Phoebe and Marigold decide to investigate a powerful storm that is wreaking havoc with the electricity in their town. To solve the case, they team up with Max, who is desperate for the electricity to return so he can play video games, and frenemy Dakota, who is aided by her goblin minions. It's my first time to read an issue from this comic series of Phoebe and Her Unicorn. Marigold the Unicorn is really awesome because she possessed amazing powers, e.g., the magical GPS and magical text message. There are several funny parts in this volume, particularly how Phoebe and Marigold wore a disguise because Marigold's magic wasn't working. Dakota's remarks and that one word "Blart" of the goblins are also quite hilarious.
Aside from the unicorn's magic, the magic power of Dakota's goblins were also not working; the internet and the electricity were also out. According the goblin's story, the reason of their problem was the dragon named Voltina. Because of this, Marigold, Phoebe, Dakota, Max, and the goblins joined forces so they can finally found a solution to their and to the town's dilemma.
I'm happy with the ending because not only that Phoebe and her friends had finally solved the mystery, but Voltina had finally found friends. I might check out the previous published issues of this series; I bet that I will also enjoy reading them just like I did in this latest book.

It's been a while since I've picked up any of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn books, but this one is unique in that, rather than a set of separate comic panels, it's actually a graphic novel!
Phoebe and Marigold have yet another adventure ahead of them, but in this story, a mysterious storm has struck their town, taking with it not only the electricity (and the wi-fi - gasp), but also the ambient magic. Poor Marigold is without her powers, which simply won't do, so the duo decides to hunt down what could be causing such a bizarre turn of events.
As always, Phoebe and Marigold are absolutely adorable, but my favorite part of this volume was the goblins! They're hilarious, gross, little green guys, and they were such a fun addition. Also, there's a dragon, as there should be in essentially every story.

Before I tell you anything else you need to know there’s a DRAGON in this book!!! 💜💜💜 Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system I can continue.
Marigold’s magical sensitivity is telling her something’s not quite right. This is confirmed when a pixie’s GPS fails and Marigold can only find one bar of magical reception. Meanwhile at Phoebe’s elementary school, the teachers and kids alike are anticipating a half day due to a rumoured ice storm.
Later that day Marigold can’t even sparkle anymore when, horror of horrors, magic and the wifi go down!
Although Max has been Phoebe’s second best friend for a while now (after Marigold, of course) I was so happy that he made a new friend in this graphic novel, one he shares more interests with. He’s consistently one of my favourite characters so it was lovely to have him more involved in the storyline. I loved the gentle, age appropriate way that bullying, loneliness and friendships were addressed in this story.
I can’t get enough of Phoebe and Marigold. Phoebe, who was once a lonely young girl, now has a magical creature that looks at her like this and it’s adorable.

This is a job for Phoebegold Detective Agency! Dakota isn’t so sure that Phoebe has enough nerd power to solve this case though.
Because Marigold no longer has magic her Shield of Boringness is down, making the people she walks past actually respond to her unicorn awesomeness for the first time in the series.
Although Max has been Phoebe’s second best friend for a while now (after Marigold, of course) I was so happy that he made a new friend in this graphic novel, one he shares more interests with. He’s consistently one of my favourite characters so it was lovely to have him more involved in the storyline. I loved the gentle, age appropriate way that bullying, loneliness and friendships were addressed in this story.

I loved learning that goblins have their own version of a unicorn’s Shield of Boringness called a Bubble of Non-Grossness. Let’s face it, maybe I just love the blarting goblins.
I fell in love with Voltina the dragon and can’t wait to see how much she features in future adventures.

After not being quite as enthralled by the last two collections I read, my love for Phoebe, Marigold and the rest of Dana Simpson’s creations has been renewed with this graphic novel. I’m looking forward to bingeing the rest of the series.

A storm has caused a blackout, and oh heavens, how can you live without electricity? but apparently it is not something as simple as meteorology but there may be a magic cause.
Unlike previous releases of Phoebe and her best friend Marigold the Unicorn, in the form of a comic strip, with short cartoons, sometimes jumping from one subject to another, this time the presentation of the adventure is like graphic novel.
However, somehow the story presented here is lackluster, lacking the sort of soft irony that characterized it and we left missing the strong love towards books that is so appealing in the case of both characters.
On the other hand, I realize that this delivery seems more oriented to start a conversation in a classroom about how to make friends, about how to resolve conflicts by talking and trying to solve misunderstandings.
And it is also about discovering how we have things in common with other people, even if it does not seem so.
But, oh jeez!, Dakota is a much more detestable character than before! That of being frenemies left remotely to simulate being sympathetic and entered the field of obnoxious person, and a bully.
There are some passing presentation of Sam's mothers for the LGBT factor, in case you are wondering.
All ends well, and Phoebe and Marigold friendship stays true. And we discover new magicals beings.

I'm disgusted by you, Dana Simpson.
How dare you compare this worthless piece of filth to 'Calvin And Hobbes', the name that shouldn't even be used from your mouth. I would've gave you and your ridiculous book a chance, but the forward I saw in one of your books made me want to rip it into a thousand pieces and use it to wipe my dogs butt. I hate this book with a BURNING PASSION.
Bill Watterson will be better then you and your stupid, useless vector art pictures will ever be.
Calvin and Hobbes is a breathtakingly unique concept, a book that is treasured for the love, humor, worry, passion and sadness spilled into the pages. His book is genius, and if I could read one thing for the rest of my life, it would be that. Your art is messy and you REUSE THE SAME PANEL OVER AND OVER like we're all too stupid to notice.
Not only do you compare, but you say you're book is BETTER, and Calvin and Hobbes is boring.
And yet here you are, sitting and your trashy high and mighty throne, using and pushing down other authors to lift yourself up.
I wish to never set sight on another one of these books again.

Phoebe- Don't tell me you don't kinda enjoy it, too.

It has been nice for a little while.
There is no electricity or magic happening in the town after a big storm comes to the town of Tipton. Phoebe, Marigold, Max, Dakota and the goblins go investigate the cause.
I didn't enjoy this one very much. Hardly any snark or wit involved. Dakota is at her worst and this was not a comic book funnies style. It was a whole story about the same topic. I enjoyed the different scenes and different Phoebe/Unicorn curiosities from the other series'.

I'm going through these too fast to keep up with reviewing them. And my memory for individual details isn't holding up. So I may just copy this as the review for those I've read, at least for as long as the quality keeps up. My review of the first should hold up for the rest.
Okay, one note. Phoebe's dad is totally me. He even looks like me since I've grown my hair out. It's uncanny.

This is the first Phoebe and Marigold book that isn't a collection of comics (I assume, because it's a single large story and there aren't any breaks that would indicate a four-panel comic) and that gives it a different feel. It's less funny in terms of laughs per minute (LPM) simply because those four-panel comics usually have a humorous punchline, which means a laugh per page (the slightly less well known LPP). But I liked the way it gave Simpson freedom to tell a larger story, so I'm willing to put up with a lower LPM count.
Also, loved that Max has a new friend. I hope we see more of her.
This series is still proving to be really good for relaxing after a long day. I should have the whole series soon, which is good because it's easy to cruise right through these.

Usually the "Phoebe and her unicorn" series are a compilation of comic strips about life as a schooler riding a cool unicorn, and different adventures or cores they go on about in daily life. But in this one we find that the majority of the book follows the story of the Magic Storm, which seems to be like a harder than usual storm and the kids get to be dismissed from school as electricity goes out and there is snow and an icy chill everywhere.
But it looks like this storm is affecting magic too, so Phoebe and her unicorn go out to find what is going on. They even get approached by Phoebe's archenemy and her goblins as they too suspect there is stomething wrong in the storm!
The rest of the book is a compilation of comic strips as per usual.

Of course I love it. This is every bit as much fun as all of the other Phoebe and Her Unicorn books. The difference is that this is officially a graphic novel. How does that make it different from the others? Previous books were essentially set up as a collection of one page strips. Sure, there'd be storylines, but they wouldn't take up the whole book, and there would be plenty of unrelated strips. This, on the other hand, is definitely a continuous story, and each page doesn't feel like an individual strip. It's a definite shift in form, but not a dramatic one, and Simpson did a good job plotting everything out.

I hate to say it, but... that was pretty awful.
Gone are most of the clever quips. Instead, we have a childish storyline about a power outage and a group of preteens running around with magical creatures. I might've enjoyed this book when I was under ten, but after reading the first five books in the series--which were comic collections with astute observations and challenging language, unlike this dumbed-down graphic novel--I was expecting something way more advanced. The first five comics collections can be enjoyed by all ages. This book is going to turn off a lot of the older fans of the series.
I wasn't that impressed with Today I'll Be a Unicorn, a picture book based on these characters. It seemed like it was simply taking advantage of the popularity of the characters. Phoebe and Her Unicorn in The Magic Storm seems like an all-out cash grab.
It looks like some of the subsequent books go back to the comic format. I hope that's the case and that I can simply wipe this boring, juvenile graphic novel from my memory.

Review: Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm
The Magic Storm is the best book of the first six books in the Phoebe and her Unicorn series. When the weather gets cold Phoebe and her unicorn,Marigold, try to discover the real reason it is getting so cold. It is odd that Phoebe is always watching Dakota’s vlog when they are not really friends. I enjoyed when Max stopped Dakota and Phoebe passing mean notes in class by writing something good on one of the notes. At the end of the Magic Storm author, Dana Simpson, has all three kids Phoebe, Dakota and Max have magic animal friends.I LOVED THIS!
It’s very funny when Phoebe and Marigold get two costumes for free because the person who ran the costume shop said ”that unicorns are so beautiful”.
I also enjoyed the parts where the Dragons and the goblins are telling the same legend but each one has a bit of a different take and the legend had just happened the day before.
At the end of the story I like how Phoebe, Max and Dakota all meet up each riding their magic animal friends. I really really really loved this book.

This is my first read of the comic series adventure of Phoebe and her unicorn Marigold. I listened to the audiobook. Although the narrators were very good, interesting, and funny, I like to see graphic novels, too.
Marigold has magical power and receives magical text messages. She understands that something unusual is about the storm. Phoebe, Marigold, and Max (Phoebe’s friend) go to finding the mystery of the storm; based on the goblin's story which belongs to the past, about 300 years ago or last week!
Well, I should mention the funniest part. I don't know if the little green creatures, goblins are in the other books or not (I hope they were be), but they were awesome and talk with one word, "BLART".
This was a 3F story (fine, funny, and friendly). I loved it and going to read more of the series.

Volume 6 is the first official “Phoebe” graphic novel. The previous volumes are comic strip collections bound together, and while those are still fun, this is my favorite thus far. It was fun getting the full story. Inclement weather takes out the electricity, internet, and *gasp* magic. Phoebe, friends, and frenemies go on a mystery-solving adventure. The “costuming interlude” is adorable. Such a fun story! As always, there are some good lessons here. Time to pass this one on to my niece. 🦄✨💜

This was charming and adorable, as expected. I really liked that unlike previous volumes, this book had one storyline it followed from beginning to end. As much as I love the comic strip nature of previous volumes, I found I preferred having a bigger plot. It also allowed for some more character development for all involved, especially Max.
The plot itself was fantastic. And I loved the resolution! The perfect amount of whimsy for this series.

Finally! A graphic novel I can understand. It's a gently paced winter tale about a girl and her best friend (who happens to be a unicorn with fantastic fashion sense.) Phoebe, pronounced Fee-Bee (I had to explain this to my 7 year old) has a frenemy with big hair who doesn't have a best friend, and she's pretty mean, but not unredeemably so. The frenemy has a collection of trolls/gremlins whose language consists of different volumes and tones of "BLART," and the trolls/gremlins carry the girl around on a litter — ya know, one of those seats on a platform with handles on it, so an esteemed person can be carried around in a dignified fashion.
Anyway, speaking of fashion, Phoebe's unicorn friend always knows what to wear. Just look at the book cover. Her matching cranberry-colored scarf and leg warmers are tres chic! She also knows how to rock a flower costume. I always love any book or movie that shows a character in a flower costume, the kind where a person's face is in the middle of a bunch of giant daisy petals. Just the cutest.
The book has some tough vocabulary words in it. I love them. And the main problem in the plot, that the characters need to solve, is like a magical power outage or something, where the gremlin-trolls may have antagonized an ice-blue dragon . . . The backstory is totally vague. Some sort of battle or argument happened a hundred years ago. Or maybe it was last week? The gremlin-trolls aren't too great at record keeping or time management.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again….I want a unicorn, especially one like Marigold! Another delightful addition to Dana Simpson’s Phoebe and Her Unicorn series. I still haven’t had time to read books 1-4 but they are definitely something I would like to get around to, as I just adore these two!
In this installation, Phoebe gets to leave school early due to an ice-storm brewing within the town, but Marigold is suspicious of the storm as she can’t seem to sense any magic in the air. As Phoebe and Marigold investigate this strange phenomenon, they also team up with the less-mean Dakota and her gremlins and Phoebe’s electricity loving friend, Max.
I really enjoyed my time spent with Phoebe and Marigold and it was nice to see Phoebe and Dakota getting along! Dakota can be so mean! Also, I loved the diversity portrayed by Max’s parents! What a nice surprise! I assume this might rub some parents the wrong way as it is a sensitive issue but I really didn’t mind….To be honest it’s an issue I have been thinking about a lot recently, as for my reading challenges I have been challenged to read some books from the LGBT+ community. I must say my mind is more open and diverse due to these challenges, as equality is something I support and don’t have any problems with! Our children’s generations are going to have some parents of the same sex, so it’s great these prompts are there to get children thinking, asking questions and being informed to also have an open mind about others who are different. Well done Dana Simpson and hope everyone else enjoys this read as much as I did! BLART!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again….I want a unicorn, especially one like Marigold! Another delightful addition to Dana Simpson’s Phoebe and Her Unicorn series. I still haven’t had time to read books 1-4 but they are definitely something I would like to get around to, as I just adore these two!
In this installation, Phoebe gets to leave school early due to an ice-storm brewing within the town, but Marigold is suspicious of the storm as she can’t seem to sense any magic in the air. As Phoebe and Marigold investigate this strange phenomenon, they also team up with the less-mean Dakota and her gremlins and Phoebe’s electricity loving friend, Max.

What a delight this is! It is a wonderfully illustrated graphic novel aimed at middle grade children. It was the cover that pulled me in. Simple and effective.
Phoebe and her unicorn are investigating why the electricity and magic are not working anymore. It is a lovely story of friendship and I loved it from beginning to end. Kudos to the author/artist as well for showing same-sex parenting as a very normal thing, which is so as it should be!
Even though I am clearly not the intended audience, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and raced through it. I know several children who would love this book and I would definitely recommend it as an awesome gift!

Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm has a fairy-tale feel with a humorous and modern twist. Phoebe and her friends (and frenemies) decide to investigate when a freak storm comes rolling in. They learn of a tale from goblin lore that might hold some clues, and they set out to solve the mystery! This is the first graphic novel in audiobook form I’ve listened to, and it was an interesting experience. Since this is a full-cast recording, complete with sound effects, it sounds a lot like an episode of a cartoon. The voices are super fun (and cartoony), and the story is entertaining, but I did have a little trouble following what was happening in the beginning. Once I got used to the style, though, the story really started to flow. It’s interesting to hear how certain visual elements of the graphic novel are portrayed through dialogue. I think kids might really enjoy having the graphic novel in-hand while listening. My favorite aspect of the book is the ending and the way the mystery plays out—there are so many little funny moments that had me laughing!

I am normally a huge fan of Phoebe and her Unicorn. They make me laugh, and are rather enjoyable. This volume, not so much. A great storm is going through. And not only has it cut the power, it’s cut the connection to magic for Unicorn and other magical creatures. The best part is the reason behind the storm and the inclusion of a new friend, and creature.

The Magic Storm gives Phoebe, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, and their supporting cast the opportunity to shine again. These books make me laugh aloud. I often share their antics with my friends.

A magical storm causes a disturbance in the force, and of course our squad gets to work: Phoebe, Marigold, Max, Dakota, and her goblin army. This was another cute volume!
Highlights:
- Phoebe's parents being perfect and adorable. (I also react the same way as Phoebe's dad when the internet is out.)
- Dakota's ever growing goblin army and the fact that she has no idea what they're saying. (BLART!)
- Max's obsession with power grids? What an odd child.
- People being struck still by Marigold because she can't put up her Shield of Boring.
- Our new dragon friend is adorable. Now the squad is complete!
- The freaking goblin story! I love the whimsy and humor of all the Phoebe and her Unicorn books, and seeing this story come together really was gold for me.
High quality art and writing as always. Phoebe and Marigold continue to make me smile. =)
