Templar's Light

Rate this book
A pilgrimage to the Holy Lands. A chance rescue on the road. The origins of the legendary Order of the Knights Templar...

Cristiana must accompany her father and her betrothed on a pilgrimage to the Holy Lands in order for her father to approve her marriage. A sudden attack by highwaymen outside of Jerusalem turns her world upside down. A gallant knight saves her, but also inadvertently does her great harm, and she cannot bring herself to be grateful for his service, no matter how handsome he is.

Terrowin accompanies his father and his lord, the Baron, to Jerusalem to save all their souls. Once there, they find things in the Holy Lands are not as tranquil as most of the world believes. After rescuing the lovely Cristiana, Terrowin finds he can't stop thinking of her, despite having promised himself to a girl back home in Gascony. Or about the situation on the road to Jerusalem.

Turks and other bandits stalk the roads, looking to rob, rape and slay the Christian pilgrims traveling toward the holy shrines. Though Christians control Jerusalem, Cristiana and Terrowin find themselves caught up in the logistics of a centuries-old religious war that still rages in the Outremer. What draws them together may tear them apart. Then again, what tears them apart may draw them irrevocably together.

Award-winning author K.L. Conger, author of the Kremlins trilogy, brings you the origins of the legendary Knights Templar and the romance that inspired them.

A Pilgrim’s Plight

While, of course, we know of the medieval pilgrimages from Europe to the Holy Land. We know a little, perhaps, about the Templar Knights. This book explores those days in the early 1100s when travel actually put the pilgrims in danger because of nefarious people who wanted their goods and often their lives.

The story starts in France, where we meet the heroine just after she has been proposed to buy a local lad who comes from minor though impoverished nobility. Her father is a man of faith who believes that his daughter will not be able to live out her Godly calling as a good Christian if she marries a man too much above their station. The father states that he will only bless the union if all three make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. He has been asked to help build a Cistercian cathedral there anyway; two birds with one stone.

The father, like most people in Europe, have no idea how dangerous such a pilgrimage is. The travelers are beset numerous times, with personal losses, and are witness to other atrocities. Along the way, the heroine meets another man for whom she soon develops an affection and care for. I won't go any further than this, but suffice to say this book is full of action, danger, and intrigue, more so than the typical historical romance. I felt like the book was a little over-written at times. I don't know if the author could have stuffed any more adjectives into the first couple of paragraphs. But I'm glad I got past that, as I did find this to be a gripping, compelling read. If you enjoy historical romances that look at eras and circumstances that aren't often seen, you may very well enjoy this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This is the 1st book I've read written by K.L. Conger; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the chemistry between the characters.

A wonderful story showing the dangers Christian 's suffered on their pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Cristiana and Guiscard have decided that they want to marry but the only way her father will agree is if they accompany him to Jerusalem so he may work with Monks to build a new cathedral. Torrowin and his father agree to accompany the Baron of Gascony on his pilgrimage to the Holy city so he may be forgiven his sins. Cristiana is a beautiful young woman but she has mixed up ideas of why she must marry a man that can protect her. She has already experienced horrible pain in her life and she wants to insure she never feels it again. Towinsin is the castellan's son, he has lived a somewhat sheltered life within the walls of the Baron's mansion. He cannot understand why the Baron who is a Christian thinks he must go to Jerusalem for his sins to be forgiven. As these pilgrims go on their journey they come across many different cultures and dangers. I found it very interesting to read about what it was like in this time in history. Even though the story is fiction, from the authors descriptions you can well imagine what the trail was like. I really enjoyed getting to know all the different characters and watching them develop into what God was calling them to be. We meet wonderful people along the road and at the hospitalle. There are also horrendous Saracens ,believers of Allah and the Muslim faith. They are patrolling as highwaymen and bandits hiding so they can kill and pillage travellers. There is so much action and suspense you are always wondering what will happen next. I also loved how the relationship between Cristiana and Torrowin developed and grew through their struggles and suffering. A wonderful story that I would enjoy to continue reading if the author has more. If you enjoy reading about this time in history or a beautiful love story I know you would like this book.
I was given a free copy of this book but I was not asked for anything in return. This review is totally my own opinion of this awesome book.

Awed by This Wonderful Book

This is my first experience reading this author and I was overwhelmed by Templar's Light. The story just leapt off the pages and I felt that I was actually there watching the events happen. I loved Cristiana as she worked through her fears and tragedies to become a stronger woman. The way she thought her life would work out was far different than she could have ever thought as she set off for her pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Terrowin is a gallant knight who isn't a knight but his life reflects the power and integrity of a Knight. His trip to the Holy Land will also take so much from him but offer him some things that he couldn't imagine.
I only wish that there was just a little bit more of the story ending. I would have liked an epilogue that took place some time after the close of the story to see what was happening.
I will definitely be looking for other books by this author.

This story is chuck full of action, danger and suspense within a setting of a medieval pilgrimage to the Holy Lands. Cristiana is with her father and betrothed and they are finding it is not an easy trip. The Turks along with others find robbing and slaying Christians a suitable outcome for these people who come to their land. It is the age-old battle between beliefs and the author has done a splendid job showing this. Terrowin is a good man who does what he feels is right. The characters are well developed in this outstandingly written work. It is a piece for all ages and one of the best I have read in a long time. This was a wonderful example of a brilliant writer. It really is a must-read and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This was an amazing telling of the Knights of Templar's beginnings. I loved how interwoven the historicity was with the fiction. They were integrated seemlessly. I never felt that the historical aspects were textbook-y, nor did the fiction overshadow the historical nature of this book. All of the characters were wonderful and well created and shown out. The storyline - both the historical one and the fiction alongside - was superb. A truly captivating Christian historical romance, and I look forward to what will come next - both in this series and from this author.

The Light is not overcome by darkness in this book about the Crusades. It is an exciting look at the formation of the Templar Knights and the hospitals that sprang up to help the pilgrims injured or killed by the highwaymen during this time period. What I liked best about the book is the strong faith of the people determined to help others.

I am on the advanced copy readers team of K. L. Conger for an honest review. I love this book. It seems like you can see a movie while reading the book It would make a great movie. The story is loaded with action, danger and suspense. It's a thriller of a romance. It's unputdownable, enjoyable and entertaining.

Character development is well done. Terrowin, who everyone thinks is a knight, is not. He is the protection for his father and his father's boss, who has been told that his sins will be forgiven if he makes a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. There have been attacks on Christians on their pilgrimages. Terrowin meets Cristiana on the trail and gets to know her more at the hospital run by monks and nuns, where people of all faiths are welcome free of charge. Malik is a ver evil man who you will meet, and de Payen and his men are wanting to protect Christians on the trail. It's haunting when you think about all of the Christians who have been killed because of their faith since the beginning of Christianity.

There's violence, but it's not graphic or gratuitous. The language is clean and the lovely romance is clean. The book would be suitable for ages of teens through senior adults .

Astounding! Very well written. Ms Conger has a great talent with words as evident in this book. Such rich history in the early 1100’s is inspiring. It includes a wonderful, slow burn, budding romance between Cristiana and Terrowin who have both lost family members to Moslem highwaymen who continue attacking Christian Pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem. Lots of action fighting the Moslem highwaymen who are wreaking havoc, killing and robbing the pilgrims on the road, each battle clearly described and easy to follow. There was heartfelt sadness and extreme grief as friends and loved ones were gravely injured or dying. Cristiana endeavors to overcome her grief by taking care of the injured in the hospital. Terrowin, also known by the pilgrims as Sir Knight, continues faithfully to seek out the evil leader of the highwaymen and put a stop to him.
We also learn a lesson in forgiveness and not judging unrighteously. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I literally could not stop flipping the pages until the end. A very satisfying ending and an enjoyable read, one that I would not hesitate to recommend.

Wow, this is an excellent book. Set in the early 12th century, the story begins with a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Travel is fraught with danger and horrific attacks by murderous men killing in the name of their god. It’s a compelling story set in the days after the crusades.

Despite the heartbreak, anguish and grief, a seed of love begins to grow in the midst of it all. The characters are complex, fighting their own inner turmoil, trying to find some direction amid the chaotic world surrounding them. The action is vividly portrayed and the scenes are rich with detail.

I received an advance copy from the author. This is my honest review. I highly recommend this book. My copy, however, needed some additional editing which I assume was done before its final release.

THE FIRST BOOK IN THE TEMPLAR ROMANCE SERIES TEMPLAR'S LIGHT TOOK ME BACK IN TIME. I REALLY HATED PUTTING IT DOWN TO WORK AND SLEEP. CHRISTIANA IS THE YOUNG FEMALE LEARNING ABOUT HERSELF AND GOD'S PURPOSE FOR HER. TERROWIN IS THE YOUNG MALE DOING THE SAME FOR HIMSELF. READ THEIR TALE OF GROWING AND LEARNING. A GREAT JOB FROM K. L.
