Madison McGurdy didn’t enter herself into the selection process to become mistress to a powerful Virilian male for the money. She did it to escape.
When your obsessed ex is one of the most ruthless men in the world and there’s no place on Earth to hide from him (because you’ve tried), going to a faraway planet sounds like an adventure and a chance for a fresh start. The program worked out well for women in the past, and it allows Madison to stay with the child she will produce. Maddy is intrigued by the gorgeous Virilian king she’s matched with. He is serious, obviously lonely, and she is strongly attracted to him, but there’s one problem: He wants nothing to do with her.
Well, that’s not exactly true.
Drex Letu, King of Exir City, is immediately and intensely attracted to the female chosen for him by the High Sage. However, he still mourns the loss of his mate who died from a devastating virus years earlier, and which killed most Virilian females. Now, his grim, solitary life is dedicated to serving his city and grieving those he lost. The beautiful, vivacious human who he is expected to produce offspring with, tempts him like no other, but there is no room in his life for what she offers. He plans to send her—and her infectious laugh—back to Earth on the next available transport.
But when Exir City is attacked and evacuated, Drex and Maddy are forced to cross the harsh Virilian desert alone to reach safety. Together, they must survive deadly ambushes from a shadowy enemy, face an attraction he is determined to deny, and come to terms with a dark, primal force that lies deep within the soul of every Virilian male.
This is book two of the Virilian Mail Order Mates series, but this story can be read alone with no cliffhangers and no cheating. I write what I love to read, so there is always consent and always a happy ending.
You have a powerful entrance and it’s just pushed by the wayside she has no emotional coming to terms with her past or any issue feeling for him. I just think it could have been better done
It was an alright story of you are looking for a quick read. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone though.
I thought her leaving was completely unnecessary. They all just left him there with out speaking to him. The brother saw him change right when he got out of the ship. It was the only DUH moment in the book. I wish they would have explained why they change as well.
Virilian Mail Order Mates is an alien romance series. Each book in this series comes filled with adventure as romance blooms between two individuals: an alien Varilian and a human woman. The Varilians are aliens from a far away galaxy. They are humanoid, but with natural dark circles around their eyes (looks like they’re wearing black eyeshadow), a dark blue tail with a sharp spiked end, a god-like muscular figure, and covered in tattoos. Whenever a Virilian’s home or loved one is threatened, they turn into a rare demon form that runs so hot it burns everything around them. They grow in size in this form, skin emitting a red color, with flaming eyes and horns. As would be expected, they typically scare their unprepared human mate whenever this form takes over. The Virilians are running low on women and children, caused by a mysterious virus (of course), so they turned to Earth and it’s biologically compatible females. Earth agreed to the Virilian’s need for women, allowing only 10 women at a time to be selected with each woman generously compensated for their participation. The female candidates are selected by a blind Virilian sage who can see the souls of the perfect matches. Once chosen, their journey begins.
Drex is book 2 in this series, and follows the Virilian King Drex Letu and his chosen human mate Madison McGurdy. Madison was not chosen as one of the 10 candidates, but Ferias (the blind sage) chose her as an additional 11th match for her nephew. Madison doesn’t care about the monetary reward she will claim, but is only after an escape from earth and the clutches of her powerful and controlling fiancé. Drex is the nephew of Ferias and the half brother of Trek, and was not the least bit interested in a mate. His wife and unborn child died at the hands of the virus 10 years prior, and he was insistent on living the rest of his life miserable, alone and in mourning. He never thought he could love again, even to the human his aunt chose for him. As predicted, she stays and the two grow close as time passes. Little by little, Drex lets go of his past life and falls in love with Madison. There was an adventure involving an attack on Drex’s kingdom that forced them to evacuate to the neighboring kingdom. Madison’s life wasn’t placed in danger, but there was fear that released Drex’s primitive form. After many bad decisions from Drex, Madison forgave easily and they all got their happily ever after.
The tension and buildup was balanced. The attraction was mutual and consent respected. The sexual encounters were erotic. The Virilian’s cocks didn’t vibrate or suck or do anything “alien like,” so to speak, but they were significantly larger than that of a human male’s. Yet somehow, each woman is able to take them like a champ. I still don’t know how women are able to “adapt” so well to giant cocks in all these alien romance novels. I personally had a lover with a well-equipped 10 inches at one point, and not once in our 2 years together did his cock ever get fully sheathed inside me. Is it just me? Are women’s vaginas drastically deeper than mine? I don’t get it. But I digress… it’s nice to fantasize about being “filled” again as I read these unrealistic love stories. If we ever do suffer a legit alien invasion, all us alien romance fanatics will be flocking to the spaceships with signs begging for abduction. Knowing my luck, it will be more like Independence Day and the aliens will be interested in destruction opposed to procreation. Damn it… I digress again…
Yes, this book (and possible series) is worth the read. I miss the first person format of my favorite authors, but this author has mastered the art of third person without removing her audience from the story. I will continue with this series. Onto the next book…

Honestly I so love reading Ella Blake's Virilian and Bayalin books,I like the women of earth meeting their mate's,these strange aliens from outer space,,these alien men with special abilities, and also when they do meet their true mate, the women to through their own biological processes, I've always believed in humans having the capabilities to do things that are beyond what some people would call normal. I guess that's why I love book's that deal with fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, magic ect. The world is yours in the writing world,to spin these are awe inspiring world 's that a person can get lost in. Ella Blake has certainly done that with her books, this story was great, wished it was longer, but as with anything good it had to come to a pause! I so looking forward to the next king!!!
Drex, 1/2 brother to Trak is King of the City of Erit. When the Meteor hit their planet it caused many of the female Virilians to become ill and die. His wife and unborn child were among the dead. Its been 10 Years but he still grieves for the loss.
His Aunt who is a Seer, chose a human bride for him against his wishes. Once he sees here he struggles with his attraction to her and his determination to never take a bride again.
The story flowed well, decent plot with action and intrigue.
This is a tender and sweet romance but not enough external conflict and chemistry to get past a 3 star. Plot; could have been set on earth and was really about the hero getting over the grief of losing first mate. Characters: like able but not particularly compelling. World building : not particularly strong/intense or interesting.
So this is a sweet romance that could have happened anywhere and any time.
Drex is the Virilian King still in mourning for his dead Queen and unborn child. Madison is a human desperate to leave Earth and start her life over. The Sage that matched them together knew they would be perfect for each other in spite of the king and his stubborn hold on the past. It was an easy read with action , likable characters and steamy scenes. I can hardly wait for the next book.
An alien who needed love to return to his heart,, the only woman who could give him what he so desperately needed. A love story for the ages. Brought together by a very wise old lady who knew what they both needed better than they did. It doesn't get any better than that. Oh that we as humans could all experience it in our lives.
This is the second book I've read by this author. Very good. World building is good and doesn't rely on book one. Madison does grow in this book from scared to sure of herself. Drex needs to get a handle on his grief in order to love again. Through a series of events love happens. See how this all came about.
I enjoyed the book even though Drex is a bit of a knucklehead and it took a while for them to get together . I loved that Trak and Anna was in the book. I look forward to the next book in the series .
Second book in the series I've read. I'm so glad that I found this series! As a avid reader of paranormal romance novels, this one has everything That I enjoy reading. Fast moving, humor, sexy hero's and feisty females.
Good story some action love isn't always clear. Rift is defined and clearly sheds light on the story. Great content and fresh story lines. Drex is fighting his feelings and stress applies a helpful hand can't lose reading this one
this one made me laugh out loud more than a few times! not every author can write a strong, yet not overbearing or obnoxious heroine, but ella blake does this beautifully! love seeing trak and anna agai also! on to book 3!
This story brings the return of Trak and Anna. They are joined by King Drex, Trak's half brother and Madison, Drex's mate and soon to be Queen. Another thrilling adventure.
Ella Blake’s writing style leaves one breathless! Her stories are concise, enjoyable, with vivid imagery and action. Drex and Madison’s adventure is great. Don’t miss reading it!
This series has everything I look for, action, and adventures, and romance with a happily ever after this author is another new favorite. I would love to read anything written by this author and I'm on the next book
I say that with a smile because of the primal way these Virilians flame out. Love Drex and Madison’s story. Love the way the first book weaves into the second. Great series!
I enjoyed this book and the continued storyline, I did not enjoy how the concept of loss of a spouse was managed. Like, he has been mourning 10 years and characteristics, personality, hope and dreams of his former spouse are never mentioned. He just... Magically moves on with the perfect mate and never has to think about her again?
I'm liking the twist on mating marks being this primal form piece. And having the aunt there as a friendship dynamic.
