A centuries-old diary describes a world where people live in a giant supermarket. A woman fights a bull and turns into a tree. There is a government organization that translates texts from the future. An elephant turns into a man and starts a religious movement. These and other disparate stories collide across time and space, forming a puzzle that must be solved to save humanity.

Witty, intelligent and all-consuming, this book drew me into it's world of mythology, wibbly wobbly time and vivid description. Dealing with time, fait, faith, class and power, this book examines how language and context shape our knowledge of the world around us and whether we have the ability to determine our futures/ pasts/ present.
