn’t expect Elisa’s reaction to Asa’s secret. I guess because I’m extra and theatrical, I expect everyone to react the same 🤷🏾♀️😜. I was satisfied with the ending and the story as a whole. You definitely cannot tell this is the first book for this author and I am definitely fangirling over her work.If you want a steamy hot slightly twisted black erotica tale , READ THIS BOOK. In a world full multiple-parts series, this full length stand-alone novel will not disappoint.
Well this was epic and sexy and a little bit crazy. But I had a great time.
Lots of fun kinky times.
Hero is a contract killer and the heroine is a teacher and author. They meet on her vacation in Chicago and they have 4 sexy nights together with no strings.
Until they want more... Also, this was a Black Love Romance. 🥰🥰
I must be the exception because, I did not like this book. I am truly baffled at all of the 5-star reviews because, this book is definitely not 5-star worthy. Lets start with the audio version. I started listening to Pensive yesterday. I got as far as chapter nine (the chapters are very short) before I gave up because, the female narrator was so horrible. Lacey Laurel is NOT a good narrator at all and I really wish authors would stop using her. She talks through her nose which makes her voice raspy, she can’t do a decent male voice to save her life, and all of her female characters sound the same. Not even Sean Crisden could save this book and I love him. Lacey Laurel was so bad, I bought the Kindle version just so I could actually finish the book. Do know how bad your performance has to be if the reader stops listening to an audiobook and buys the e-Book to read instead?!!! I guarantee you this is the last book I ever buy with Lacey Laurel as the narrator. I don’t care who the author is. But, the joke was on me because I purchased the Kindle version only to find out the book was as bad as the narrators. Pensive was horribly written and story line was corny. This was the worst G-rated erotica book I have ever read. The story line was disorganized and it didn’t come together well at all. Some of the dialogue was all over the place and the conversations between the characters tended to ramble. I didn’t like Elise and Asa as a couple at all. Their attraction seemed forced. I couldn’t reconcile Elise being this supposed shy college professor who’s into BDSM behind closed doors. I mean, I’ve read this type of story line before in other books but, it just didn’t work for me in Pensive. The story eventually became repetitive and boring. The sex scenes were meh at best that I skipped through a lot of them. That says a lot because I NEVER skip through sex scenes. On top of the corny story line and the boring sex scenes, the writing was bad. It was a struggle to finish this book. Several times, I put my iPad down and was like, “I’m done” but, since I have two versions of this book, I decided not to waste my money and finish it. As a rule, I don't return books but, Pensive is definitely getting returned. I will not waste a credit on a book that was as bad as this one. This was my first book by Trevena Terry and, I can honestly say, it will be the last.
This story blew my freaking mind! It was erotic to the 9th degree and just so g’ damn good. Pensive is the perfect name for this book. Travena Terry and her hero and heroine Asa and Elise had me captivated from the beginning of the book to the end. There wasn’t a dull moment between Asa and Elise. Everything they did had a meaning, and the actions made them both realize something new about themselves.
You have Elise, who has been hiding behind a protective shield due to a horrific relationship. Then there is Asa, who just didn’t see the need to love someone outside of his family. Elise had desires that she had never acted upon before and found herself in a proposition with the right person who could fulfill those desires and make her realize who she was all along. He gave her space to breathe but at the same time made her feel secure in who she was and protected without being overbearing. Then there is Asa, a man who usually just sought out women for his sexual needs and nothing beyond that. But meeting and being with Elise showed him something new, and she proved to him that only she can give him what he truly was missing from his life.
I have to admit this is one of the best books I’ve read this year, and I am really looking forward to more from Travena Terry. The sex scenes will leave you hot, and her writing is so descriptive that you couldn’t help but picture it all in your mind. Asa and Elise took a life of their own and were the most intricate pair I’ve read in a long time. I love complicated, and this book gave me that and more!
This was a good read. I wasn’t expecting the storyline or these two, Asa and Elise, to be a thing. Asa was so secretive and meticulous with everything that he did. Elise was battling over a breakup and letting her walls down. What should have been a four-day fling, turned into so much more. But, let me say, there was a few times when I had to look over my shoulder like I would get in trouble for reading this. Those love scenes were hot!!! 🔥wow! Lol! I thought it was so cool that Asa fell for Elise like he did, it was cute, and he didn’t try to hide it. The flow was good and I loved reading about the relationship with these two. It was a natural flow—nothing seemed forced. I enjoyed this one! This author came out the gates swinging! Whew!
First time read from this author and I was not disappointed. Loved the relationship between the H and h and how it developed. The sex screens are hotttt and their chemistry was off the charts. Can’t wait for another book.
"One a-holes preference shouldn't dictate how you feel about your body. Let his preference and his cowardice go. He doesn't deserve any more space in your head." Asa
Asa's and Elise's story was erotic, romantic and intense. They came into each other's lives not realizing that they both would be providing something the other didn't even realize they needed. Elise didn't realize that she needed his strength. Asa didn't realize that he needed her to show him it was okay to be the receiver of love, lust and all the things in between. I saw so much of myself in Asa that it was unnerving. The author did such a good job of developing the characters and their relationship. She took great care in allowing it to grow and transform organically albeit to the dismay of Elise. I was a little impatient and wanted the story to move a little faster at times, but that is a testament to the author's creative skill. I wanted more and even when I felt like my need was satiated, I wanted more still. As someone who has been involved in d/s relationships previously, I appreciated the research or maybe the personal experience the author lent to this story. If you like romance with your erotica and a side of violence this story is for you. I loved Asa's profession.
This was book was simply amazing,I couldn't put it down....Asa n Elise relationship started off good n when they meet back up 6months later it turn into a living got sexy relationship.....I wish the epilogue was a lil more detailed tho other wise amazing wrk🔥💙😍
Asa and Elise had me from the very beginning. The sex was hot between the two. Asa was able to recognize that he had to handle her differently. He could see that she had her walls up but he had no idea that he would fall as hard as he did. I would recommend this book.
I would definitely have to get this on paperback. It needs to be part of my library. I enjoyed Asa and Elise story. It is highly recommended. I will end it there.
Trigger Warning: There is mention of torture in this book and it is descriptive/bodily harm, sexual assault, and abuse as well as BDSM material. These are serious topics that everyone may not be able to handle reading, please read this book with caution if you choose to do so.
Where to begin. This story follows two MC's: Asa and Elise. Asa is a contract killer and kills/tortures criminals who commit sexual assault. Elise is a on the way to becoming a professor and she is also a skilled writer working on publishing her first erotic novel. Elise and Asa first see each other in a hotel after a sharing a moment of intense staring at one another that leads them both to wondering about each other. As fate would have it, they wind up at the same bar and instantly dive into real and transparent conversation. Asa finds out that Elise is only in town (Chicago) for 4 days, and decides that he wants to wine and dine her and make all of her desires come true and Elise agrees to this very no strings attached arrangement after dealing with a past break up.
Over time, Elise and Asa realize that with each climax and Big O they bring each other to, their "no strings attach" agreement crosses into more serious territory. Their emotions allow them to connect in a way that shocks them both and ultimately leads them to making some life changing decisions. Character wise, I loved Elise's development. We see her start off as a weary, and unsure woman, and as time goes on, she makes her own decisions that give her back her own control and power. We see her change from seeing herself small, and realizing that the woman she wanted to become and the things she wanted to achieve, never were dependent upon who she was or was not with. Asa was one extremely interesting character. He was the type that claimed he had no room for love or emotions because it made things tricky, and he wanted a simple life. Throughout the entire book, he remains a dominant character, strong, and unmovable, however, Elise was the one thing that made him vulnerable. He wanted to protect her and show her a good life. He was a Dom, and so he constantly demanded Elise do certain things, but Elise was a strong woman and she constantly challenged him and I loved that.
The romance was sexy and sweet and it was honest and I loved the way Travena created an open dialogue between the two of them and didn't leave room for miscommunication. That is a rarity in romances at times. There were a few things that I do want to note that I feel like people should think about. The first one is about sexual health. In this story, both Elise and Asa discusses each others' sexual status and whether they are STD free. However, the verbiage that was used was "are you clean?" I am not a fan of this type of language because it's important to understand the message you're sending. Are you telling your readers that, if you are not negative for all tests that you are "dirty"? This is something to think about to lessen the stigma around sexual health. I did, however, enjoy the consensual language in this book. Discussing statuses with partners is important and I appreciate that it was a part of the story. Though Asa was a Dom, he did ask for permission before their activities. The only other thing I think should be omitted from the story is the amount of time that "cinnamon/cinnamon" and "chocolate" eyes. It was mentioned on almost every other page, so I think less of that would be best.
Overall, I was loving this story and it was honestly unlike anything I had ever read before.
Elise was spending some time in Chicago at an event. In her first night, she saw gorgeous Asa and couldn't keep her eyes off him. Later that evening, Asa saw her in the bar and went and introduced himself to her. He asked her out and she agreed. While out he propositioned her to spend the next four days with him and she accepted. They spent time together and Elise had the best sex of her life. Once the time was up, she returned home and they didnt speak again. Six months later and Asa was missing Elise and decided to do something about it. He went after Elise and told her he missed her, but she missed him as well. He decided to stay with her for awhile and his feelings changed and they fell in love, but he had a secret. This story was good, from the beginning to the end. It had great sex, a handsome dangerous man and a woman who overcame her past hurts and did I say hot sex. I loved it and didnt want to stop reading it. This was a great book by Travena and I'm waiting to see what's next. I would love to read about his friend J, ijs!!!!
I have the 5 star because it was so well written. But I feel like I just read a bunch of sex.. I mean it was so much sex. Every chapter and ever other page ..It' was sooooo.. 50 shades of gray-ish. It's a love story for sure but so BDSM. It was so explicit and the scenes were so well executed that you can vividly picture it. I almost felt like a voyeur. First time I read this author so I'm about to go read her other book to see how I feel about her😂😂😂.. No but, for real I feel kink-ish my dang self.. So many times I clutched my invisible pearls... All I can say is... If your real life is lacking in that department but, you wanna get it poppin' in your head... This the book for you. It comes with a warning for a reason.. But I still wasn't ready lmao.
This book was so good that it was hard to put down! Elise spots Asa and couldn’t help but to stare at his domineering statue. Soon she becomes undone by just the touch of Asa. He was putty in her hands and as much as they both claimed to want anything to do with a relationship, Asa was quick to do many boyfriend duties. He was a true alpha male when it came to Elise and her safety. He was attentive to her needs and made sure she wanted for nothing. Because of her past abusive relationship it was hard at first to go over the boundaries she created to protect her heart. Elise kept Asa at a distance, coming to the conclusion that if she didn’t know anything personal about him, she was fine. But as she spent more time with Asa, trying to avoid falling in love with him and vice versa was impossible. This book was filled with fire and intensity and the characters were very likable. STEAMY Chile!🥵😂. Overall I love Travena’s writing, it’s concise and the book was well written. This is my first book that I’ve read by her but it won’t be the last.
I recently finished reading this book and thought it was fantastic from start to finish. The story line is captivating enough to glue your eyes to the pages as you read a story that has every element you could want from a good book. The story gives the reader a chance to see and feel the thoughts and emotions of each of the main characters and the non-sexual aspects of the book feel like a real story in a real setting you can easily drop into. Character development is spectacular and the sexual/romance scenes are written in a way you can see and feel what you are reading in a sensual way. From the first to the last page this book provides the suspense, lust, and a story line that will leave you wanting more content from such a great new author.
Synopsis: While traveling from Miami to Chicago for a conference Elise meets Asa who she just couldnt resist. Asa presents Elise with a proposal that allows her to be his for four days and when she leaves to go back home they never speak again, but can they really let each other go?
Listen I did not expect this book to be what it was, but OMG this book kept me on edge the entire time. Asa was a contract killer whose sex life was based on BDSM and getting to know Elise was a first for him but he couldnt resist her innocence. Elise was a year out of an abusive relationship but there was something about Asa that she was drawn to. Elise craved sexual freedom and wanted to explore BDSM. Asa was able to pick up on her vibes and introduced her to BDSM and was able to fulfill all her her fantasies she wrote about in her book.
Man Asa had me thinking about a little BDSM lol. I loved how Asa just up and moved to Miami for Elise, he was so possessive and it was sexy as hell. This was a great read I might have to read this again or listen to it on audible.

DEFINITELY WORTH READING This book was just beautiful. Asa was sweet, sexy and danger wrapped in one package and he found a strong and intelligent woman to match him. I think I might have liked Asa more than J lol I like that Travena does not writes her book with the heroine being in a position where the hero had to help her financially. That was a major point here. As for Randy, he got what he deserved... piece of sh** I was so happy that Elise found a man who got her, supported her and didn’t get in his feelings when she did not want to do things his way. Travena this was truly an amazing book. I’ve now read both of your books and I’m impressed, now I can’t wait to see what goodies you have in store for us
I was thoroughly surprised by Pensive. Most of the romance books I've read have had heavily predictable characters and storylines. This book, however, was a breath of fresh air for the romance novel world. The fact Asa was a contract killer and also into BDSM was a brilliant combination. The sex scenes were out of this world. I could not put down the book. I am looking forward to reading more of Travena's works.

I enjoyed reading this book so much! I couldn't put my kindle down! I enjoyed Elise and Asa journey to love! I enjoyed the storyline and the chemistry between them! It was scorching hot! Such a fantastic and outstanding book!
First book by this writer and I love everything about this story, the sex and love scenes were very good. When we love we are able to do so much more, this is a story you will enjoy
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Loved the characters and the storyline. Just goes to show you, that you can find love in the most unexpected places and people.
Great character development, the relationship progressed like normal no instant love. Intriguing story line! Enjoyed the push and pull of the characters personalities.
I love a great story with a hot alpha male, and Asa is all that and more. I love how he evolved during the story. And even though Elise had gone through hell, she managed to get through it and become her best self. They were great for each other and the perfect couple.
