by RaShelle Workman

Twelve swooning candidates. One handsome prince. To pass her magical fairytale, Catriona must get the prince to fall for her royal contender despite her own feelings for him. Each year the graduating class of the Fairytale Academy must complete a final exam. Issued by the head mistress, the test is specific to the student, depending on whether they are on the Royal, Underlings, or Nyght track. As an Underling, Catriona is required to assist her Royal charge in winning the hand of the prince. That means competing with several other royal possibilities and their maids. The winner gets her choice of jobs in the kingdom. If she loses, her stepmother will banish her.Never mind that the prince kissed Catriona or that she’s secretly spending lots of time with him. She isn’t of royal blood and therefore doesn’t qualify as a candidate. She knows her place, even if the prince doesn’t.And then there’s something going on with the Nyght students. One of them is a shifter and he tells Catriona that all is not as it seems at the Academy. Not only that but her fairy godmother believes Catriona has a magical destiny that has nothing to do with falling in love with the prince. Will Catriona risk failing her fairytale by following her heart or choose the life her fairy godmother wants for her?♥♥♥ Royal Selection is the first book in the bestselling Fairytale Academy series. This is a really great Cinderella reimagining. There are some fun nods to the Disney version and other references and plot points to tie it to the original. Beyond that, it is it's own story. The academy aspect, while being a main plot mover, is not overwhelming. I really appreciate that because I'm a bit over the academy setting. There aren't any over done tropes. It is refreshing and highly enjoyable.

3.5 stars. The romance was a little too much for me and there were quite a few typos, which was distracting. It was a fun story though. I liked the twist on Cinderella and will read the next one. Catriona was a very kind, loving, and forgiving character. I appreciated that she didn’t talk bad about others and was full of grace.

As always Rachelle Workman did not let me down! Yet another book I could not put down! The characters in this book are ones that I want to know much more about. The only downfall of the book is having to wait for the next one in the series to continue the story. I highly recommend any of Rachelle Workman's books for a great read
