First off I want to thank Quirk books for sending me this graphic novel for an honest review.

I grew up on ‘Tales From the Crypt’ and loved the way the Crypt Keeper encouraged the audience to play along. Each episode the Crypt Keeper would give us a peek and then start in on the story. Each story was about 30 mins and full of cheesy terror. Loved every episode. These 10 bites of Terror really brought back the nostalgia. 4 stars to this cornucopia of delicious tales.

This is such a fun and devilishly delicious (if you’ve read it then you’ll know how funny I’m being right there) little graphic novel and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more! I actually laughed out loud a couple times which I don’t think I’ve ever done with a graphic novel before so we’re breaking new ground with this one. I’m so glad I picked this up on a whim because not only is it such a fun read but the art is just awesome! I can only imagine how much work went into putting the panels together and it’s just amazing. Quirk Books never fail to put out such awesome and unique horror content and this graphic novel slots nicely into that category!

Killer. Cake. But Cute!

Oh my gosh, I love the quirky reads that Quirk Books puts out in the world. I can always depend on them to give me bite sized (ha) reads that make me laugh and Bites of Terror is no exception!

Bites of Terror is a graphic novel anthology of sorts, focused on a sculpted cake bite who tells tales of terror to a visiting cupcake. A campy dream full of adorably murderous desserts told in 10 parts (plus the main arc). No sweet or treat is safe - everything from pizza to deviled eggs to healthy fruits gets in on the slaying.

Each story sets up a message, with my favorite featuring a pair of watermelon. How far will you go for love? This is the story’s version of Pet Cemetery and I’m here for it.

As for the main arc, let’s just say everyone gets their just desserts.

Series Info/Source: This is a stand alone book that I got from Quirk Books to review.

Story (4/5): This is a series of short stories done in graphic novel format. The stories are loosely connected, with intermissions between them to further tie everything together. This is done in a very “Taled of the Crypt” style but with baked goods and food as the focus. The whole thing is more campy and puny than creepy and had me laughing out loud a number of times. Both me and my 13 year old son enjoyed the complete silliness of the torment these baked goods go through!

Characters (4/5): I wouldn’t say that deep characterization is a strength of this book. However, I enjoyed the Cake Creeper and the birthday cupcake that he tells his creepy stories to. All the characters are fun and well done.

Setting (4/5): Each story is in a new setting. Most of the stories are set in a contemporary setting where food and baked goods are amphomorphic. The stories are told from a creepy old mansion. The settings were generally enjoyable but not the focus.

Writing/Drawing Style (5/5): I enjoyed the campy writing style and all the groan-worthy food puns throughout. The art style throughout it fantastic; all the sets were built and photographed...so this isn’t so much drawn as collaged. The whole thing is incredibly well put together though and really well done.

Summary (4/5): Overall me and my family really enjoyed this. It’s incredibly weird but also very darkly humorous. The book is put together beautifully and I loved the art in the panels. I would recommend it if you enjoy campy horror involving food...or if you just want something a bit weird and funny to sink your teeth into. I would recommend to kids pre-teen or older, younger kids who are more sensitive might find some of this creepy.

Seriously though, this book is THE cutest and is just what I needed right now. I couldn't get over the time it must have taken and the intricate detail put into each diorama. In a way, the book is more than just a book, it's also art.

The Tales from the Crypt vibes had me geeking out with nostalgia. The Cake Creeper was such an awesome guide through this world of cheesy horror. I think there were a few times when I cracked a smile and even giggled out loud while traversing this evil food filled land between the pages. I don't think I've ever read anything quite like this, but I'm hungering for more!

My favorite stories had to be Deviled Egg, Pot Luck, and Unfortunate Cookie. For a "silly" book, the characterization was quite well done. How can an egg have a deeply evil and well developed personality? I don't know, but Cuddles and Rage made it happen. Pot Luck had quite the twist at the end, and I loved it *insert sinister laugh*! And Unfortunate Cookie had me saying, "OH no....poor fortune cookie!"

If you can get your hands on a copy of this book, do it! I promise that it is exactly the campy classic horror and cute food mashup that you need in your life! You'll thank me later.

**Huge thanks to @quirkbooks for sending me this masterpiece to read and review!**

Like Tales from the Crypt but with food and clay figures. Not entirely sure who the audience is for this book (is it for kids? Adults?)

REALLY GOOD! A graphic novel where each panel is a photo of sculpted clay characters posed in a diorama set to convey different scenes. Reminiscent of I Spy Spooky Night, my favorite I Spy of all time.

The art is cute and all the food puns were mostly funny. I was wanting more horror vibes the whole time. If you like just a teeny tiny 🍩sprinkle🍩 of horror this is the book for you.

Did you ever see that episode of Adventure Time with the zombies? This is that level of horror with those kinds of visuals. So if you liked that, you’ll enjoy these. :) They definitely have a special charm to them and it’s easy to devour this graphic novel in a single sitting, but the anthology nature means you can savor it slowly as well.

The first few times I was looking for comics, mangas, and/or graphic novels to read on Libby, I really just searched the library with that specific tag and didn’t narrow it down further which was a little overwhelming not only because there were a lot, there were a fair amount of them I just wasn’t interested in. So I decided to narrow down to my preferred genres and Bites of Terror: Ten Frightfully Delicious Tales was one of the books that caught my eye in of the several categories I was looking in. The cover immediately drew me in, it was so cute and made me want to read it no matter what! I’ve been borrowing books in batches and this was in the latest one and when it came time to pick my next read, I picked Bites of Terror: Ten Frightfully Delicious Tales with no hesitation and oh, I loved it so much!

I was not familiar with this husband and wife duo before coming across Bites of Terror: Ten Frightfully Delicious Tales and that is a dang shame because I have no doubts that I would love the rest of their stuff based on what I read here! Anyway, my point with being unaware of them was that I didn’t realize when I first I got this anthology, I didn’t know that their comics were done with actual, physical dioramas they created themselves and I was completely blown away when I found that out shortly after starting the book. I wasn’t surprised to learn that because even from the cover itself while there’s not a lot of their characters on it, there’s such a texture to it that I knew right away it was different and after I read only a few pages, I had to go looking to see if it was real because it made me think so much of claymation and was so textured and full of layers of details, I just couldn’t believe that it wasn’t physically made. Once I got my confirmation, I dove in and was and am just in awe of not only all the pieces they made for Bites of Terror: Ten Frightfully Delicious Tales, but just how awesome all the stories are too!

Bites of Terror: Ten Frightfully Delicious Tales was unbelievably fun to read! Whenever we were with our host, I imagined his voice to be similar to the Crypt Keeper’s and if you’re a fan of Tales from the Crypt, I think you’ll really love this! I feel like they share a vibe, though this is definitely way more cute to look at, but there’s still some dark tales in here, so you might not get the grittiness of the show or the movies, but you’ll get a shared vein. I had an absolute blast with this anthology, it was just a delight and I can’t wait to see what else I can find from this duo!

I told myself I would only read a couple stories and then go to bed... what ended up happening is me reading the whole entire book at almost midnight when I desperately need sleep now more than ever. 😂

This had me laughing out loud soooo many times at the dark humor and ridiculous food puns! I LOVE the artwork since this is clay pieces that are photographed rather than actual drawn artwork so I appreciate how much effort has gone into this! (Not to say that other art is less work, but I have never seen this before in graphic novel format so I thought it was really unique!) I was not expecting some major twists and I also loved how some of these stories reminded me of fairytales!

Pick this up if you want a quick, hilarious, DARK compilation of amphormorphic food stories. Just remember that this is considered a horror novel so even though it's just food references it is still pretty gory and dark 😂

This fix up of ten short stories told within an eleventh ongoing story was really unique to me. I'm not familiar with Cuddles and Rage but now I want to find them and see more of their works after reading this book. It was a fast read for me but you can also slow down and really enjoy the detailed dioramas that are shown that tell the tales in comic book fashion. I liked that every story had a little twist that pseudo teach moral lesson but which also invited me to read more carefully and think while reading to see if I could find the twist before it was revealed.

The only negative for me about his book is that the stories were not frightening or scary to me. For a grade schooler or younger these could well be scary to look at but I think some of the twists might need an explanation to kids.

I found this book to be hilarious. I wavered between a 4.5 and a 5 and thought that was just silly. I read this days ago and it's the whole thing is sticking with me perfectly. That just pushes it up there to that 5 star. The creativity behind the comic is so impressive. Each page, each panel, each story is so clever. This is a really good graphic comic.
This consists of ten different stories and each is a haunting tale of woe told by the ever creepy Cake Creeper. Each terrifying tale has a different cast of fruits, veggies, and/or other living foods. Never have such horrors befallen the poor residents of the food pyramid and it's counterparts (the junk food pyramid? If there isn't one, there should be) as they do in this scare fest book.
This is just really good and if you like fun things you should probably read this one.

I flew through this. It is silly and cute but creepy and meaningful. It confronts very human conundrums. It forces you to reflect on the human condition and face common fears while simultaneously being morbidly hilarious and ridiculously adorable. Shedding light on the things people don’t want to talk about through food characters is insanely clever and makes those uncomfortable topics far more comfortable, even funny and heartfelt at times. The photography is adorable and creepy and the dialogue is clever. I loved the nods to horror pop culture throughout this. This is definitely a new favorite of mine.
Also can say book description for this is accurate in its comparisons to All My Friends Are Dead. That one’s a super quick read but worth it. I loved that little book as well and the humor strikes a very similar chord as this does.

Warped and wild comic in which foods all get macabre endings. This comic is super interesting in its visual execution, frame narrative, and the seeming morals behind each episodic short story. (I particularly like the one about the strawberry who has mold but won't stay away from other strawberries despite knowing that mold is very contagious.) Plus, the title "deviled egg" made me gasp aloud, and then giggle at my reaction. It's such a fun read... it's a similar humor to the Addams Family or Nightmare Before Christmas, and I definitely would recommend it!

A macabre anthology, starring hilarious and cute hand-sculpted foods, that come to life in mini dioramas that I just adored.

The dark humour, the foods, their tales, their mini worlds that were created, their little facial expressions, the food analogy’s - just the whole lot had me in giggles and they just made me happy, it’s as simple as that.

One More Swim and Potluck were my personal favourites.

Liz and Jimmy Reed have created something that is hilariously special and what a talent to have and share, to make the world smile.

I received this from the Quirk popup shop. Seems like most people with the horror pick ended up with this one as a Feb. "blind date" book. It was okay. It seemed a bit derivative - as someone who grew up with creep show, all I could think when reading this one was "how quaint." Had I seen it in a store, I probably would have picked it up, but it's not one I would have ever purchased for myself. I wasn't particularly impressed.

I really enjoyed this one. Bites of terror, frightfully delicious tales, is made up entirely of clay figurines & miniatures. It is an absolute feast for the eyes, everything is so cute. In addition to being a cute book to take in visually, the stories are really well composed and one or two did give me a genuine childlike shiver up my spine. This has a lot of dark humor wrapped up in cotton candy and philo dough. It reminds me a lot of the shticky nature of the show At home with Amy Sedaris.

Bites of Terror is such a fun read! In usual Cuddles and Rage style, each page is filled with so much color and exceptional artistic detail. When I wasn't laughing at the playfully morbid stories, I spent a lot of time searching the background for hidden characters and references. It's a quick and entertaining read that's perfect for fans of mischievous humor and lighthearted horror.

What a delightful treat!

I'm from the Tales from the Crypt era and these delicious tales told by the Cake Creeper triggered my nostalgia! Who knew treats, both salty and sweet, could be so deadly?

If you want a scare, a laugh, and to be delighted all by the same book, look no further than this treat from Cuddles and Rage.

If your a foodie, cook, baker, anything of the sort and fan of Tales From The Crypt, you’ll love this. It was adorable and had me giggle quite a few times. Nostalgic in a way that brought me back to when I used to watch the show mentioned above. My favorite story was Pizza Party, the humor was perfect. Wish there were more or that it was longer.

Bits of claymation food terror, especially appreciate the use of puns and things food in particular should fear. Reborn as menacing seeds, the inevitability of rotting, and wondering exactly just how baked foods are made cover just a few of the creepy themes explored.
