Excitement is in the air at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office as the date approaches for investigator Larry Macklin’s wedding to his long-time love, Cara. But fate has other plans and Larry soon finds his personal life taking a backseat to an odd duo of murders.
Larry and his partners, Darlene and Pete, are quickly caught up in a convoluted web of strange cliques, financial intrigue and a woman on the run. An eccentric young volunteer for the position of Larry’s new confidential informant only adds to the confusion.
Then all hell breaks loose during an attempt to question a suspect and Larry finds himself suspended from the department. Can things get any worse before the most important day of his life?

Sheriff's Investigator Larry Macklin is about to be married ... if he can solve his murder cases in time, leaving his fiancee to basically the wedding arranged without his help.
A woman is found bludgeoned to death. Her car is missing, but ID is found. A few days later, another woman, another death, but now comes the twist. The two women have the same name. A third woman disappears the same day.
Dividing the investigations among Larry and his partners, Pete and Darlene. They all think there's a connection, but what is it? While one woman is described as well-liked and outgoing, the other woman is a loner, quiet, set in her ways.
Because Larry does not back down from an unhelpful suspect, Larry finds himself suspended .... but on the bright side, his fiancee gets some help.
This is a terrific series! I highly recommend starting as the very beginning, but know that this one reads easily as a stand alone. The characters are all finely drawn and it's been fun watching how they have changed over time. I love how they all interact with each other...and Mauser does play a cameo role. The book, as all of them in this series, is well written with a cleverly written mystery.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime/mystery. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I was hooked after reading the first book! A. E. Howe makes Larry a real person. He isn't perfect but none of us our. My son wanted a mystery. I just sent him book 1.
Bought this series on a friend's recommendation and though the pacing was slower than my usual reading, I found the book well-written and getting to know Larry Macklin was a treat. He's surrounded by all types of characters as every good LEO should be. His department is as diverse as the ones I'm locally familiar with and the twists and turns in this one were intriguing. Looking forward to another episode because I think this series is one I'll enjoy. A very good read.
I love the twists and turns in this book, except that I am never surprised. Larry’s character is amazing if a little dominated by Cara. Cara needs to grow up! She’s with a police officer!! Love Mauser. If you like whodunnits, this is a good one with a minimal amount of language, which I appreciate!!
Having read the complete series, I Didn't realize that I had missed this earlier one. Very complex story that plays like a serial killer. Lots of murder and diverse characters lead the group of investigators to several bad guys but not the murderer. It all ends with the wedding.
The book was awesome. It kept the reader wondering who the killer was and how they were all connected. Also the added wedding plans added suspense whether or not the.groom would be able to get married.
Ask before, Larry macklin was able to do a combination Of fantastic breakthroughs And small bumbling's to make a realistic murder mystery Out of The work up to his wedding!
Another intense, drama filled, mystery by Howe. Larry is running around frantically trying to solve murders at the same time preparing for his wedding. All craziness prevails.
A big swing and a miss with this one. Glad to see Larry and Cara finally tie the knot but this thriller limped all the way through before it mercifully ended......... Hope next book in series rebounds.
I'M SO GLAD LARRY & CARA HAVE MADE THEIR UNION OFFICIAL, THEY'RE SUCH A GREAT COUPLE. I WAS WORRIED HE WOULD GET INJURED BEFORE THE WEDDING BUT HE DIDN'T. YAY! I COULD ONLY FIGURE OUT ONE PART OF THIS ONE, HAD TO WAIT TILL THEY PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. ;D
Onward to 14 this one got me all the romance dancing around! Everything was meant to be all at once changing but the same. Circle of life gotta say it’s catchy…..
Another good read in the Larry Maklem series Story is entertaining throughout and keeps you in suspense through the end of the book. L99oing forward to the next in the series. Maybe we'll start off with the honeymoon.
Another great read by one of my favourite authors A.E. Howe. Spring's Promises is the 13 book in this entertaining series and a lucky number 13 in my view. I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. to finish the story and considering that I am normally getting up at 5:00 a.m., that a big deal for me! Now the only challenge is book #14 isn't due out for another whole year. Great story, Cheers Lynda L. Lock (Isla Mujeres Mysteries).
Awwwww now I must wait for another year for the next book
Thank you to A. E. Howe for penning another head-scratcher.
Reading this series is similar to spending quality time with friends - not soul mates, but good friends, companionable, decent and, within the circle, drama-free.
What I like best about A. E. Howe's Larry Macklin series is the human element woven into the mysteries. Larry is a character you can't help rooting for, and to watch him fall in love, and deal with new partners in the midst of solving the latest murder is what makes the story for me. And who can't love a character like Mauser? I can't wait for the next installment.
I've read all of the books in this series and have thoroughly enjoyed every one. I can get lost for hours with Larry Macklin and all the folks from Adams County. Highly recommend this entertaining read!!
This story was brimming with tension and anticipation. Between wedding planning and murders piling up, the characters are in constant action. As a Larry Macklin fan, this is a top favorite.
I have waited for next book since I read the first book. Since it will be a while for the next book to come out I will have to start reading the p other books he has written.
I am definitely a tremendous fan of the Larry Macklin series! The stories and the characters are tremendously interesting and then, of course, there is Mauser! I highly recommend!
The plot was interesting, but for me there was WAY too much time spent on the boring wedding planning. I ended up fast-forwarding through multiple pages at a time just to get back to the murders and the investigation, until I finally gave up and quit reading altogether. Disappointing.
