《牛郎织女》讲述了牛郎和织女的故事。牛郎父母早逝，家中嫂子对他百般刁难，最后牛郎只能离开家，与一头牛相依为命。天上的仙女织女来人间游玩，偶遇牛郎，两人日久生情，最后结成夫妻，生有一儿一女。可是，玉帝王母听闻此事，强行将织女带走了……
The series Graded Readers for Chinese Language Learners is composed of 50 books, divided into three subseries, namely folktales, literary stories and historical stories, corresponding to Levels 1-3 respectively. The rich and fun content and easy-to-understand language makes it easy for everyone, whether they are foreigners learning Chinese, children with parents of Chinese origin, ethnic minority students of the Chinese language, or even primary school students in China, to read this series. It enables the readers to gradually improve their Chinese reading skills and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture by reading and enjoying stories.
The “Folktales” subseries includes 10 stories, hence 10 books, adapted from folk legends, each book written in 20,000-30,000 Chinese characters. Like the other two graded readers I've read in this series, this book does a great job of telling an engaging story while also repeating vocab in a way that helps you learn. I found that this book has some good vocab related to farming (like the words for seed, plow, corn, etc), and it has the best character interactions that I've read so far in this series (the other two books I've read are this series' versions of 画上的美人 and 白蛇传). All of the characters have a distinct personality. While they weren't super fleshed out due to how short the story is, I still found myself caring about them and connecting with them!
