Love, Secret Santa

Rate this book
All I want for Christmas is . . . you! A festive clean teen romance that could melt even Scrooge's heart!

It's nearly Christmas, but Angel Green isn't celebrating - she's too busy studying for a scholarship exam. On top of that, she's organising her school's charity fundraising campaign to help a local hospice. Unfortunately, her fundraising partner is Caspar Johnson: handsome, creative and fun, but TOTALLY unreliable.

Thank goodness for her Secret Santa who keeps leaving her amazing presents, including an intriguing hand-made advent calendar! Angel is dying to find out who her secret admirer is . . .

As they spend time together planning festive events, Angel realises that Caspar has hidden depths - and a secret that he's hiding behind his easy-going facade. Her advent calendar encourages Angel to take risks and open her heart - but has she left it too late to tell Caspar how she really feels?

SUPER COZY E FOFO E NATALÍCIO E FOFO E FOFINHO!

Daqui a uns dias venho cá escrever a review (irá sair primeiro no bookstagram)

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

I read this book back during October Half Term, when it wasn't exactly the time for a Christmassy read, but the nights were starting to draw in, and I was in the mood for a nice contemporary read. Love, Secret Santa was a UKYA that, honestly, I didn't know much about when I first requested it, but I was drawn in from the first page, and I'm glad I was off work, as I couldn't put the book - or rather, phone - down to stop reading. Our main character, Angel, isn't really in a festive mood yet. She's studying for a prestigious scholarship exam, and anything else will just take away from their studies. However, she is also conscientious and charitable, and had signed up to help with the school fundraiser, and is paired with once close, but now estranged friend, Caspar. Wanting to discover just why Caspar started to pull away from her when they started secondary school, she realises that they can be just as close as they always were, just with the complication of some pesky feelings thrown in. To top it all off, while Angel is dealing with her rediscovered feelings for Caspar, a secret admirer, using the guise of Secret Santa, has stepped onto the scene, which is too much for Angel to handle.

I really enjoyed Angel, and wish I had had this book when I was her age. Everything about the book just reminded me of times when I was at school, and Angel was exactly like a true teenager, and not an imagined one. She was real, with real issues, and real feelings. Everything about the book was diverse, from the cast of characters, the sexualities, and the situations. Like I said, this book reflects reality so well, and all British teenagers should read it.

The romance was a slow burn, and the fact that Angel and Caspar had once been friends who reunited and fell for each other, made it even better. Some aspects of the plot were a little far fetched, and the identity of the Secret Santa was a bit obvious, but all in all, I really enjoyed it, and it's definitely a book to get into the festive spirit.

This is exactly what it promises to be: a very cute Christmas romcom. It actually reminded me a little of To All the Boys I've Loved Before, with two childhood friends starting to hang out again after having grown apart for a bit.

It was a quick read, and I mostly enjoyed it. I especially liked the Secret Santa aspect of it, which was really cute. I have to admit the writing style didn't really work for me, though. It felt a little forced and took me out of the story pretty often.

I did think it was great to see that most, if not all, of the characters are people of colour!

No, jdu si teď pustit něco vánočního na netflixu...

This book was meh...
I did not like the writing style of it, and the story felt awkward for some reason.
I also had no relationship with any of the characters. The author had a great opportunity to write from different character's perspectives, which in my opinion would make the novel a lot better.

This was a story of a study intensive young girl who opens herself up to new opportunities when she receives and advent calendar with hidden prompts to do each day.

I really enjoyed the slow build of the young romance and the lovely ideas that the author had about what schools organised over the festive period.

This was a lovely YA Christmas read that I could 100% see as one of those feel good Christmas Netflix films you look forward to watching, well written and definitely put me in the Christmas spirit.

Would recommended to anyone wanting an easy read to escape into over Christmas and I will be buying a copy to give to my bookish friends at Christmas!

Thanks to net galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was sugary sweet, and almost like reading a cute christmas movie. The perfect YA read for the holidays. The easy and gentle nature of the story, lends itself well to sitting down with a hot chocolate and devouring the book in one sitting. It was also lovely to read a book with plenty of diversity!

There is nothing hugely surprising in terms of twists and plot lines, but if you are looking for a seasonal read that makes you feel warm and fuzzy, this is the book!

let's say the book was probably too childish for me. Who's Angel's Secret Santa was clear almost immediately, just like everything else. I just missed any moment of surprise there. I probably would have liked the book more if I was 13 again, but I can't give more than 3 stars now.

S.A. Domingo's YA debut is a cute romance perfect for the holidays. Angel Green doesn't have time for love, she's too busy studying to get a scholarship to medical college. But this Christmas, she suspects her Secret Santa might also be a secret admirer, and as she spends more time working on a charity fundraiser with popular boy Casper, she's not so sure she doesn't want romance after all.
I really liked Angel. She was positive and hard-working, always kind and enthusiastic. It was great to see her conquer her insecurities and find the happiness she deserved. I loved the portrayal of her relationship with her mum, which was so genuine, sweet and loving. It's good to see a character in YA who is so close with her parents and really treats them as a friend. Talking of friends, Angel's friends made for awesome secondary characters. Izzy and Ola both had awesome, unique personalities and I appreciated how they were always there to love and support Angel. I can definitely see a spin-off with one of them as the main character.
Casper was such a great love interest, and I couldn't help but like his softness and generous personality. He was so sweet and kind to everyone, especially Angel, and I really appreciated having a love interest that wasn't the "bad boy". He liked football but was also so passionate about art, which was awesome to see. His character definitely seemed so vibrant when doing art which was just so pure.
The romance between these two was a super cute friends-to-lovers story that made me smile a lot! They were such a sweet couple with their awkward moments, insecurities and genuine love for each other. The Secret Santa storyline was really adorable and thoughtful.
The storyline was so cute and I loved the buildup of Angel and Casper's romance and the casual flirting. The plot was quite predictable and there was not much in the way of plot twists or surprises, but I enjoyed the story none the less and found it fun and entertaining.
It's definitely great to see UKYA by authors of colour and a romance like this with two main characters of colour is great to see! There's a great line where Angel says how much she loves her brown skin which was important and so lovely.
Love, Secret Santa was a cutesy, light read perfect for the holidays, and I'd definitely recommend it for a bit of feel-good romance to make you feel warm inside this Christmas.

This one was a little slow to start but found it's groove towards the middle. This is a clean teen romance. So if you enjoy those cute Christmas movies you see on TV you may want to check this story out. It's about Angel who is a teen girl in the UK who is busy prepping for the holidays, running fundraisers who the hospice, and studying for exams. I love her close relationship with her mother and that we experience Angel adjusting to her mother dating again after her father's passing.

I also liked that Angel is a black girl of African heritage but her race was never really apart of the narrative. She has brown skin and wears braids and sometimes her mother made her favorite stew but this book didn't try to teach us about her culture. She just got to be a normal teen who spent time with her friends who the majority were POC. And despite not having a lot of money wasn't dirt poor and struggling.

My biggest critique was that their could've been a little more conflict. I was glad there was no obnoxious mean girl who picks on her or fake dating shenanigans. But she and Casper started their friendship again rather easily. And it was fairly clear who her Secret Santa was from the beginning.

Heart warming, Christmas-themed romance that will not fail to have you smiling.
Angel Green is a serious young lady. Determined to become a doctor, she is about to sit an exam to get a scholarship to study further, but she can’t help but worry that things may not be so simple.
We meet Angel as she is forced to take on fundraising for the school committee with Caspar, someone she used to be good friends with. Tentatively they take steps to restart their friendship, though Angel is distracted by her mother’s new relationship and her Secret Santa.
We follow Angel through December as she tries to juggle all her commitments and comes to realise the depth of her feelings for Caspar.
For a clever girl, Angel is a little short-sighted. Key details are rather obvious from early on, and yet she’s the kind of character you find yourself rooting for things to go as we predict.
On occasion there’s just a little too much going on, but it all adds up to a quite entertaining read. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this in exchange for my thoughts.

This adorable, light rom-com was exactly what I needed to get into the festive spirit. As much as I enjoyed the blossoming romance between Caspar and Angel, it was the details surrounding their lives that set this story apart for me. The story explores being in a single-parent household where the money is tight, the helplessness felt when a loved one is ill and the complex feelings of jealousy and sadness when a parent begins looking for love. I love that these scenarios (that many teenagers will experience at some point in their lives) are written with care and a sense of hope. This is the perfect read for teenagers/young readers looking for festive magic!

⭐️ 4/5 estrelas

#LoveSecretSanta by #SADomingo rated ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5) stars on #goodreads and #storygraph

This was a really cute and nice easy read for Christmastime!

A really sweet romance between the two main characters Angel and Caspar - though I can’t believe it took Angel so long to see it! I love how they worked so well together during the fundraising campaign, but also in scenes outside of that - especially towards the end, in the hospice!

I like that this book dealt with many things, for examples: grief, loss of a parent, surviving parent moving on, hospice work, childhood illness, and of course the studying hard and working hard for their future.

I really enjoyed the plot of this book - the secret Santa investigations, it was really sweet!

I think the only reasons I’m rating it three and a half stars are I felt it was for very young readers and it was good but didn’t have any spectacular moments! Saying that, I would recommend this book as a quick, super sweet read!

Gostei bastante!
