It’s been a year since the nuclear world war that brought down all societies and made survival the common goal. Safe Haven Refugee Camp has been there for all of it. People have come and gone, leaving an unforgettable mark on those around them. The dead are uncountable. The survivors are few. It was a hard, new world, where those left behind had to fight extinction. That hasn’t changed. But this time, Safe Haven isn’t waiting for the threat to find them and endanger their fragile peace. This time, the Eagles are going into the fire together. The International Detention Center is the last western bastion of the enemy. It has to be destroyed and no one else can do it. If Safe Haven wins this fight, only clearing the island remains. If they lose the sea battle, it’s all over for America and maybe, for all humanity.Length: 826 PagesNumber: Book Thirteen
I enjoyed the book, but am finding too much description and unnecessary reading in the story line. No wonder her books are huge reads. Gave it four stars as it could have been better without the draw out effect. Not sure if I will finish the series at this time…..need some lighter reading
Last two books in the series just haven’t been the same
I’ve loved this series from the beginning and really looked forward to new releases. But the storylines have changed and it’s become so dark. Most of this book was about them doing “recharging “ and it was long, drawn out without any of the normally fun storyline intermixed. Why and how they learned to do it is never really explained.
But the biggest problem I have is that the joy is gone. The storyline is so dark and has been the last few books. Safe Haven has lost it’s light and I don’t like most of the characters anymore. Angela is an angry bitch, Mark has turned into a narcissistic ass and even Jennifer Is less like-able. The only characters that lighten things up are Dog, the cats and even Ken.
If I’d read this book first in the series or even the last book I wouldn’t have continued. I sure hope book 14 has some light in it again and there’s some happier times for all of Safe Haven. Maybe it’s because of Covid 19 and the world around us going to hell but all that darkness without the light Safe Haven has is too much. It would have been only 1 star if I hadn’t loved the series so much. Hoping for better things in the next book.
This was another detailed story in the post-apocalyptic series, where, after the ravages of war, people try to survive all manner of horrors. However, I wonder if humans are worth saving. The descendants of Safe Haven attempt to help the survivors, but seem to be thwarted at every turn...fear mainly being the culprit. Nothing, however, is ever enough for these selfish people. Supposedly sent by the 'creator' to save humans, it seems the descendants have had enough of being unappreciated. I am not sure what the future holds.
The idea of the descendants and their gifts intrigues me and I now understand why the 'normals' are thought of as sheep.
This book was engaging, disturbing and fascinating and I am eager to see what happens next.
My wife and I have been faithful readers of the LAW series and author from day one. This book (13) was boring for @70% of the content. How many pages can you stretch a book to by writing about re-charging? The answer is in this book and it’s way to many!
If this book was used to determine my reading the series or anything else by the author I would not have even finished this book which is extremely rare for me. I gave a review rating of three primarily due to the previous books and LAW series.
The island awaits and hope reawakens.... The International Detention Center has been destroyed and its prisoners liberated. Many of Safe Haven's enemies have been vanquished or killed but some thought to be gone have survived to plot anew.... HEAs are still possible but just not as those involved had expected or planned....The plot continues to twist, turn, and thicken delightfully....
This book was better than LAW 12. Overall however, the series is turning into a soap opera. It is taking longer and longer for anything significant to happen and the drama is soaring out of control. It feels like the idea was to hit a page count more so than telling a captivating story. (I rated this 3 stars simply for the fact that I really enjoyed the first 10 books.)
From the first book to this one I’ve traveled with them. You get to love and hate the characters. As far as survivor series goes, these books are best I’ve read so far. It’s too long waiting for the next book because you want to continue thru to final peace for the people.
Mark is leading now while Angela heals. the team is healing
Angela has given Marc the leadership as she heals. She knows this is what he needs to learn how to lead fully. It is also a time of learning for all. A time to face the past and future. Even the dirty parts. Then its time to face the battle that could end everything
This series is my all time favorite! When a new book comes out, I drop everything and devour it. This one was incredible; the story just flowed and I was drawn in, as I always am with the LAW series. Love it!
I am so addicted to this series that I pause reading other books as soon as a new edition is released! Just wondering why Angela changed to LA. I guess I must have missed the announcement. No worries. I need to know how this turns out!
Another great book in the LAW series. There are lots of sub plots that take you on a journey within the storyline. It's a long book , but plenty to keep you interested. Another great ending leaving you wanting more and the next book
I'm still going, but the series is getting odd. And so many things are not really explained. The descendents may be able to understand things with only a few words mentioned, but it's getting too complex for us normals. Plus, the theology is getting very weird.
The 13Th book in the series ,all with 700 or more pages and the author is STILL on a roll ! Definitely the best series I've read and I've read A LOT!!!!
The story of the leftovers from America continues. All the people are here, on the ship, headed for Pitcairn Island. I only spotted two editing errors in this volume.
