Red Mountain Burning

Rate this book

Why must all good things come to an end?

In Washington State wine country, Red Mountain is a refuge for searchers and wanderers, artists and lovers, farmers and chefs--people looking for a place to belong. Despite the stunning landscape, the world-class wines, and their best efforts, the eccentric inhabitants often attract trouble.

Brooks Baker, the man with the most broken of pasts, craves stability, but he's forced into making a tough decision when the woman he loves considers a move to Florida.

Margot Pierce, the dream chaser and innkeeper who fled Vermont to escape her first marriage, faces a new challenge when her fiancé's estranged daughter comes to town.

Otis Till, the grapefather, knows it's time to hand over the reins to the new guard of Red Mountain. But he wants just one last great vintage before he goes.

Red Mountain Burning is the third and final book in the story of the many souls fighting to make their small wine-growing region thrive amidst a world of dysfunction and chaos. Are they strong enough to endure the many fires of the coming vintage or will Red Mountain go down in flames?

More books wanted!

Boo Walker cannot stop writing about these people, he has now completed three novels with these people, until I feel as tho they are people I know so well!. The books can't stop now we want more, the next generations. What's going on now with Brooks, Shay, their parents and Margo, Remi and Carly. Jaspar and Emalia, The Foresters and Otis and Joan. I'm even wondering about the villain in the books Mr. Bell flour as much as I disliked him. Please Boo Walker these stories haven't ended yet, they can't, Please keep writing more about them. I was tied to these books from start to finish all of them. It just isn't over for me and I know I'm not the only one. Love Loved these books!

A Wine-lover's Trilogy

I'm not a wine-lover, but I did love this trilogy! A beautiful setting; wonderful characters, each with their own unique stories; and interesting facts about wine-making. I really hope there will be more books about these people who live and breathe the vines and the wine on Red Mountain, and the younger generation coming up to follow in the older footsteps.

A bit better than the first two in the trilogy, but still entertaining trash.

I could not wait to gobble this story in the series and it did not let me down beginning to end. What a fantastic series of winemakers of Red Mountain Washington. Still smiling with tears as the series ended.

PS I met my reading goal 3 books ago for 2022. 😘

Some spoilers ahead , so be wary.

OK, so after thinking about what I wanted to write, I've come back to review.

I was so disappointed in a lot of ways with this last in the series. I wanted to love it and feel it was wrapped up nicely. I do think the characters were still real, showing their flawed selves, especially Otis and Carmen. But this time it went over the top. Otis was totally unhinged, and it made me really dislike him, I guess it highlights how dangerous an obsession can become. I really felt for Joan. She was such a sweetheart, and otis treated her badly. Carmen was vile in this one, with no redeeming features, but again shows how addiction is destructive. I know not everyone gets a HEA in real life , but Brooks so deserved one. Adriana was portrayed well, with her trauma causing her to be so closed to love. Carly was a typical angsty teen and it was well written in the fact she didn't just come around, it took time as it would in real life. Margot was still my favourite character.

What this did well was highlight throughout all the books , was the fragility of a small community but also their strength and unity, making a found family of their own making.

A great example of Joan's humanity :

Joan raised a finger. “I take that back. I guess I realized that the best thing I could do for him was to set him free. Let him fight his own battle. So here I am, heartbroken and hoping that he’ll be okay.”

I think another short novella set 5 years in the future would be great. To see what becomes of Em and Jasper and the rest of the mountain.

These three books were an enjoyable light read and had an interesting storyline even if it was predictable.

This was the last in a three part series about wine growers in Washington State.
The small community is comprised of individuals who would not normally be thrown together.

At times I felt I was reading a journal on wine making, but after flipping through many pages the story opened up and kept me reading. The characters were not jumping out at me as a result of weak image building and at times I found myself wondering off course trying to imagine what some of them actually looked like. Too many on and off redundant couples relationships that floated along in and out of love was discouraging as well. I've read much better from Boo Walker, although the setting was lovely and believable.

This is book three of the trilogy. The story takes a deeper look into its unique characters, some well-liked and others, not so much.

This is the continuing story of the Red Mountain wine region on the Eastern side of the Cascade Mountains in the state of Washington. The author has created several wine making families and through their adventures in raising and developing and producing their wine, teaches us about the art of wine making.

I love the way he is able to develop his characters. I've read all three of his Red Mountain trilogy now, and at some point I thought I knew these characters. As in life that is always changing, so too, do his characters. They have many layers and dimensions, and frankly, I was surprised and pleased to experience their growth and have insight to their motivations, feelings and thoughts. I also liked that the characters were unique and a bit quirky. It just made them seem real, even when they frustrated me.

I lived close to this country for 26 years, so I was somewhat familiar with the geography, and Boo did the land justice. It also played a role in the story just as the characters did.

During the quarantine, I read these books back to back and it was a wonderful adventure. I will be looking for more by this author.

This is the final chapter of Red Mountain and their Winery's. The community has survived one attempt of a development take over only to have the same man threaten their livelihoods again on the mountain. They need to find a way to stop him again.

Otis and Joan are having trouble because Otis can't let the developer win. He will stop at nothing to keep the Mountain pure for all of the growers on the mountain and Joan can't stand his constant late-night sabotaging. She also can't stand his year-round growing seasons.

Brooks has finally convinced Adriana to have a relationship with him, but he has to move to Florida and it's killing him he doesn't' want to leave Red Mountain. Otis offers Brooks his winery, but Brooks is moving.

Emilia loves working for Brooks but he's leaving. She has to convince her parents that her going to school close by and still work for the Winery. Emilia will also have a long-distance relationship with Jasper.

Margot and Remi are getting along with Carly as best they can while she stays with them indefinitely. She doesn't want to do anything but complain and stay in her room.

I'm hooked! Mostly reading books by female authors in the past, "Red Mountain" came up as a book I'd like. Reading about Boo, and the Red Mountain Chronicles, it seemed as if I should read "A Marriage Well Done" first. So glad I did as Margo turned out to be my favorite character...although I liked all the characters in the Red Mountain Chronicles. Each book just kept getting better. Just finished Red Mountain Burning today and am sad to have come to the end of these exciting character's stories, even if they were all in a good place at the end. I'll not forget them. I'm starting another Boo Walker book today and plan to read them all, in the order they were written. Why is he my hero? Not only can he skillfully write in all his character's voices, but they are so relatable...so alive and real that Boo makes you care about them as much as he does. Also, he is so good to his fans and even takes time to respond to questions! Truly amazing!! Judy Welden, author: An Unstoppable Survivor

I'm stuck between a 3.5 and 4. I really love these characters and was mostly happy to see how their stories were rounded out. What is frustrating for me is seeing so many of them making their lives harder for seemingly no reason. While I can understand the impetus behind some of it, it's so frustrating to see people self-sabotage, and while it's realistic, there just seemed to be an awful lot of it happening. Red Mountain sounds beautiful, but their annhilistic behavior can be too much. With that said, it's still a fun story, though I didn't feel the setting come as alive in this book as it did in the others. Despite what the group claims, the Mountain didn't defend herself, she was saved by someone's stupidity. Read this book if you've read the others and want to see how their story ends.

Totally mind blowing

Just completed reading The Red Mountain series of the three books. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of the series. Never have I ever been so caught up in the wine industry as the information re what goes into making a wonderful bottle of wine. I am a lover of wine, have been to Napa Valley and enjoyed wine tastings in many states so have thoroughly enjoyed these books. The stories of families in this series are so real and so vibrant that when you are close to determining the outcome, things change instantly just like in the reality of life. Thank you for many hours of enjoyment of reading your books.

Well, I finished all 3 books in the series! I really liked them!
I almost scrapped the series at 75% through the first book. It had been a good story and then got very sexually explicit. I came so close to scrapping it. I hadn’t chosen to read all that. And I hoped there wouldn’t be more of it. (There wasn’t.) And I couldn’t imagine how the characters could redeem all their relationships.

But I’m glad I stuck with the book. A lot of great lessons in lives working out. Sometimes not as hoped for, but always for the good.

My only issue was the title. The ending would have been a good surprise if the title hadn’t given it away. (Same issue with many of the chapter titles all the way through the 3 books)

The last of 3 in the Red Mountain series. Set in the rugged but beautiful area of North East Washington, an area i hadn't given much thought to.
I loved the vibrant characters, the detailed processes of wine making & the intimate relationships of a community fueled by creating, caring & sharing.
During a chaotic stressful time in my life, it was comforting to look forward to opening this book (all 3) at the end of the day.
No grizzly murders or twisted sociopaths just believable characters I looked forward to reading about.
Everything from teenage angst & challenges to the realities of aging, retirement dreams & fears with real life twists & turns.
I look forward to reading more of Boo Walkers books.

Second time around

This was the first book (series) that I had ever read by Boo. I fell in love with the characters and ripped drought the pages. Laughter, tears & sadness and finally an ending worthy of the characters.

Since read Red Mountain I have read all of Boo’s books. Oh my, each and everyone are so good!

Sometime afterwards Boo wrote the prequel “A Marriage Well Done” to the Red Mountain series. That’s all it took for me to reread the series. It was even better the second time around.

If you like drama and romance, give the residents of Red Mountain a chance to become family.

A bit disappointed. Purchased the second and third books in the series together because I enjoyed the first despite the need for better editing. Read them to the end because I was too proud to admit I wasn't enjoying them and wasted my money. Seriously encourage this author to find another editor, one who analyzes the action (like noticing when a helicopter touches down on a gravel lane and explaining why those standing by are going to be sorry), and one who can tell the author to get out of the heads and stop telling. Approximately 60-70% of the last two books consists of internal dialog and backstory. Very little action. And the saddest aspect for me personally was that neither the author nor any of his characters have any clue of the true source of hope or inner peace. On the up-side, the characters are believable and keep the reader going.

A true love story. Not just for people, but for the LAND.

I had been waiting to purchase this book till rice was within my budget. It was well worth it, and more.
I love Boo Walker. He wrote like He lives. Real , true, with his heart. I was truly in the pages. Otis was my fav. Reminded me of my grandpa, a hard nosed but true man. His love of land, was so much like the men in my life, and the coal fields in eastern Kentucky. I could read about all these characters again, and again. Enjoy it as much as did.

I enjoyed this book and liked seeing the growth that a lot of the characters have gone through. As someone whose own town has been threatened by wildfires, it frustrated me to see the careless way the fire had been started, but the outcome was the best possible one for those on Red Mountain. the way Emilia and Jasper talk to each other is adorable and I really do hope the best for them. But the character development that Emilia went through was adorable and I loved her finding her place. Her mom was totally pissing me off but hopefully they can mend.

These books!
They tick every box for me.
The back story to the characters, the descriptive writing the emotion all made me feel I was there.
I love the characters and I’ll miss them!
Like when I was closing the book the characters were waiting in limbo for their days to continue.
Boo’s style of writing is like no other I have experienced and I hungrily devoured the three Red mountain books and am so sad there isn’t a fourth.
Please Boo..bring us book 4!!
These are in my top ten favourite books now.

A good read

This entire series is full of drama, excitement, and carefully crafted characters who fill their roles well. From the prequel to the epilogue of the last book in this series, Walker describes and defines his characters well. There is always a good way and a best way to develop a story line and character growth without sacrificing the art of writing. Walker chose the best route. I like happy endings, but I prefer realistic ones that evoke a satisfactory sigh as I close the book. Reading this series was not a waste of my time. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is the 3rd book in the Red Mountain series, and it is every bit as good as the previous two. The saga of the winemakers on Red Mountain continues amid strife that a developer wants to come in and create a Las Vegas type venue to support his boxed wine company, much to the consternation of the residents. We follow the personal struggles of the characters, familial ties, and the community’s efforts to thrive and survive amidst chaos. I was invested in both the story lines and the character development throughout the entire book. Wonderful read.

A wonderful treat

This is the second time in 5 years that I've read this series. The depth of each character kept me engaged in a way that I found exciting. Every day was filled with new surprises and I felt ready to explore each one. Of course there were a couple obvious Oh Come On, really?'s,! Like Carmen becoming friends with Margot after Margot slept with Carmen's husband. Who does that?! But then us novel lovers do enjoy the occasional inflated dramatics.
I can't wait to read your next book. I'm sure ill be entertained! Great work with research, color and style!

A perfect cap to the series.

I remember reading the title and thinking, "Is he going to end all the characters too?" I'm glad that didn't come to pass.

I enjoyed how the characters wove in and out of each other. Boo Walker creates believeable characters complete with all the typical and not so typical foibles. I love historical fiction because it gives insight into how people lived through periods of time. Mr. Walker has managed to create people living in contemporary places and time, and showing them surviving through the things we fear in our world.

I have read all three books in the Red Mountain series and have enjoyed them all. This one tied all situations and relationships up in a nice red bow. I learned some things about wine-making. Wine-makers are a distinct breed and take much pride in their profession. I could see these three books as a Netflix series—-nothing too frivolous or sappy. Heading to a cabin in the woods; take these books with you.

Great ending to a great story

Boo Walker is a very talented storyteller. His development of characters is exceptional. His research of the topic is very extensive.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. The characters soon became my friends and I couldn’t wait to see their story play out. Red Mountain Burning was well done and thoroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend it and will look for future work from this author.
