A man follows random arrows from cover to cover. How can this be so interesting? Honestly, I didn't get any of it. And yet, I was taken through a fantastic journey nonetheless. The utter randomness of this silent comic is what makes it so intriguing. And not to mention, a visual delight. Give it a go!
Beautifully executed, wordless surreal graphic novel. The rare book I would recommend as working better electronically, as flipping from single-panel page to single-panel page gives a pleasing cinematic effect.
Is it a book about journey without treasure, or its a journey inside us, or its the story of a lifetime? To me, its a combination of all. A nice representation of graphic novel having no words, yet there is no problem to follow the story.
Saw this in a second hand book stall (at the Sarlat Saturday market). My French is limited, but the BD offerings are so huge in that language, I really should put in more effort to learn it properly… Anyway, the gentleman who ran the stall (grey braid, full beard, leather hat) lovingly showed me how to unfold the map-like section of the book. He then offered two more Mathieus, saying his drawing is always unusual. I agreed but the wordless book appealed to me the most. Bought it and leafed through, sat on a terrace in the sun. Thought it was clear and clever. Might be the vin du table that brings the word “magical” to mind. Nevertheless, an excellent souvenir.
Goodreads just told me this was not the first book I have read from this guy... And actually those graphics looked very familiar. Turns out I already read 3'' and was very impressed by it. And here we are, yet again, being impressed one more time by the excellency of this author/ artist.
This book is another wordless piece of art. It starts in a very Alice in Wonderland where this guy is looking through a lock that is the shape of an arrow and he then he gets inside this sickening world where everything is made of arrow - everything -. He is looking for something... it is so involving, I guess you can have as many interpretations as you would like, I would say he was quite desperate at some point, trying to find his way/ his path of life, I don't know. Yet again it is something very intriguing that makes you think. loved it.
