Honestly at this point John is the only character that keeps me reading the Adele Sharp series. She's not the greatest FBI agent; she doesn't have the inner spark like Riley Paige or Chloe Prime. Hopefully the character development for Adele Sharp will improve. Seems to be a running theme of each female character has parental issues: Riley Paige, Chloe Prime & Adele Sharp (mom's are deceased & father are antagonistic jerks whom may or may not mean well). However, I love Blake Pierce and I'll continue to read the series.
Maybe I should “read” the books, but I usually listen to the audiobook. The last hour of this book was almost excruciating. She’s supposed to be the best in the field, but always hesitates and second-guesses herself. The repetition of thoughts (literally repeating the same thing to herself within a matter of minutes) gets old. The narrator’s mispronunciation of words is annoying and is there an editor? The use of superfluous adjectives and overuse of descriptive wording is more distracting than adding to the storyline. I like the building of relationships, but sometimes she acts more like a petulant child around her father than the successful agent she is supposed to be. Oh, and let’s not forget she has triple-citizenship. It’s one thing to be mentioning it to others if the situation warrants it. It’s another to just keep mentioning it like the readers are going to forget.
But I’ll keep listening to the series. When the story gets good and there is suspense, I can almost overlook the annoying bits. Almost...
I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous to start this book… afraid Pierce would feed me the same story with different characters. I am so glad I was wrong. In the third installment, Agent Sharp takes to the Alps and investigates a murder while our other known characters, Robert and Jean Renee, investigate a crime in France. Pierce does a fantastic job pacing the reader through the investigation — producing false hope, new characters, and even older characters. It also comments on how money and media can brush just about anything under the rug or create false narratives.
I enjoyed the back story of Sharp’s memories throughout and her beginnings of momentum to solve the one case she needs solved — her mother’s murder. The slow burn with Jean Renee is there and painstakingly slow, but I love them. They’re a good team.
This story left me anxious and excited for the next one so I can see what happens next.

Blake Pierce writes thrillers with female agents (usually FBI, but also police, and Interpol) confronting serial killers. Left To Hide is number 3 in the Adele Sharp series, and it has the usual marks of Pierce's plot: agent can't solve crime, gets in trouble with boss(es), risks life and limb to catch killer, then tries to catch up with chaotic personal life (usually husband, father, mother). Adele Sharp is a little different in that she is trilingual and a citizen of the US, France, and Germany. She gets called in to solve multinational crimes. Pierce handles those settings fairly well, with a little suspension of disbelief... The character of Adele is well, sharp. I recommend the series as well, if you like fast-moving stories, solid writing, and variations on the plot I outlined. Very twisty and peculiar variations...
A Solid Read Adele Sharp is an interesting character in a novel full of interesting and complex characters. She's definitely not your run of the mill cop. Or person. Her professional life is fulfilling and fascinating as the FBI agent regularly acts a liaison with Interpol and the French or German police. Her personal life is...rocky, at best. It's hard to have it all.
Agent Sharp is surrounded by strong characters with lots of flaws. It suits her, since she's not without her own foibles. Between the complexity of the personalities and the intricate plot, this novel is a nicely written suspense thriller that manages to keep you guessing.
If you're new to this series, it is possible to read these books as stand-alones. But the best enjoyment will be had from starting at the beginning to get a better feel for the cast of characters.
I am loving the adventures of Detective Adele Sharp as she trots around the globe solving crimes. Though still shaken from the recent events in Paris, Adele must embark on a wild chase across Germany, uncovering lies and deception at every turn.
Adele and her father join forces to solve the crime, a chance for them to heal the rift between them. This installment is action-packed, thrilling, and gripping. You won't stop listening when you begin listening/reading.
This is the mystery of who is killing wealthy couples in the Alps. At one resort ⛵ in the Swiss Alps and Italian couple was bludgeoned to death but at first it was reported as a bear 🐻 attack. Then there's a couple the French are investigating a wealthy couple at another resort ⛵ the same type of attack when they finally found their bodies 😳. They called in Interpol specialist that works for the French DGSI, the German BKA and Adele from the FBI in good old USA the San Francisco branch. I loved this mystery and I definitely loved that her father and Robert and John are in this story.

Well written storyline. The mystery was well plotted and the characters multidimensional. There is an interesting dynamic between Adele and her father as well as Adele and John.
Wealthy patrons of exclusive ski resorts are going missing and found murdered and horribly mutilated. Adele and John race against the clock to find a killer whose murders are happening hundreds of miles apart.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Such a good series I like Adele and her dad a complicated relationship and I think her involving him was great. I hope they continue to progress. In this book some rich people died in the alps government wants to hush it up blame animals but Adele learns it is murder. So she recruits her dad to help. Also her ex shows up briefly.
I just never got caught up in the story. I did like the very end because it seems like is Adele may be getting her private life a little more sorted out - at least I hope so. I guess I'm getting sick of characters whose jobs are the beginning and end of everything in their lives when there are so many other things that should come first!
I always expect a great book with challenging clues from Blake Pierce and I wasn't disappointed! he has created a multi-faceted character with Adele Sharp who grabs the reader's heart and mind. I can't wait for the next book!
I'm still feeling meh about this series, though it is at least starting to interest me more in terms of the main character's relationship with her father. Maybe I just can't help comparing Adele Sharp to Riley Paige, who I've come to sympathize with.
I haven't read the 2 previous books and I wonder what I missed in character development. I am going to go back and read then now before I pursue the last 3 books in the series.
Enjoyed this third book in the Adele Sharp Mystery series. There are times when I want to yell at her to do/not do, or see this or that, but it's part of the story and I enjoy it overall; look forward seeing where the next mystery takes us.
AMAZING read as usual. I expected more romance between Adele and John but that can wait! I really liked the way Blake described the tension in the relationship Adele shared with her father. Waiting to read the other sequels!!!
This third book in the Adele Sharp series is full of twists and turns. We see more interaction with her father and John as well as a tense set of murders in multiple countries. Can’t wait for book 4. This is by far my favorite of his series.
La série d'Adèle Sharp, c'est du bonbon !!! On se demande si John et elle vivrons un truc ensemble. Mais surtout, les enquêtes sont bien ficelées... Pas de superflus, pas de description interminable.
Enjoyed it… didn’t LOOOVVVEEE it, but the story is good and ever progressing to that missing plot hole that we all want figured out. This time the villain was on the more disgusting side but all adventures with Adele can’t be pretty. Bring back the romance in the next book please!
I somehow find the characters in the Adele Sharp series boring and superficial. I can’t stand the fact that a grown woman stand someone calling her American Princess. Come on! The plot is lame and repetitive. It’s just not for me
After reading this part of the series, I feel they just keep getting better! The characters backgrounds are more familiar and the story lines are excellent!
